1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do we 'play' with our dolls?

Mar 20, 2013

    1. I wish I could display mine-too many curious cats! I love trying new looks on mine, and plan to take more photos when the light is good.

    2. I just like having my girl sit with me while I do stuff most of the times but I also like dressing her up and taking her out and taking pics, someday I'll get to making her stuff and doing photostories

    3. I display mine. It's fun to look at pretty things. I also RP with their characters, and when I'm not bogged down with school I try to make things for them. I never could get into the photography aspect of the hobby though.

    4. Mine are a catch all of all the creative things I can think of. I love to make things for them. I love to create their characters. I love to write stories about them. I love to "play" with them. I am not good at photography, but I do like seeing how they look in photos. I love buying things for them. It is so much fun to go in some store and find that perfectly sized accessory which would be perfect for this doll or that. I don't display them now. I used to have them sitting on shelves, but I feel they are safer tucked away into containers. I too have several curious cats, though they have never really done anything to harm any doll besides lay in their laps or something. My newest member of the cat family though, I don't really trust until she outgrows the crazy kitten faze, so we'll see then. :)

    5. All of the above. They're like an ornament, a toy, a friend, a character shell and a model all in one. It's great :)

    6. Mine are for display and faceup purposes! I'm learning to take better photos of them but they're shells for characters that have existed in my head for years. I'm hoping to get good enough to start posting photos!

    7. Normally when I take my doll out, I'll change his clothes or alter his outfit a little. That's usually followed by posing and shooting a few pictures of him. Sometimes I just sit and admire him just because I want to take him out and do something with him.

    8. I will eventually. I'm still practicing with my new camera...x.x I haven't found a shot I feel comfortable posting...but I will.

    9. Definitely all of the above! I play with them, I love being able to just look at them, they make me feel better when I'm blue and are a continuing source of inspiration when it comes to making things for them, working on their characters or taking photos!

    10. I only have one doll but when I have more I will probably play a bit with them, I'm a child at heart. I don't display my doll that much, she sits around my living room but I spend more time making her outfits and taking photo's. It helps me work on my photography skills and I enjoy posing her.

    11. I fit into the "all of the above" category, like several others who've already posted here. :)

I do display my dolls because I'm proud of them and I want others to see them when visiting my home, but that isn't the main reason I got into the BJD hobby. I love to photograph my dolls. In fact, photography is one of my favourite aspects of this hobby for me. I like making photo stories, taking my dolls to interesting places for photo shoots, or just sharing fun pictures with people in the discussion threads.

I would have to say I also play with my dolls. I love dressing them up and posing them with their props and each other. I often carry them around or have them sitting next to me when I'm doing something like sewing, reading, watching a movie or using the computer. The play extends to my imagination as well, because each one of my dolls is a character with his or her own personality and back story. Many of my dolls are "related" to each other. I even have a couple who are married. :aheartbea

Playing with my dolls is good for my mental health. I find when I'm doing dolly stuff, my stress level goes way down and I can just relax and disconnect from real-life issues and problems for a bit. I am in a fairly high-stress career so, to me, playing with my dolls is a healthy outlet. Besides, I am a 36 year old child and in some ways I refuse to grow up. :)

    12. Did you take any photos of the ceremony? That would be cool to see! It would also be a fun idea at a doll meetup where a doll-couple are getting married and everyone has their dolls in attendance. Now, that would make a cool photo!

    13. I do take photos of my crew occasionally, but they're mostly just display objects.

    14. Yes, eventually I will have to give it a try (as my hands are shaking *lol*)

By the way, not to go off topic but...the lady who has done face-ups for my dolls has (3) MiniFee's. They have a very sweet quality about them.

    15. I sometimes take my Doll with me when I drive, because I'm really afraid of driving. ^^;; Its true! If you think about it your in an bomb going 70 mph a foot away from another bomb driving just as fast and any wrong move and BOOM. I take a doll with me so that I drive safe. Sometimes I hide things in their backpacks and heads.

    16. I play with my dolls by posing them, cuddling them and watching movies or playing games with them nearby. Other ways I enjoy my dolls is by taking pictures of them or brushing their wig...><

    17. Oh yes... Michael and Andromeda do indeed have a wedding album. If you'd like to see it ---> Michael & Andromeda's Wedding Album

    18. WOW...those are beautiful. The compositions and colors are wonderful. Great job!!
My favorite pic that you shot was in the 3rd post, next to last, with the couple on the left side of the composition It's a technique I have used a lot. Andromeda looks lovely in all the photos but in that one even more so and very life-like. Was the dress a stock dress or was it custom made?

      Thanks for the link.

I have thought about putting one of my dolls in a wedding dress, but she doesn't have anyone to marry. Though, she is a model doll so I can pretend she is modeling for a wedding magazine.

    19. Thank you so much! I'm flattered that you like my photos! I had a lot of fun with that shoot, although I got a lot of funny looks from people in the park where I shot some of those photos. One elder couple was quite funny, though. They just fawned over Andromeda and Michael and thought it was lovely that they were getting married. Then the husband started asking me all kinds of questions about my dolls.

Andromeda's dress is from Amy Couture. I don't think she has that dress any more, though. I made Andromeda's veil and jewelry myself, and I put together her bouquet too.

I think it would be fun just to do a modelling shoot. I did that with my only SD boy in his formalwear (except he is naughty and wanted to undress for the camera lol). One of my favourite things to do with my dolls is to photograph them, and I also love looking at other people's photos of their dolls. :)

    20. I don't want to break any rules here by posting a link on the forum, but I do have a doll website of my photography if you want to PM me and I'll give you the link.

Know, however, there are *nude & boudoir photos on it so if that stuff offends you, or it's against the law in your country or jurisdiction, please don't go.
I know they are 'just' dolls and all of my dolls are 'woman' but different countries and states have different restrictions so I like to always tell people up front.

*Nothing sexual. But, I realize some people find a nude body (doll or otherwise) offensive.
