1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you purchase your first BJD?

Nov 10, 2013

    1. I saved up most of the money and borrowed the rest from my fiance, I paid in full using Paypal and ordered through Angelesque. I paid my fiance back over a few months.

    2. I paid all at once (except the blushing/face-up commission from Pink Hazard, which i'm paying soon when it's done), but my boyfriend is giving me half the cost as my birthday/Yule present. I'm getting a free head with her so am hoping to use Yule money from my family to buy it a body. ^^ Now my main torture is whether or not i should get something to practise the modding i want to do for that body on.. I have money, and just started a new job. But my job is only just over 12hours a week atm and as i'll be 22 next year i feel like i should be starting to save up for a future house &/or the trip to Japan i've been dreaming of.

    3. I had the income for him, so I paid outright and directly from the company. He wasn't at the top of the spendy list either. I'm also a working person so I think that makes some difference too. I could have done layaway which I think is a great option to break out payments but for my first doll, I didn't want to add on the additional wait time.;)

    4. I was originally saving up for a $530 doll, and to do so, I asked friends/family for my birthday and Christmas (I was 15 at the time) and I saved any other money that I could find. Unfortunately, by the end of the year, I only had around $300. My mom said she would pay for the shipping as an additional gift, since it is so expensive. I couldn't wait any longer, knowing how long it took for the doll to get made and shipped anyway. So I caved and bought one of the cheaper dolls on my list. Even though it wasn't my first choice, I was still really happy with him. I still have him today, exactly the way he came.

    5. The doll I wanted wasn't for sale so I saved up until she FINALLY popped up for sale on Yahoo! Japan ^-^
      I paid one lump sum.

    6. I used a credit card. I had plans of buying my first doll with part of our tax return, but then a limited one came along and I decided to get her instead, so out came the plastic.

I no longer have credit cards (yay!), so now when I do want a doll, it is either save up or layaway. :)

    7. I saved up all of my money and then bought her through paypal :) I don't have a job, so saving up the money took me a really long time, but I think all of the waiting and saving makes me feel even closer to my doll, if that makes sense.

    8. I bought my first bjd from ebay, and I used my Tax Return. 8D I also used more money from that same tax return to buy my second bjd!

    9. I was lucky enough that I had the money and I just randomly bought my first doll. It wasn't a very expensive doll. He was a B&G Sky.
But my friend and me talked it over and decided we finally wanted to actually buy a doll, so one night, when I stayed at her place, we bought them.
Since then I've bought a bit more expensive dolls and I've mostly used layaway. Layaway has worked great for me, but I understand why some people don't feel comfortable with it.

    10. Got birthday money and ordered him straight form the Resinsoul site ^^ Then did the same with my girl a month later...

    11. Credit card directly from the company. Layaway was an option, but I would rather pay with a CC that has fraud protection then use paypal in payments and go beyond the claim period. I was just so nervous about it. I'd be fine paying layaway now with a reputable company ^^

    12. I paid in full for my girls one came from ebay my guy came from the market place here. But i did save for a month on all of my kidos.

    13. I guess you could say I saved up since I waited until I had enough money in the bank to pay. But since I bought directly from Luts I had to pay with a credit card (I think...could have been PayPal, but I paid that off with a credit card anyway). I don't generally do things like layaway -- I don't think any of the companies I have bought from offer layaway anyway, but even if they did I feel like using layaway would be dangerous for me because it might encourage me to buy a doll when I can't really afford it.

    14. my friend helped me to buy my first doll from Lati yellow... ^^..cos i still confused at that time about bjd..

    15. I didn't save up for my first one, It was kind of sudden. A friend of mine on Youtube was selling a pukifee Luna and I was like ahhh

    16. I bought my first doll second hand and it was pretty cheap, even at the company (Fantasy doll). I used my student finance xD And have done so for all my dolls. I have never done layaway and I won't never use credit card. I get enough student loan to pay bills, buy food, live and buy a doll or two every semester. So I'm happy. 4 of my 5 dolls are second hand and I do prefer it because waiting for a doll is awful! Lol :P

    17. I saw my first BJD in 2000 but I just couldn't justify owning BJDs at the time - I had recently moved to a new city and was looking for a better job. Once I was more financially stable, I found the doll that tipped me over into buying one. I sold off all of my other 1/6 fashion dolls, some of my action figures, about half of my manga and anime collection and used that money to buy my first doll second hand.

    18. I knew of BJDS since around 2000-2001, but could never get one back then. I was still in school for one and well, until I finished College I couldn't really justify affording one because it would all be me. No help from a loved one in purchasing the doll. Sucked because I consider people who have a loved one help so lucky XD. I got a card though and used it on a doll. Now I use paypal if I can for layaways only.

    19. I really wanted the SD17 Ryoma, but at the time I was prioritising my money on other things. And then Volks announced a second chance at owning him. I thought this must be a sign to finally own a bjd and I entered the lottery. Miraculously, I won. And now I'm just waiting until Volks ships him to me.

    20. Since I had been looking for the 'right' doll for quite awhile, I saved up. I then used my credit card to buy my Fairyland Minifee and then I paid off my credit card with the money that I saved up.
