1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you purchase your first BJD?

Nov 10, 2013

    1. This was around 2006-2008 ish but I vaguely remember it, I was a teenager and getting help from a friend back then. She already had her first doll which was a Delf dark elf soo, so she suggested that we searched on Eluts together for one. I was super captivated by their Soony and I eventually got her. She helped me go through the steps of paying but with my own account. I sadly don´t remember how she arrived or my experience with the box opening. I do remember the custom fee/taxes and other stupid fees I had to pay in order to get my package.

    2. I started working at PetSmart and saved up by not eating out and staying home!

    3. I spent most of my tax refund for that year.

In terms of where, I bought my Lucrezia and Lukas's head straight from Soom.

    4. Part of my money were given as birthday gifts, just a bit was saved-up intentionally, some was borrowed. I normally wouldn't borrow money to buy a doll but that was a Dollshe event after which the doll I needed was going to be discontinued (I didn't know about all those Dollshe tricks back then and fell for it, lol! And I hadn't thought about layway option either, I don't even know why.)
As for buying process, I knew absolutely nothing about online shopping and PayPal back then so I desperately needed help. I wrote on a local forum and one good person from my city was very kind to help me with my order :3

    5. I was a freshman in high school babysitting here and there. I had some money but I decided for my birthday I was going to save and get an in-stock littlefee from DDE, so I asked for birthday money and managed to get her a wig too! Thank god she didn’t come with red acrylic eyes like I had seen some people get back then!

    6. Brought it via dollpeddlar on my first lati
But my “second” one that is 2nd hand arrived first

    7. I won an used Obitsu 50 doll (no neck joint) from a Yahoo Japan auction. At first, I was worried I made a huge mistake bidding on her and tried to cancel AFTER I won. (This was the first auction I have ever won. I got sniped on a previous one.)

However, I moved too slowly and couldn’t cancel my purchase, as it had already been shipped out from the seller to my proxy’s warehouse distribution center. So when it was ready to ship, I chose FedEx International Priority instead of the cheapest shipping option, surface shipping. I chose surface shipping for an Obitsu 60 doll I bought back in December and still haven’t got her yet. Don’t choose surface shipping! Don’t do it!

Finally, my auction win arrived on January 20th tightly wrapped and intact. I took my Obitsu 50 out of the box and couldn’t put her down! My buyer’s remorse melted away as soon as I held her in my arms. She looked creepy without a head, though.

I ordered a new neck joint after I won, but it took longer than expected to be sent out to FJ’s (From Japan) distribution center. I had a hand-painted head ready (originally for the undelivered OB60 body) and struggled for hours installing the neck joint inside the head so she could “wear” it.

My profile picture is of Meigana, my first auction win wearing Parabox’s long pink wig. Meigana is now wearing Parabox’s white girly short wig. OB60 will wear the long pink wig when she arrives.

    8. Dang, I just read your post as soon as I finished my post! It’s the same situation with me (kind of). The doll I bought/won in mid to late January arrived first. I still haven’t received the first doll I bought in December..

    9. My first doll was an Obitsu tiny but the first resin doll was a bobobie Ariel! I was just 10 and my older sister was buying her first doll and introduced me to them. I saved for her by doing chores :kitty1 The Junky Spot was big back then and really helpful to me.

    10. Honestly? I saw someone on Instagram in the hobby (can’t say her name for reasons). And then decided I want one. But then I realized how do I find someone to custom make my dolls 6 & 7. So shockingly I went to Reddit and boom! A very sweet kind lady messaged me. She agreed to make my doll and at first I was skeptical like “if I get scammed it’s my own fault..” (so be careful with what I did. I was stupid for doing that in my opinion but I was lucky she wasn’t a scammer). My dolls are being created as we speak. It does cost more to have them made than to outright buy them for labor cost but it was worth it honestly. I got to determine their body size. Face look, height, I basically have my dream twins being made. It also says the hassle of certain dolls being on back order or waiting months for them. The only real hassle I’ve had with my dolls being made is because I have them made super curvy with a small waist and huge butt and thighs I can’t buy sets.... I have to buy yosd tops and like msd bottoms.

    11. I had gotten interested in BJDs and was saving up for a totally different (cheaper) doll when my favorite/grail head hit the secondhand market and I couldn't help myself but swoop in and use pretty much all the money, which I'd saved so far for a full doll, for just a head lol. She spent several long months sitting creepily/cutely in a teacup on my desk while I saved up for a body that I bought secondhand from a friend who was leaving the hobby.

    12. I'm going to use my income tax return

    13. My first BJD was actually a birthday present from my partner. He is an Myou Alan, and is pretty cheap as far as BJD’s go. (About $200) so I didn’t feel that bad asking for him haha. Anyways I got really lucky, I love my doll :love

    14. I got my first back on 2008. I fell in love with them after my friend came to visit for the summer and brought hers with her. She convinced me to get one and helped me pick one out on the JunkySpot. I already had some extra money set aside so I bought one that night.

    15. Forgot to say he was bought from Dolk.
