1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you purchase your first BJD?

Nov 10, 2013

    1. for the fist doll, I used half year to let my parents order one as a present for me.( when i was a kid)
then i started to save up the money, it was a really hard period, but i was really enjoyed it

    2. I saved up for my doll for a very long time and bought her from the company. I did this by hardly buying an Layaway just seemed like more hassle to me, and I worry with layaway that if I couldn't afford an installment or changed my mind in the meantime, I wouldn't get my money back and that I'm stuck in an agreement with them.
Also I had some birthday money, and left over money from a college trip that went towards her, which helped me buy her a bit sooner than I'd planned. :)

    3. I brought my first via Angelesque which is a UK dealership for BJDs and it is through that I brought my first BJD. It saved me so much on shipping fee and not having to worry about customs.

    4. I ordered from Mint on Card and used layaway. I was nervous about such a large purchase from an unknown overseas company, so I went with an American dealer. I was very happy with their service and communication.

    5. I didn't know about layaway then and had to save up the money for my first two.

    6. I got mine from Ebay. You can use Paypal or credit card.

    7. Though the sculpt I eventually settled on was not too expensive, I wanted to save up extra so I could buy a wig and clothes, too. And, because my parents were rather iffy about the idea, I wanted to show that this was something I really wanted and that saving up was something I could do. I saved up money I got for birthdays and holidays, and I did some odd jobs here and there. I set an arbitrary goal of about $500... I promised myself that once I could save up that much, I would buy my doll and everything I needed for him! And that is exactly what I did. I paid in full, and I had to wait inordinately long (for this particular company, anyway) but when he got here it was so worth it :D With any luck, I'll be working full-time within the next couple of months, so hopefully the next doll I get won't have such an arduous savings period before I buy her.

    8. I bought mine via Alice Collection´s and paid her with PayPall. I was really nervous that I would do something wrong and lost my money while transfering or something like that. But all went just fine.

    9. I saved up little by little and ordered directly through the company with Paypal ^^

    10. I bought my doll from the company's official Ebay agent and used Paypal.

    11. My doll came from money my Dad won in Vegas! Most of it, I used most of it to take my own vacation, but the rest I saved to buy my first doll. Although I had the full amount in my account, I did a three part layaway with Luts becaue I was unsure about sending that much money at one time. I felt if I did get scammed or did something wrong, then at least I wouldn't have lot all my doll money. Luts was good about contacting me though, that I ended up paying the full balance remaining on the second payment :)

    12. I saved up for a year or so and held onto my money until I decided to order from Dollshe (head) and Dollstown (body) directly through their sites and I used paypal. Everything went great.

    13. I got my first doll from mandarake, and paid by payal. I think I was able to pay it off in a little over a month!

    14. i don't know if this applies since it technically wasn't a purchase, but its a somewhat interesting how it happened!

So i was working at an artist alley table with some friends all weekend, it was sunday and it had been a iffy weekend due to badish sales for most ppl in the artist alley.

while at our table a very nice person came by with a sign and told us they were raffling off their bjd and that you could get a raffle ticket for a dollar. while my friend asked them what a bjd was and received an explanation, i decided i had made a decent amount thus far and could easily give away a dollar (cause i never win anything). I bought a ticket and put my name and number on the other half of the stub and that was that.

the raffled was to end i believe at 4pm so they would text the winner then. in the mean time people told me how they spent 5-20 bucks in raffle tickets so even less chance for me with my 1 ticket. well it was almost 4 and we just finished lunch and got the text saying i won. i screamed found the person and got the doll with a face up and eyes, full outfit, two little plush friends for him and a carrying bag~

long story short i got my first bjd for a dollar. by chance. and i couldn't be happier.

    15. I purchased my first doll from Manu Shop (a German dealer for DZ, DF-H/A, Dikadol, etc) with my save up money. :)

    16. My mum bought me my first doll off eBay from an authorised dealer for my Christmas present. My second doll (my birthday present) came not long after~

    17. My first doll was a gift, my second one I saved up for over the course of a few months. :3
I'm going to be saving up for bodies for my two floating heads as well.
The two heads were spur of the moment. :P

    18. The first one I got from the company, paying with paypal.
And I feel really bad for saying so, but I could get him right away (worked about 40h/week then)

    19. Since I'm still at school and don't have a job, I saved up from years of babysitting and any other cash I managed to get. I ordered mine from the dealer Angelesque so I wouldn't get slaughtered by shipping prices

    20. When I ordered there was a discount event on, so I paid in one go using an ebay dealer >w<
