How do we 'play' with our dolls?

Mar 20, 2013

    1. Display. It used to be play, then photography. Now it's just display lol

    2. My dolls are mainly for display. I love having them around more than anything, but I do occasionally photograph them, draw them, write about them, sew things for them, and paint face-ups.

    3. I do lots with them... paint them, sew for them, photograph them, just have them nearby. One or more usually sleep in the pile of stuffed owls that occupy 1/3 of my bed lol. I spend my hard earned money on them, and just seeing their beautiful faces makes me happy :)

    4. I got into the hobby so I could sew for a pretty doll. I also have found they the dolls are an ur-hobby - I can do any creative hobby I've ever done or considered doing with the dolls: photostories, background story writing, historical research, sewing, painting, building stuff, scrounging thrift stores.
The only place my dolls don't go is my outside hobbies: bicycling, backpacking. Although, I am in the planning stages of a vintage camping outfit.

    5. My favourite way to 'play' with my dolls is to either pose them interacting with each other, or to pose them in ways that really suit their individual characters.

I also spend a lot of time photographing them, sewing for them, and writing about them (which usually involves the aforementioned posing activities as inspiration, which is why I count it as 'playing' 'with' them :XD:)

    6. I'm curious as to how different members interact with their dolls and do with them. What are some of your favorite things to do with your bjds?

    7. I still can't get past the fear of making my dolls dirty or breaking them, so I don't play with them really - I avoid handling them and tend to just dress them, sit them on a shelf and admire them, after taking a photo!

    8. I make outfits for my doll and take photo's and when my fiance isn't around I talk to her...and sometimes when he is around I talk to her. Saying that we both have a habit of picking her up and saying "come on Clara, let's move you". I think it's because she's so realistic looking it's hard not to treat her like a tiny living breathing person.

    9. I make outfits for them, I undress and redress them regularly, do faceups, change their eyes and wigs for fun, pose them, take them around, take pictures... there are just so many things one can do with the dolls!

    10. Sometimes I will just pick them up off the shelf and hold them in my lap while I watch tv or am on my laptop. It's good bonding time.

    11. I do a lot with my dolls, since I decided long before my first doll arrived that I would not be too scared of damaging my dolls to do things with them. For as much money as they are, I find that just displaying them wouldn't make it worth it for me. I photograph them (indoors and out), undress and redress them, carry them around at conventions, take them to meet-ups, cuddle with them, and I have a habit of just taking them out and staring at them because they make me very happy. I also spend a lot of time brushing out their wigs, I practice posing them even though I don't plan on taking pictures, and I take my tiny in my purse places sometimes. I'll also take them to friend's houses so we can take goofy pictures. I also, because all three dolls are original characters of mine that I like to write about, will set them on the table while I type my stories. I think it helps with my inspiration.

    12. i only have 1 doll as of yet, and she is rather timid, but we play regularly. i dress her and change her and dress her again, sometimes i make things for her like clothing or foods, or jewelry if i have the right supplies. i take pictures of her when the weather is nice, and take her with me when i buy fabric and things for her. sometimes i take her with me to my friends house, she makes NICE clothes ( i am still a novice and am rather unskilled). i will be taking her with me to an anime convention, she is going to help me display some items i am selling. i will pose her and talk to her, and move her so she can be with the family. if the baby is asleep, i practice posing her based on pictures of models and people so i can get a better idea of realism. i talk to her when i play with her, but thats not uncommon because i talk to inanimate object, pets, people, myself, and in general are a vocal thinker. she has a story i wrote, as well, so sometimes i talk to her about it (it has helped me deepen the story i wouldnt otherwise have learned). now i feel like dressing her up :D

    13. I only have one doll so far too. Most of the day, he sits on my shelf because I'm so busy. But I love taking him down and cuddling or taking pictures of him. I love sewing for him too, be it clothes or wigs. He doesn't have a faceup yet (cuz it's too humid right now for me to do one :|), but I'm planning that too. And the best part is having conversations with him, the kind where we just stare into each other's eyes and say a million things without ever saying a word. That's not overdramatic or anything.

Thanks for asking this question, MoonHawke!

    14. I hardly get to "playing" with my dolls these days, so they spend most of their time in a drawer. Once I'm able to do face-ups again later this year, I hope to be back to face-upping and photographing my dolls. Then go through my stash of sewing supplies and make clothes for them. I used to come up with lots of stories for them too, but my head is a bit full at the moment with other life stuff, so doing more hands-on things like styling and photography gets my preference now. Recently, through making sculpting videos, I've learned that I also like making videos of my dolls, just showing how they work and what I like about them. I'd like to do more of those in the near future.
Sometimes I catch myself with a doll in my hands just looking at it and moving the arms and legs around to try out different poses. I find it kind of relaxing even if it's nothing special. XD

    15. Playing with dolls....the possibilities are endless!

I sew for them, do their faceups/blushing/tattoos, I pose them, set up rooms for them, do photoshoots or photostories, role play online, go to doll meets, change their clothes, shop for them, talk to them (because it's so hard not to!), have them sit near me when I'm watching tv or online, cuddle them.....I'm a very hands-on owner.

    16. I make things for them. All sorts of things and pretty much all the time. There's always a few ongoing doll projects around here. And I pose them, photograph them (but that is a very minor part of the hobby for me, i'm not a camera kind of person really) and talk to them. Sometimes I just sit and watch them and make up stories in my mind.
Sometimes I draw pictures of them, but not as often as I'd like.

And they make great conversation pieces when I have visitors. Most my friends are the creative type, so even those not interested in dolls usually are curious about what new stuff I made and things like that.

    17. I'll move Leah around and pose her, even when I'm not taking pictures. Sometimes I just change her position; sometimes I'll give her a prop. If I have furniture out, I'll move that around as well and pose Leah on it. I'll even change her clothing on occasion. Right now, she's sitting on my sewing and fabric box, holding one of her dogs in her lap and the other on a leash.

    18. I love just holding on to my minifee mayumi. When I pick her up, I give her a hug, then comb her hair to neaten it, I hold her in my lap while I mess about on the computer or I take her in to the front room to watch tv. I love just sitting with her, having her try out new poses and trying to come up with a idea for her next new look. She sits on my pillow when I start settling down to go to sleep, then me or my boyfriend will tuck her back into her own bed for the night.

    19. I sometimes move them, take them to another room with me, take them outside for photographs, or just simply set them on the bed next to me and kinda pose them and neaten their hair while I'm waiting for a page to load. I'll also change their clothes, but that doesn't happen too frequently. ^^;; Also, I'm not sure if I consider this "playing", but I also make up stories of my little family in my head while looking at them, imagining how they interact with each other and such.

    20. I do not play with my dolls, they are playing with me

Mom, we just looked for new clothes. Do we have to clean this now?
