How Did Your Doll Get its Personality?

Aug 26, 2014

    1. Usually I decide the personality of the doll by its features. Some dolls have a strong and intense look, others seem too soft or quiet. I believe the way her lips look and even eyebrows can mean a lot.

After spending much time researching and admiring dolls I can look at them and soon set the color of hair and their eyes, the kind of hairstyle, the shape of the eyebrows and fashion style that they will have.

It must be because I have done pre-made human models in my mind. I also like to invent people in my head, people I wish there were, and I'd like to know.

I think the fact that I don't to have many friends it done with that I become these dolls in real humans and my true friends.

    2. I did not wanted to defined a character. Instead, I want the character to be displayed by itself over time.

    3. Most of my dolls are based off of characters I have created, so it takes me forever to find a doll that 'speaks to me' and matches what I have in my head. I am very picky about what dolls I get, cause of this. When I got Sammy, my first resin doll, I wasn't entirely sure, but as soon as I had him home and all dressed with a wig and eyes in, I knew he was perfect. Since then he has sort of added to his character on his own, but he's practically perfect for what I had in mind.
The DF-H girl I'm getting was an impulse buy, so I might let her sort of develop on her own, as will the RS Feng in purple I'm now getting as a Djinn character.
Other than those two...I prefer my dolls to have characters settled before they arrive, and if they develop a tad beyond that on their own...well, it won't surprise me too much. It'll be fun when I get the triplets. I have the names for the kids, along with what I want them to look like, but I haven't developed their characters too deeply yet. So they'll be a handful.

    4. both my dolls are based on characters from a book, so there was not a lot to decide for me about their personalities as the authors of the book already did that for me ^^ now that I'm deciding on the face-ups, though, I've decided to go for a bit of artistic licence...

    5. The RealPuki's come out of the box with personality. The impish smile just says it all!

    6. I had my girl's personality decided before I even got her, because she's been a character of mine for a while now. There's always changes that I make depending on how she develops, but I pretty much think of the personality before I get the doll, but it changes as the doll changes. c:

    7. I'm kind of like you--if it weren't for my sister, my dolls would just be sitting there, looking pretty. The way my dolls got their personalities is...different, because my sister gave them their personalities. Just out of the blue, she'd voice out their thoughts with the funniest personalities. I mean, they're not exactly what I expected my dolls to be like, but it's better than having them just sit there. ;x

    8. It's hard to explain. I've never decided the personality, I kind of just let the doll speak to me if you will and it just comes to me, like their names.

    9. I believe the feeling I feel when I see the picture of them,I really like the personality of her on the picture I will buy it,after they came with me,when I play with them ,what feeling they give me is their personality

    10. I saw my first doll and she looked like what I thought in my mind a favorite character in a book I had read when I was younger looked like. I was instantly hooked and got her and proceeded to be super excited I could dress her and change her hair to make my imagination come to life.

    11. I picked my doll because I could just see her personality from the shop photos. She had these big sad eyes that screamed, "don't I remind you of one of the sweet, shy little girls you know from Church? Wouldn't I be the cutest, most sensitive crybaby ever? You really ought to bring me home." So for me, her personality immediately hit me just by looking at her photos. I don't feel like I had to do any work at all to figure out who she is! :XD:

    12. Usually they tell me, Like Nox did, But Vi has been much harder to figure out, though I've always known that she'd be a little jerk. My unamed girl though is so blank and hard to read...it's a little unnerving. When ever I see her in my head, shes disappearing in between trees in a well lit forest with her empty eyes looking right through me. jhasjkhfjkha BUT SHE WONT TELL ME WHO SHE IS

    13. My dolls personify the characters that I created/got inspired by. As their story progresses, their personality becomes more and more obvious. So based on their personality, I then pick the right doll to shell.

    14. I immediately created the company. Role in the company were distributed according to the highest probability.

    15. I had a character set for Rosica, from my OC's and their back stories and stuff I've written. The first time I saw her company photo in passing I knew right away that was my Rosie. Got her blank, so when I first saw her I thought she was cute, but was kind of a tad disappointed I didn't feel the same way about her...after I did her faceup though and got her settled she was perfect! Her character shone through, and she's exactly how I had created her in my stories. That bossy, conceited, temperamental 5yr old - who does have a sweet side - is always there sitting on my shelf with her uncle Sammy...forever demanding to know where her 'perfect' brother is. :D

    16. I don't have my girl yet but she has a personality that goes with her concept. I think it should suit her because I created it specificly for her sculpt and colour scheme. I'm sure I'll learn more about her once I have her and work on her! I'm very excited XD

    17. As others said: they tell me. I was lucky with most of them in the fact that I found their wigs and eyes very quickly. Though my Littlefee girl turned into a Red haired elf from a Green haired elf. I have presently a problem with my new SD and I hope he'll like the new wig I bought him when it arrives. Their personalities are quite homely and simple, though my little elf has the liveliest temper of them all.

    18. I create their personalities but the look of their sculpts and face-ups. I can imagine how their look like when they feel happy, sad, angry~~ My littlefee Pong and Pukifee Mio will be coming soon~ That will be one naughty little boy and a shy baby girl :D

    19. I had ideas of what I wanted her to be like but she just showed me what her actual personality was the more time I spent with her.

    20. My doll is based off of my D&D Drow Warlock. His personality is very close to my D&D character although he has his own little quirks that the character doesn't have. I always felt the character would be anti-social but no matter how hard I tried he never turned out that way until I got my doll. He doesn't like to be around anyone but me, so he actually brought a characteristic back that I wasn't able to achieve.
