It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. *How* do dolls look "happier" or more "annoyed" in particular outfits?

Aug 3, 2009

    1. I always thought it was a case of projection, but some people have brought up different ways of looking at it! This will come in handy, say, when I'm in the dock for being a nutter someday??? I can say in my defense: "No I didn't mean that my doll looked happier in that dress, your honor, I meant the red in the flower print highlighted her lips which made her look as if she were smiling"

      XD Awesome!

    2. I have no clue how they do it, but they sure do. XD Shan never looks happier than when I dress him in his 'modern ninja' ensemble, but the one time I tried dressing him all rockstar-like.....I have no idea how but the smirky face looked a lot less smirky. He definately looked unimpressed. I sometimes wonder if its an angle-shot thing, but I've photographed him twice before now from the same angle at meets, and on the one he looks quite smily and welcoming, on the other he just looks moody and a little stoned, to be frank. I don't know how they do it but its creepy sometimes. XD

    3. Yes, I have felt like an utter loon telling someone that "he/she just didn't like their new oufit/etc." and getting back "you mean you don't?" blush, stammer "no...they don't." I've had it happen with eyes, eyelashes, wigs, outfits, shoes, almost anything really. Most recently one of my dolls hated a blonde wig I stuck on her temporarily, it flew off! I'd turn around to get something and the wig would be on the floor, even with her velcro >_<

    4. Just a few days ago,I putted Maru in an Alice in Wonderland styled dress, it was originally for Kanon, but it didnt fit her since shes SD and the dress was for MSD.
when I looked at his face, I SWORE that his face is no longer smiling. and i dont mean like a teensy bit I mean by totally no smile at all! o.o

    5. Jareth hates the DZ Hid outfit I bought him. He refuses to stand in it and sometimes even fights when I try to put it on him. The first day I got him I put it on him and I tried to do a photo shoot with him and I swear he was frowning the entire time. I even got after him for frowning the entire time I was taking pictures, before I realized I was talking out loud. ha ha ha

    6. I do NOT know how this happens, but I know that it does. Drives me nuts because I don't understand it!

I've had it happen more often with proposed character assignments than with outfits. We went through three potential Kaoru sculpts before arriving at a girl who made Kenshin happy. Weirdest dang thing I ever saw. He just gleamed when I put her down next to him.

Then there was "Vampire Hunter D" who, no matter what I gave him or did for him in order to enhance his look, did NOT want to be D! Now as a completely different character belonging to my elder daughter, Lizardbreath, he seems quite delighted to be an overachieving, evil-leaning magic user. Don't ask me. *_*

Sometimes... they just find a way to express themselves.

    7. haaaaaaaaaaaa i have no clue as to why this happens but it makes me laugh so hard! When I first got my El (Tala Feilin) me and my friend tried him with different wigs and clothes just for the heck of it and this one very fluffy top she gave me to put on him just as i finished putting it on him his head swivelled a little and he "looked" up at me as if to say "What the hell are you doing?" >_< he did not like that top heheheheh

    8. Aah yes... I've experienced this with my Dollstown Amy. She's always a bit grumpy looking but even more so when I put her in a supercute girly skirt and top with bunny ears. I was scared for a second that she would kill me in my sleep. :aeyepop:

I like the explanation of our subconscious telling us our preference, but I like the idea of dolls having their own tastes even more, haha!

    9. I have experienced this a lot!
Specially with my little one (DollsBe mango). She usually has this happy smile but I noticed she looks lonely or sad when wearing certain clothes.
I suppose it is a matter of colors reflection and a lot of owner's subconscious but it keeps being curious and makes having a doll even more interesting.

    10. I think it's a weird way of confirmation bias working. You don't like the doll in the outfit, so your subconscious tells you that that the doll doesn't like, or vice versa.

    11. ^ This. I agree with the thought that if a doll seems unhappy or uncooperative, it is essentially confirmation bias that we are experiencing and in turn portraying on the doll.

    12. I think the person who said ," Imagination" , was probably right.

My first doll liked everything he had, all twenty or thirty outfits...but I custom made all of them precisely to his taste, and they were mostly red, his favorite color. He is a happy natured guy who loves clothes. I don't have quite so much time to sew now, so I buy more clothes....and my other dolls just seem a little grumpier about their clothes. Nefertari is an exhibitionist who somehow manages to expose her chest, no matter what she is wearing. Epiphany hates her lavender paisley Easter dress, I think she feels it is too short, and it comes past her KNEES! What a pity, she won't wear short dresses, she is an Iplehouse EID Carina, and they have those most gorgeous legs!

    13. I wish they could all look happy and share the same clothes so I don't have to keep buying! >_< unfortunately, they all have their own taste and when I plan their personalities and fashion style, sometimes it works (hallelujah!) and sometimes it doesn't work (time to shop for new eyes/wig/clothes to find out who they are:sigh).

For example, one of my girls hates black and she only wears pastel colors and girly clothes. This saddened me because I got her many clothes in black...she doesn't even like black shoes and I got those too >_< my other girl is a tomboy but she is more of a sport/simple kind of girl type. She doesn't like dresses or high heels and the black clothes/black shoes I have are dresses/skirts/high heels so now I'm stuck with them and I have to sell them. The bad thing is that they were expensive and expensive items take a long time to sell.

I don't know why this happens but it happens. On one hand, I wish it didn't happen so I don't have to spend/lose money and on the other hand, I'm glad it happens because it means they have their own little persona. :)
