1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you purchase your first BJD?

Nov 10, 2013

    1. I luckily had some money squared away and paid for mine in full as a Christmas present to myself. :3

    2. I bought a CP Delf Lishe in BW Resin after she was released and before Luts had a website! I bought her through a dealer who I had to contact via email to arrange the purchase and then I paid via bank wire! It was an arduous process but well worth it for my first BJD :) That was sooooo long ago now! I also purchased my second BJD who was a CP Delf Shiwoo in BW using the same method. I must have been a glutton for punishment, well, no just desperate to get dolls!

    3. My very first doll (Dollzone Demi in my avatar), came from the Junkyspot ^-^. I liked that they had dolls in stock and the wait time and shipping costs were much lower than buying from overseas.

    4. I'm sure I'm going to be showing my age, but I purchased my first doll at the end of the summer of 2005. I was 15 working my very first job and I had never seen so much money before (which looking back is so funny, because they weren't even paying me minimum wage and I was getting paid under the table as a "volunteer", but anyway). I had spent the previous two years staring at resin dolls from Asia and knew exactly what I was spending my first fat paycheck on. I ordered a LUTS CP Angel Elf Soo directly from the company with a wig and extra set of eyes, no face-up. She arrived a week later via EMS and I was hooked.

*Ahem* but anyway, I saved up a month's worth of paychecks (because I didn't have bills or anything I was spending money on, otherwise) and paid my doll off from there. Most of my dolls were purchased during times where all of my income was disposable, so saving was just a matter of waiting two or (or three for Hound) paychecks in a row. Now I have a credit card, so we'll see how doll shopping happens now.

    5. Shockingly I got my girl from ebay, which is risky..not gonna lie. I am starting collage soon and know I won't be able to afford much after my work hours get cut. I had a free check at the end of the month and had been stalking this doll for weeks. I wouldn't get my check soon enough so I asked my step dad to pay for her until I got paid...I got lucky. When she got home I was beyond the point of happy with her, sadly I was about to kick the mail man's bum.. Long story short....I took a risk and ended up with my amazing girl.

    6. I had owned a resin head on an Obitsu body in the past, and after four years of research, I set a goal for myself to have a BJD ordered by the end of that year, preferably as soon as possible. As an unemployed highschool student, I did a lot of odd jobs that summer, mostly washing cars and raking leaves, and by autumn was able to order him. Granted he was a cheap Bobobie, but anything priced much higher would have been rejected by the family. Needless to say he taught me a lot, even though I eventually rehomed him.

    7. I started saving up, and my cousin helped me look for a lower priced doll for under $200. At first I was kind of fond of Bobobies Priscilla, who was in my price range. While saving up for her, I did research watching other box openings, and came across Iplehouse. From their site I found the limited Elemental Guardian Isar just in time. She was almost everything I wanted, just so pricey (I didn't have enough to even buy Priscilla yet)! My husband noticed how elated I was for finding Isar (I think my screaming "SHE'S THE ONE" helped), and he told me that I should get her!!!! He helped me purchase my first doll as part of a gift from him. Turned out others in the family, and also friends helped put money towards her. She was part saved money, and part gift. After buying a few more dolls with owing allowance money, I bet my husband sort of regrets being a part of starting me in this hobby! Heh xP

    8. I bought my first BJD from Finnish internetauction site huuto.net. I had been looking for the "one" doll for a while and there she was.

    9. I saved for two years straight, puting money aside and finally when i had enough it took me 5 months to actually work up the nerve to buy her. My boyfriend made me because he knew hoow happy i would be to buy her so i did and now i dont regret it one bit!

    10. Impulse buy... I should be saving for other things... I am not very good at saving, however I excel at spending..

    11. I saved up to buy my first BJD. She was $315 with shipping. I love her so much and I'm hoping I can keep the love for her forever since she's my first doll :o

    12. I bought Laika as a floating head from a dealer, originally intending to buy a cheaper body from another company. I saved up for at least a year, and ended up relying a lot on gift money from birthdays and xmas. Then, for whatever reason (I can't remember, but I'm glad it worked out that way) I decided to save for the more expensive double jointed body from the company I got the head from. That I also purchased from the same dealer, and it was the first time ever that I saved (and spent) that much money. I had my parents add funds to my debit card (I was 14 or 15 so I didn't manage my own finances mostly) and I placed both orders on the Mint on Card website.

    13. I used the the saved money for my other hobby, which is anime figures, and made immediate payments on RingDoll's official website. Of course I had to slow down my other hobby for this, deleted a bunch of figures from my "to buy" list for my upcoming dolls >.<

    14. It's amazing to read how everyone worked so hard to save up and get that doll !!! <3
Personnally, I was directed to Resinsoul as one of the more affordable sites to buy from, and also told that shipping with them was faster than most. So I went on the site, and fell in love with the Mei sculpt. So the doll itself wasn't the most expensive, but I also spent a bunch of money on accessories and clothes, so that she would be ready to take pictures and do things as soon as she'd get home. I also got her a basic company faceup for the same reason.

    15. I'm still waiting for my first BJD. She is Kaye Wiggs Gracie which will be here in July. (MSD Size) I looked at the pre order and completed all the payment information. When I saw the final price I couldn't click 'buy'. Several days......I kept going back over and over until I finally was able to click BUY. Because I do not have my doll in hand, there are days I wished I had not purchased her. No hair, no choice of eyes. No outfit, no shoes. I've been buying 'stuff' in anticipation of her arrival which has been about another $200. Then when I see photos of Gracie (will be named Meadow), I get happy once again. I am wishing my life away marking off the days until July. All total.....about $800 with doll and accessories so far. OUCH!!

    16. My first doll was pretty inexpensive, and a spur-of-the-moment buy it now listing on ebay (a secondhand PKF Luna with company faceup). I had just gotten paid a nicely sized paycheck so I didn't have to save for her, which was nice. I've since saved for my other dolls.

    17. Saved up while I was researching different sculpts. Took me almost a year to save up since I was originally planning to buy a Volks. Then I saw the DoD website and fell in love with their sculpts and found they were cheaper. I got both the DoT E-An heads with one body and a DoC Petsha which is now one of my favorite. :)

    18. It was a gift from my husband.

    19. I'm too agree with you words, the important is you really want that

    20. I didn't save up as it wasn't really planned, I'm unemployed and had no intention of getting a bjd until I had a job. Then the doll I wanted was being discontinued so I made a snap decision. I went through a dealer so at least I know the amount I paid is all I'll have to pay, no surprise duty tax or anything. The money I used was given to me for gifts anyway, so it's not like I was using money that should have been going anywhere else, but it's still a lot to spend on a doll when you don't have a stable income. Oops.
