1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you purchase your first BJD?

Nov 10, 2013

    1. I was saving for either moving to a different house or to go on vacation. I used a little money from my own savings to buy a doll on the Christmas event sales to save more money while getting 2 dolls XD (feels bad now;) )

    2. I was still in high school when I got my first bjd (if I remember correctly...) and broke ^^". Layaway was pretty uncomon then... I'm not even sure if anyone accepted that kind of payment plan...

So I had a few one-day jobs here and there, sold some stuff, had a little help from my parents, and saved for an entire year...
Then I bought my first doll :)

    3. I saved up for a really long time , sold some stuff , have a part time job and then I bought my first doll together with my friends to save on the shipping cost .

    4. I saved and saved and saved. For a ridiculously long time. And even then I thought I was going to have to buy him on layaway. But within 2 days of making the first payment, I got a little unexpected money, so I put it all on my boy and had him paid off in under a week.

    5. I saved and sold most of my manga collection/ japanase artbooks. It was completely worth it.

    6. I save some money before I love my doll, when I want he come to me,I bought it directly!I feel very existing when I wait my doll for 2 months

    7. I bought my first doll on layaway, but then paid her off almost immediately when I received birthday money.

    8. I got a very high paying job that paid me 1k a week (yes, a week) and with that, used the money to buy my doll. I'm still a student living with my parents so thank God I don't have bills to pay, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to do it.

    9. For my first doll, I worked all summer to earn enough money to buy a doll. I paid it off in one lump sum. That's how I prefer to do things. All of the dolls that I bought myself were paid for like this.

    10. I really want a BJD so for my first one I ask my mom if I could buy it and she set a condition for me to get 4 or more As for IGCSE.
Now I save money to buy dolls myself!

    11. My first doll was a Tender Too. I had a job at the time and no bills to pay imediately so a friend of mine (who wanted the tender bee) went in together to buy the pair. We were then introduced to this community and this is where I bought my next doll parts. To be honest, the Tender Too has been the only doll that I have ever bought whole. The rest have been piece by piece because it was more affordable to me that way. :)

    12. I saved up by putting a portion of my paycheck to the side saying that was only to be used for buying my dolls so I could see how much I had for him and how much I had for everything else. I plan to do this for my next dolls as well.

    13. I kind of circled around the doll hobby for years and years, lurking on DoA and Deviant Art and stuff. I always thought, "I really want one of these, but what if it turns out to be just a phase? That's a lot of money to spend on a phase." (I was a very self-aware teenager, apparently.) Then one day I saw the absolute perfect doll, and thought, "You know what, I've been pining over this crap for four years. It's probably not just a phase," so I went for it! Couldn't be happier.

    14. I started getting into the hobby late last year.... i found a pic of a doll i really liked and it made me determinated of getting one like that. At first i didnt know they where different doll makers or that certain sculpts where more popular than others. Yet the moment i saw the price, i knew i didnt want to give that much money to any random site that was accepting credit cards so i decided to check on my favorite ( and most trusted place in the web to buy - ebay ) and got one there from a second hand onwer. I still have the doll, and its still my favorite.

In the end i suggest you get your doll where you find a better deal or the ideal sculpt you want :D. Do lots of reserch and have fun ^^

    15. I picked my first up on holiday in Japan.
The amount of second hand dolls available to choose between was amazing.
Looking back now I should have bought more.
Oh well, looks like I'll have to go back again.

    16. My first doll was from luts :)

    17. I saved little by little... It was hard but worth it!!

    18. Just bought mine a couple days ago.

I stumbled across the hobby at a time that I happened to have some extra money. The job's just been going well and rent's been cheap enough, I guess.
I waited about a month to buy both of my first dolls together after I discovered the hobby, just to be sure I was safe to spend the dough (plus it got me an event head :D)

    19. I had several years of scrimping behind me so when I fell for my LTF I could afford to buy him.

    20. Fortunately I have a healthy discretionary income and just used Paypal.
