1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you discover the BJD hobby?

Apr 8, 2011

1. Mistula. The resin rock band got underway in fall 2004. I discovered them in early 2005. The rest is history (I even finally brought home a Tsukasa and Jun, the dolls that started it all for me). Mistula is still active ... so am I.

2. Oh wow this is very interesting : ))) Thanks for sharing

3. Aw this is a touching story : ) glad you didn't give up in the end!

4. I am a major Art freak.
The majority of my high school classes are art.
And i am going to college for art.
AND... starting next year i will be attending PCAE, a art HIGHSCHOOL for juniors and seniors.
I will be living in a dorm on the campus.

SO...

Ive always liked Art, and i was just randomly looking on DeviantArt, and i had came across some doll. I thought. Woah its pretty. but weird a doll. But i went into search farther. I youtubed and searched it on Deviantart. Thats how it started. Then i showed my best friend them. She now wants one as well (: This all happened the very beginning of my Freshman year in high school.
I received the head of one of my dream ones ive wanted for awhile.
A LingFeng Doll Family SD (: <3

5. Oh I've wanted a LingFeng before I went and bought my MSD : )))
He's still on my wish list!

6. Hi! Thank you for starting this thread!

For me, I have collected dolls and stuffed animals all my life. My first were a set of twin dolls that my mom and aunt gifted me at birth. I still have them and my collection has grown to about seventeen garbage bags full and growing! I treat them as though they each have a life of their own and I have never thrown or sold any of them. I think I may be a little bit obsessed.

The first time I saw a ball-jointed doll was on deviantArt. I fell in love. I was also surprised that I had never heard of them before, since I loved dolls so much. I started researching on the web and trying to gather as much information about them as I could. I was even more surprised at myself when I realized their prices didn't intimidate me.

And thus is where I am, in the process of saving up for my very first ball-jointed doll.

7. I met my first doll on a convention last year. A beautiful boy with long, black hair, dressed in a adorable robe…I think it was a Furisode. Maybe just some seconds, not more than 3 or 4…but I thought about him for the rest of the day. Then I looked trough convention photos, hopefully to find him. I discovered him then (and that he was a BJD), that there was a litte meeting, searched for more pictures on dA and so on...and now I’m going to get my first boy <3

8. You NEVER know what the internet will unveil for you ; )
And I see you've picked Ducan as your first doll : ) He's a very neat sculpt!

9. I think I'm a bit older than the average collector (just turned 49) and was never into dolls, even as a kid, until I met my first Blythe doll about two years ago. A scrapbooking buddy brought one to a scrapbooking retreat and I was intrigued by the artistic possibilities of customizing Blythe dolls and using them as photography models so I bought my first one in September 2009. I then discovered BJD via Blythe collectors when they were turning up in Flickr photo streams and tagging along to Blythe meets. I bought my first BJD, a Lati White Pury, from the marketplace on Plastic Paradise (now Blythe Kingdom) about a year ago. Then I started poking around DoA, discovered Fairyland dolls, sold the Lati, bought a Realpuki army and a Pukifee!

10. Heh, yes it seems that if you're into Blythe you're bound to bump into BJDs sooner or later : )

11. I came to it by Blythe as well. I was looking at Superjunks Flickr saw Pong Pong and it was all downhill from there for my wallet anyway :) My obsession has drawn my husband in as well he just ordered an Ent from Leeke.

12. How wonderful to be able to share it with a spouse : )

13. I got in this hobby because I have been in Anime since 2006. The anime magazine in my country had an article about BJD's. But I really fell in love with BJD's when I saw some really beautiful dolfies on anime cons and fantasy fairs. :)

14. It definitely is. :) Even though no one else we know had even heard about them, they keep it from being lonely. One of the best parts, though, is that I get to play with dolls that I didn't have to buy myself. They're not mine, but having them in my house is good enough for me... Sorry for getting a bit off-topic. ^_^;

15. Well, I always liked this style dolls, but really I did not know what they were or where to find them ... I bought a small purse that has a photo of a blonde bjd. I love it. A few months ago I met in person to a friend who has a Dollzone Luke ... and I fell into temptation. I checked into bjdoll to inform me of everything I needed, I saw all the shops and finally I fell in love. My first one soon will be in my hands!!

16. That's wonderful! Happy for you : )

17. Hehe yes I sure did! He is very gorgeous.
I've noticed a lot of people who have the Ducan started with him first.
Surely that's a good sign! ^ ^"

And by the way, congratulations on your first doll!

18. Most appreciated : ) Even though I'm still to get him : )

19. Haha, well waiting on arrival is still better than waiting to order. Which is where I stand.

And I think it's great *and super cute* that you and your best friend are getting your first dolls as twins.
My best friend also wants a BJD. He wants to cosplay one as one of the Rozen Maidens, though has no plans of doing that anytime soon because of how expensive they are. Sad news for me. I would love to have a friend who is also into the hobby.

20. Awww : ( But maybe she'll decide to get one in the future? : )
