1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you purchase your first BJD?

Nov 10, 2013

    1. I do the books for my husband's business for free every year, and reward myself with a gift. It is a lot of work so I don't feel too guilty about getting a reward. I'm a collector of bears, so for many years I would get a bear or two. I'm new to this hobby and got interested in November, so this year I got a doll instead of a bear. I used a credit card and then paid when it came due. I bought from the company in South Korea and was happy that there was no duty or taxes. I will most likely buy another doll this year but will have to wait until the fall.

    2. Secondhand market in Korea :)

    3. I was at high school when I thought about getting my first doll. So I saved up and several months later my dream finally came true. Now I have a job, so it becomes much easier to save for a doll.

    4. I saved up for a pretty long time but it was worth it. I got mine from Alice's Collections and the company was SoulDoll. Hope your dolly comes safe and fast into your house :kitty2:)

    5. I have my first doll on a 6 month lawaway right now! I'm very excited! :)

    6. I got really excited over an event doll that was ending in a couple months, so I picked up odd jobs everywhere from my parents and neighbors and friends and saved up all the money myself. I go to school so I still cant save up anything to get any more things for them or certainly another doll, but I love the ones I have, and I know I'll be able to save up for them soon when I'm out and have a job~

    7. I found a doll I really liked on Flickr. Then I googled the artist and emailed her asking about the availability. I ended up paying for it with my tax return money :)

    8. I had money left from my Christmas gratification. So I decide to order my first Doll as a birthday present for myself :) ....

    9. Directly from the company - I used Paypal to put her on layaway. After ten days I couldn't stand the thought of waiting any longer so I paid her off and she arrived last Friday!

    10. I bought my first doll through the junky spot, I paid through paypal. I had been shopping around for over a year to find just the right doll to invest in it seems no matter what company you get your first doll from it's quite an investment.

    11. My first doll was Mystic Kids Lillian who I wanted to get secondhand but the seller was too busy to reply xD she was in stock on acbjd and there was a dealer in Kuwait who bought her for me after I paid in cash to her. Haha the trip to the dealers house was one heck of a trip, but it got through in the end and I had her after a few weeks ^_^

    12. I ordered a new doll from Denver doll, but am also impatient, so I bought a used one off of eBay so I could practice making clothes and doing faceups :P Excited for my new one to arrive, eventually...

    13. I bought my first doll from acbjd, using Paypal to pay in full. When the wait (which really wasn't long...less than 3 months) drove me crazy, I bought my second doll from DDE, who had her in stock. I paid through Paypal for her, as well.

The first doll arrived home 1 day before the second doll. That was a fun week. :3nodding:

    14. First doll I purchased was with a credit card on layaway. First doll that arrived in my hands was a pre loved doll paid through PayPal in full. :)

    15. Oh my story is... complicated :D
I'm a person who just kind of hates not getting what I want so... Last autumn I discovered Iplehouse. It was still the event for Carved Heritage and I instantly fell in love with Scarlet. But at the time I was moving out and didn't have time to think about the doll. Although after I moved in to my new place I started thinking about it again... And got teeny tiny bit... obsessed. I was like sick, I dreamed about dolls, it was pretty crazy. And with the holidays it was just too much. But I had a little plan brewing. I had money from my parents to buy kitchen cupboards (since I didn't have any) and I also had saved up some money + my boyfriend had some money he wanted to give me for furniture. And this was enough for me to buy the doll. And he agreed to work overtime for 2 months, so we can return the money for the furniture. I also saved up 50% of my money for that time and we somehow made it. I swear I won't do this again, ever. Next time I will just save up little by little. :) But it's not that hard now that I have my first doll, I'm happy with my choice.

    16. It took a long time for me to purchase my first doll. I've been working hard to save my money. Back then, I didn't have specific doll that I want to buy, I just know that I want to purchase a doll. When I think that I had enough money, I picked a doll and then pay via paypal in full. Since I had enough saving so I didn't do layaway. My country currency to USD is really crazy so I thought if I do layaway, the price may be way more expensive.

    17. Many years back, I was a poor student who didn't have my own card/paypal account. So I saved up and bought my boy second-hand from another owner from the same country. Old-school bank transfer was the way haha!

    18. A friend from a Bjd group here in our country helped me do layaway for my first doll... Im really thankfull she helped me, Im still paying for my first doll by the way

    19. After being a full time worker for a year, I ordered my first bjd through paypal :XD:

    20. My parents actually bought my first doll for me, and I just worked really hard in school! I'm saving up little by little for my grail, though. -3-
