1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you purchase your first BJD?

Nov 10, 2013

    1. My first was a gift from my husband. I did a lot of research on sculpts and looked at tons of pictures, I thought I would try msd size since they don't take up much space. I fell in love with fairyland and now I have 2 with one on the way.

    2. I just go a job i take my first money and i say Im going to buy her!
But then oh no i love that sculpt i must to have her!
I can't wait for my grail to be in sales or in the re-order of the company so i will take her instead! :D

    3. My first resin BJD is just a head currently, because I was originally saving up for a yoSD but when I saw her adorable face for sale I just couldn't pass her up for the life of me. Right now I'm trying to save up for some other things, but soon I'll start the long, long journey to getting her her body and clothes, hehe. I can't wait, she's going to be beautiful!

    4. I ordered both of my boy via dealer, and one of them payment with layaway~
I am planning to save my 3rd boy for ASAP~

    5. After i got my summer time job i bought my first doll, i paid everything the same day off form Fairyland June 2014. And i did still have money left, that's something you should look out for before buying those dolls. ;)

Just make sure you do your research before you just jump right in to it, i made sure to look at different company's, owners pictures and reviews of the dolls. That's how i did it! :)

    6. It sorta just.. happened. I mean I'd been saving up money for a long time but not for anything specific. So then all of a sudden I saw the chance to fulfil one of my dreams; owning an SD BJD. So yeah, although it was rushed it had always been a sorta long term wish that came true on a whim ^^'

    7. I did layaway for my first. It was a pretty penny and each payment made me squeamish but after my dolls arrived to me I had no regrets

    8. Welp, I saved up lots of money by selling some of my old dolls and bought my first bjd right away through paypal! No layaway!

    9. wow me too i have the head now but i have to wait for her body for the same reasons!
Im sure our dolls will look Grate!

    10. I was in the process of slowly saving up when I received a (not tax season related) refund check. I used that check to bolster my savings and purchase the doll I wanted without credit or layaway.

    11. I was working and then a doll I wanted was about to be discontinued (Dollshe Bernard) I had enough to safely cover the first layaway payment and then I paid him off over three months.

    12. I planned to save up and pay in full for my PongPong2 because he was in stock and I didn't want to have to owe anything on a deadline. Then everything changed when the Fairyland event attacked. I wanted a tan MNF Celine as my next BJD after my Pong and since I didn't know the next time they would have a tan event, I bought both and you them on layaway. It's been pretty nice actually. Not as stressful as I imagined. And I'll get an event head as an extra so that's a plus!

    13. At the time I was a student and only working in a casual job so I wasn't earning much money. I saved up bit by bit until I finally had enough to buy my first doll. :)

Now that I work full time I could afford to buy a lot more, but I still only have my 3 dolls because I continue to make myself save up slowly for each one at a time. Partially because I don't want to go overboard and by too many, haha.

    14. It just happened that I've been saving money for some time to treat myself with smth unusual, smth special when I came across BJDs for the first time and it was a split-second decision that I'm getting one.As for my second BJD girl it took me very short period of time to save money ,that's how much I wanted her :) And I'm saving again for my next BJD :dance But I agree with kokocho ,it's better not to go overboard:dohThat's why I create speed-bumps for myself ,I do take my time to choose a doll...

    15. i set aside a certain amount of money each week and didn't touch it, i manages to save it all up in 2 months and my first bjd is on her way 2 me :)

    16. I bought my first back in 06 from dolls and friends in Bellevue. It was a local doll shop that carried BJD.... Went in, saw her (an angel region Dana) and after visiting several times, I put her on layaway. While I don't own her anymore, I was greatful to have been able to purchase my first bjd in person. Sadly, dolls and friends is no longer a brick and mortar store, they had intended on continuing online sales I believe, but I don't know whatever came of them. Good memories though.

    17. I first heard about bjds from a friend in The Sims game forums. She had seen the dolls on Deviant Art and she designed her characters in the game to look like dolls. I was curious and when I saw the ones on DA I was stunned at how beautiful they were.

I had collected Barbies for many years, but got bored with them and sold them all. I admired bjds for 2 or 3 years before I bought one. It was a Resinsoul Mei. I was disappointed because she was not as beautiful as dolls I'd seen on DA. A few months later I saw 5 Star Doll's Tumnus and fell in love. I got him during a summer event and he arrived 2 days before my birthday In September. He is still my favorite doll, and I love him to bits.

    18. Junkyspot! I paid the whole thing in full because I had a paycheck :)

    19. I had a strange experience. I starting lusting after bjds as early as age 13. It was something that I always had in my mind, but never had the money to buy one (being an unemployed teen). When I went to college, I started making money year round in part time and research jobs. I am very lucky; I got a full ride and didn't have to take student loans and I also had very few expenses, so I suddenly had a lot of spending cash.

I felt very bad spending so much money on a bjd even though I had more than enough funds, because I worried that I should save all of it; I thought about needing it to buy a car, rent, etc after I graduated. Also I was afraid to experience buyer's remorse, since bjds are so expensive and I am by no means a wealthy person; we're talking about 5% of all of my total money for a SD size bjd, which is very significant.

Then, my school started this bitcoin initiative where it gave every undergrad student the equivalent of $100 in bitcoin. The point of the project was in part to stimulate the bitcoin economy and also to research what students did with it-- did they liquidate immediately, invest it, what did they spend it on, etc. My friend gave me all of his because "I don't want it" which was strange to me, but after a lot of reassurances I accepted. Now I had $200 worth of bitcoin for free. For some reason I felt much more comfortable spending this money because it was a gift from my university, not money that I had worked very hard for and felt should be saved for important purchases.

So basically my university's bitcoin initiative paid for my first bjd.
