1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you purchase your first BJD?

Nov 10, 2013

    1. First DD - Volks USA, all nice and normal.

First resin - Dollmore, all nice and normal.

I didn't buy any of them third party or second hand or anything like that.

    2. First doll and 90% of the rest of the dolls were all on line purchases so all paid with CC
Only did layaway for Soom since they were taking 3-4 months to ship out a doll during their oeak years so I did not feel like paying so quickly for a doll that they would not ship for 4 months

    3. My first was Iplehouse Bianca Addiction, just fell in love with her. It took me a while to figure out the buying process and I wanted to lay her away but accidentally put the whole amount on my credit card at once. LOL When I ordered Lisa, I had the layaway process figured out. I really need layaway to buy dolls.

    4. My first doll, I buy from ebay as second hand and pay by paypal. Because they're my first doll, I'm excite and can't wait long.

    5. My first doll was bought with my tax return that year XD
But in order to blow most\all of my tax return I had to get to a place where I could afford to do so XD so I still consider it "saving up".

      Sorta

I have never used a credit card to buy doll stuff.....the debt I could rack up scares the hell out of me....

    6. I had a friend who wanted a different body for her doll, and had a beautiful double jointed Dollzone girl body in Yellow skin. I had fallen in love with the Helen mold, even though I didn't like the dark face up--but I could get blank Helen head. So after much thought and my first meet up, I put a down payment on the body and did a short layaway with my friend (in cash). I paid off in about three months and then ordered the head for the doll after my first payment (I ordered on a card off Mint on Card--LOVE that site). The same friend that sold me the body also does amazing face ups, so my first doll got a face up from her. To me, it makes the doll extra special, because not only was my friend able to provide "half" the doll (and now the body went to a good home), but the face up that I love was also done by this friend giving it a lot of sentimental value. :)

    7. I purchased my first doll, an SD Soom female, from her previous owner, a fellow member of our anime club, with an entire paycheck! Totally adore her & have never regretted it, needless to say I was happy I had stocked up on Ramen as I only get two paychecks a month! -_-

    8. I was saving up for DragonCon. Found the dolls earlier, never thought I could afford one. But 7 months later, I had enough for my first and knew I'd be blowing the money at DragonCon anyway so bought him!

    9. My friend suckered me into XD she found me one I couldn't say no to lol... So I bought her on layaway... (Final payment goes out Monday!) I'm having it sent to her first so she can make her clothes, then she is bringing her with her when she comes for a visit ^____^ and to attend Anime/Doll North in Toronto Canada ^__^

    10. I was getting impatient waiting for volks to restock Dollfie dream bodies so I was looking at resins. I said I'd never get a resin b/c they looked too real...hahaha I lied. I went on a work trip to Kansas and bought her on ebay one night in the hotel. I just paid for her outright. I cleared like $900 that week with all the overtime so it didn't hurt so bad. And the company bought alcohol that evening helped too lol.

FYI: she's the girl in my avatar

    11. I saved up for a few months and used paypal directly from the company :) I adore her. She is worth every penny.

    12. I used my sister's credit card and then paid her back later.

    13. My first doll was a fullset DZ Hid that my parents bought me for Christmas. He had just been released and none of the US stores were carrying him yet so my parents bought him through an Ebay dealer in Australia. I'm pretty sure they used paypal to get him. I don't think DZ even did layaway in 2007 but I could be wrong.

    14. I bought my first doll from the now-defunct Canadian BJD distributor Featherfall, using Paypal. I ended up having to pay my father back the full cost of the doll as I didn't have all the money at the time. Pretty average stuff, really.

    15. I found a European dealer (!), checked their credibility and feedback as best I could, and paid in one go through Paypal. It's easy to say if you don't need to save up, but I don't like the idea of paying off a luxury item like a doll. I bought my first at a time when I thought, I have saved my pennies, I can give myself a treat... Of course, in the meantime, I have given the "treat" a whole family :sweat.

    16. I bought her compulsively, in one time ^^

    17. I work a job where I get little to no hours a week, so I got really lucky with my doll....During christmas we get the most hours so I got a 300 dollar paycheck and used that to buy my first doll! Now that it's not christmas anymore I can barely scrape together enough money for gas, let alone more dolls :-(((

    18. I paid my Doll actually with the money my husband was saving for the ps4 over the last year, but the ps4 isn't available here and after waiting for Christmas and even my Birthday, I had enough and came up with the doll.

    19. My first and second resins were gifts for me from my mom. Avalon was my birthday present and Vala was my Christmas present. I love them both so much.

    20. I bought her through Featherfall by using paypal, taking advantage of a free shipping event they had on.
