1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you purchase your first BJD?

Nov 10, 2013

    1. I first discovered BJD in 2004 and desperately wanted one. I saved money from some sales of my art and then went wild, I got 4 dolls in the space of a month in the beginning of 2005. I paid through paypal and 2 of them where from a buying service.
This year I went a bit mad again, I had no intention of buying any dolls and then ended up with 2 secondhand from ebay, I had to use my credit card for them though.

    2. I am going through a dealer with a layaway plan because the company itself does not do layaway.

    3. I ordered my first BJD from luts Webside.

    4. I bought my first doll from the company. I can't remember if I used a credit card or Paypal, but I know I didn't do any kind of layaway.

    5. My first one was a little money saved up. I had purchased a ResinSoul mini on Junkyspot.
After that, when I started making more serious doll purchases, I used Mint on Card for their long layaway.

    6. My first doll was a birthday gift from my grandmother. My second doll (arrived soon after) was a birthday/Christmas combination gift (this happens to everyone born in December :) ) from my sister. I just had to pay for their clothes and wigs myself, which I bought with money I'd been saving for a couple months.

    7. I was convinced by my sister to order a doll through the Luts website using Paypal.

    8. I got access to my 401K. LOL LOL I put my first doll on layaway. My 2nd doll (which actually showed up at my house first) I bought 2nd hand w/PayPal.

    9. After looking at the different company, I wanted the shaun at SOULDOLL.
it was a birthday gift :)

    10. I bought mine used. On Visa thru Paypal.

    11. I was saving for a while, but I wanted to save up a much larger sum than I needed for the doll so that when I eventually did buy her I'd still have some money stashed away in case something unexpected and urgent came up, like a big bill or fixing something broken. Eventually I caved and ordered her on my debit card about a month before I planned to, paid it all in one go, and I didn't regret it. I like paying all in one go because saving up gives you time to think through your purchase and I don't like having impending payments hanging over my head when I go grocery shopping.

    12. I'm another that just blew tax return money :) something I plan on but don't plan on having so it was an easier way to purchase that way than trying to save up as I had been looking for a long time but didn't want to wait when I found the doll I wanted >o<

    13. I sold a lot of things (textbooks, guitar, video games, etc.) and bought directly from the company.

    14. I've been saving up money for next year but then I fell in love with a doll. I wasn't just going to spend all my money on it, but I knew I could get it somehow. So I asked my parents if they could help me pay for it as a Christmas present (they didn't know what to get me anyway :-)) and I asked my grandmothers if they could help a little as well. It all worked out since Christmas is in the horizon. So I ordered direct through the company and used layaway and payed in intervals (paypal) throughout the month. ^_^

    15. Since she was an inexpensive one (hujoo freya) I just paid in full. I don't have her anymore though, as I gave her to a friend.

    16. My first doll is a hybrid, I got head and body separately.
I wasn't planning to keep it, I just wanted a head to experiment on, but that changed very quickly and started planning to get her a body.
The body was different, as it's more expensive than a head, I actually begged my parents to get it for my birthday.
I was very lucky that the skintone and fit was a perfect match.

    17. I'm buying my first BJD directly from the sculptor. They were nice enough to let me split the cost into two payments. Still a lot, though!

    18. I went to an Anime Convention and there was a vendor there that was selling BJD clothes, shoes, accessories, etc. and I asked if they are selling the dolls. They were selling second hand ones/fixer uppers and only had one left that was stained. I was a newbie at the the hobby and I honestly told them I had no skill to fix it. So she let me buy the doll she had displayed on the table. :D

    19. I got mine as a sort of Christmas present since my parents and other relatives put some money too. I also worked before that and saved some, so I was able to buy it directly from the company in just one payment. Since at that time I didn't have a credit card, nor a paypal account, my older sister made the order for me and I just gave the money to her.

    20. Right here on the market place. I brought him as a head at first and then brought him a body 6-7months later.
