1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you purchase your first BJD?

Nov 10, 2013

    1. My father paid half and I paid the other half using money I had gotten for my birthday.

    2. I had taken extra work to be able to afford the doll sooner than originally. I ordered the doll directly on Dream of Doll's website and paid it with the money I had made from extra shifts. My parents were excited about it, so I remember them standing by my side, looking as excited as I was and when we paid we started the terrifying wait time for it to arrive.

    3. I purchased my doll using layaway as I was still in school when I got her so didn't have the money to pay for her all in one go.

    4. I saved up for a 1000$ fullset doll, but I fell in love with a secondhand doll on instagram that was a fraction of the price, so I was able to afford him all in one go!

    5. My first ever BJD was a birthday present, the second BJD I saved all my excess money for.

    6. Natsume is a Christmas gift from my grandparents, I ordered him with their credit card and when he arrived, he went under the Christmas tree.

    7. I was saving up to go to the UK and then the dollar exchange rate fell really bad to the pound. Waited for a year to see what would happen to the markets which wasn't in my favor. My best friend showed me this hobby brought a minimee sculpt from DIM and then that wasn't enough. Brought a couple of bjds and a whole bunch of final fantasy VII statues.

    8. I bought my first doll in a fit of hypomania and insomnia with the help of PayPal buyer credit :doh Never have I regretted that decision, though.

    9. My friend who was in the hobby found me a second hand doll that was exactly what I was looking for. She actually paid for it, and I just finished paying her back. I'm still making installments for another doll we went in for together for another friend >>. Doll finances can get confusing really fast when lots of people are involved....

    10. I bought my first doll with "virtual money"... meaning the money I had accumulated during a couple of years, selling pixels on Second Life marketplace :D Ended up getting "twins" as the first doll was an accidentally sent out miscast, and company simply produced a new one for me, and I got to keep both. Why not... I'm a Gemini, and always buy things in pairs...

    11. I had saved some money, so when i found the doll i wanted as my first i bought her all at once with Paypal

    12. My true 1st was given to me, but I didn't bond with him so after a long while I sold him. So my 2nd 1st one lol I saw in a magazine & I couldn't get my credit card out fast enough!!

    13. I bought her as a impulse buy because I really wanted a bjd at the time. Sadly, the string in her legs snapped and she has no faceup, so I haven't not bonded :c I've been thinking of selling her to get the bjds I really want

    14. Saved up a few months with a promise to save up while she's on her way. Alice Collections BJD, They only have paypal

    15. First one I bought was through DA in FB.

    16. I certainly don't recommend it because it really can put you in a hole but I purchased my first doll with my charge card.
Remember, if you use a charge card, you end up paying more for the doll. Of course if I had to do it all over, I probably would do the same!

    17. For my first doll I lent money from my sister and second was bought partialy by me and some lent money from sister
      I paid via paypal

    18. I did a layaway with iplehouse to get my first one

    19. I bought my first doll from another owner. Though it is a second hand head, I still love him so much!!

    20. I saved some of the money for my doll using the income from my hobby business (about $150) and then made the rest ($120-ish) up out of the money I make from working! So really, it was all saving up in one way or another, but in different ways! I have a few more expensive dolls on my wish-list, so I'm thinking I might layaway those when it comes to it; that's if I can't just save up for it! :)
