How do you and your dolls interact over a day?

Aug 14, 2015

    1. Mine spend 99% of their time in their boxes. It's the safest place for them and I lack anywhere to display them (I currently own 32 dolls from tiny to 70cm SD's). That isn't to say they never come out of their boxes. Probably three times a month I'll bring one (or more than one if he's a tiny) to work where he'll sit on my desk for the day. I have brought in my big boys to work, too, and had him sitting on my desk in all his 70cm glory. I work in the coolest office ever. I also make about 90% of their clothes and when I'm sewing I'll frequently have the doll I'm sewing for out beside me on the couch for easy test fittings. I'll also take them out to meets and if I feel like taking photos, I'll lug whomever wherever to get the pics I want.

    2. My dolls sit around in our bedroom/living room (we have a big room upstairs that we use one corner of as our bedroom, while the rest has our books, tv, entertainment systems and sofa/chairs in it). I usually spend some time with them at night, redressing them or just looking at them and refining their stories in my mind. Sometimes I set one down on the sofa with me for cuddles, but usually I'm happy to just look at them.

    3. The only way I interact with my dolls is when I change their clothes and take pictures which is once in a blue moon (too busy lately). I have them on shelves for display: I keep my SDs and DDs next to my bed and my MSDs, tinies, other dolls in front of my bed, in that way, I'm always looking at them and that's enough for me to feel content :]

    4. My dolls sit on my bedside table so I can reach out to stroke their hair or change their posing a bit when I get bored, and I can look at them whenever I please :3
Photoshoots happen maybe once a month but other than that I don't move my dolls around too much for fear I might break them or mess up their hair XD

    5. Umm i don't interact with my girls in a very big way everyday.
Rina is usually in her bedroom inside my closet so i check on her whenever i get dressed. My other two girls are usually just sitting in one of my bookshelfs but i don't really check on them everyday like i do with rina tbh.. ( rina is the favorite)
Every once in a while i will take one of my girls out and take photos of them, i usually forget to put them back after so they usually sit in my desk and i play with them every once in a while until i remember to put them back into place. When my baby cousin comes to my house we usually play dress up with one of my yosds or both bc she loves them but she is too young (2.5) to play with them on her own

    6. I usually give my little Aya a kiss on the head every morning and every night. Her hair is kind of finicky, so I don't mess with her too much- its usually Cicel who watches shows with me, or is occassionally left on my windowsill while I take naps (kind of like napping with me :P ) . But Aya spends more time with me considering how much I craft with her- she spent three whole days in her stand on a work desk recently while I made her a wig. I like cuddling with them both and often want to take them places with me. I don't really "play" with them, or take them out for photos (although hopefully that will change when I get some sort of camera), and I have yet to attend my first bjd meet-up. I'm hopeful that all will change in time, though, because I love feeling like I'm active in this hobby and in taking care of my two resin charges.

    7. My dolls spend most of their time on their sleeping bag or on their showcase.
But if I have one or two or three of them that I'd like to play with, I'll take them out and stand them on my bedside table.
If that's the case then I will tend to take their pictures and upload them on instagram or flickr.
Whenever I have a free time, I will pull out my backdrop and take a few "better" pics of them and share them online :)

    8. Mine sit on a bookshelf next to my desk. I look over at them often because they make me happy to see them. Occasionally one will come and sit on my desk to keep me company. Usually my sweet boy Genesis (5Star Tumnus). Gen sat on my desk all last night while I worked on his family tree.

My dolls never leave my room. I have no plans to take them anywhere. I would be too afraid for their safety. I'm very protective of my "kids". I did lend my Misora to my best friend Cory so she could make some jewelry for her, but I was nervous the whole time. I trust Cory completely with my dolls, but I was still a wreck until she brought her back.

    9. My dolls live on the shelves in my room and right now I am VERY short on space, so much of my interaction time with them is spent on moving them around and fitting them into new spaces where they will not be in danger of me accidentally knocking them over.

When I'm feeling crummy or bored or sad or whatever, I try to find time to switch the outfit on one of my dolls, or play around with different wigs or something. If I have less time, I'll just snap a few photos of one of them (or, time permitting, dash out into the back yard to get some daylight shots).

Sometimes when I'm working on my computer in the office or the living room, I'll bring one of my dolls in to keep me company. That runs the risk of turning into a quick photo session, though, so if I'm really busy they stay in the bedroom!

    10. My dolls spend most of their time in their boxes. My apartment gets far to much sunlight to have them all out on display, but I do take them out on occasion to have them sit with me or to take pictures. The only doll that receives special treatment is my Soom Crow, who is displayed on a shelf in my bedroom because his wings are a pain to take on and off, so I just leave him out. I installed room darkening curtains in my bedroom for my migraines, but it offers him protection from the sunlight as well so I don't worry about him yellowing.

    11. My dolls generally stay on their shelf, but once every couple months I'll change their outfits. ^^ That being said, I do occasionally grab one to cuddle with if I'm watching a movie/reading/feeling stressed/etc.

    12. Most of the BJDs are in the living-room on shelving units, one under the TV, another in a corner to one side of it and shel ves in the alcove between them (the darkest part of the room farthest from the window).

There's usually at least one of them in the sewing-room, however, for fittings for sewing projects that are constantly one the go (I start a lot of projects, getting around to finishing them, however, is another matter entirely), and if I've been playing with and/or redressing any of them, they're usually left where I plonked hem down when I'd finished or been called away, so the shelve are often a mess with gaps in the overcrowded lineup and other dolls slumped around where I've taken one of them out of their assigned place.

Interaction with them varies, I'll often pick up one that catches my eye and tidy a wig or straighten a displaced piece of clothing etc, and might then carry them off wherever around the house I was originally headed. I often take a doll or two to work with me.

    13. Most of my dolls live in the bedroom closet. The others are either in our "doll cabinet" (top shelf are our minis, bottom shelf Monster High dolls lol) or on the highest shelf of my girlfriend's desk. Unfortunately, they can't be more at-hand because we have young, wig-eating kittens in the house. :P

As far as interaction goes, it depends on the day. Sometimes I'll do a photoshoot with one or more dolls, sometimes I'll just pull someone out to hang with me so I can look at them, pet them, etc. while I play on the computer or watch TV or whatever. A lot of times when I'm really upset/sad, I'll shut myself in the bedroom so the kittens can't get in and get one of my dolls out just to hug them and play with them, because it makes me feel better. :)

    14. I wouldn't carry my dolls around much. My dog is the Destroyer Of Worlds. Blackmouth cur and pitty mix. She's the best, but she's SO CLINGY. I'd have a doll in my lap and suddenly a 40 pound fur monster squishing it. No thank you! lol :)

    15. Whenever I'm sitting in the computer I keep my doll with me, or whenever I'm in my room, he's usually on my bed with me as I use my phone. Otherwise he's sitting on his spot in one of my shelves, which is also in my room. But I do play around with him a lot. If I go to the couch I bring him with me, but I don't really watch TV since I prefer to look for stuff over the internet. All in all, he's usually around me as long as I'm home. We take silly pictures together! And I like to brag about him to my mother, haha.

    16. Unfortunately Nadeko spends most of her time in her box in my closet (although at the moment she's sitting in a small spot on one of the shelves in my closet and does occasionally spend a lot of time there too). There's simply no safe place for her to be out and displayed.
I do like to take her out for photos every now and then and used to have her sit by me on the couch when I did work but I very rarely do I do this anymore because of the cats.

    17. I don't believe that there's such a thing as a "normal" doll owner. As for me, I don't interact with my dolls that much to be honest... If I sew or craft for them I'll keep them on my desk, but that happens very rarely and the rest of the time they're just sitting on a shelf in my wardrobe... Maybe I should give them a hug or pat on the head sometime so they won't be so neglected ^^;

    18. I usually keep one or two dolls on my desk and pose them or brush their hair. Then at night I put them away for "bedtime".
It's really a comfort thing for them to be near me, especially since I've been having bad anxiety.

    19. I have a glass door cabinet in my room that I keep them in, where they can be safe but I can still see them. I love being able to just occasionally glance over and admire them. They stay in there the majority of the time, though when I'm in the middle of crafting something for a particular doll I'll do checks on how it looks or even take the doll out entirely to test the fit of clothing and such. That would be the extent of my 'usual' level of interaction, I suppose. I do sometimes just take one of them out to just hang out with me, though it doesn't happen particularly often. (especially since I don't have much room....) I unfortunately don't take them out for many photoshoots yet either because I just have so many things I want to make for them first!

I would actually love to take them out more often, though - specifically, when I'm making something for a doll, I'd just like to have that doll out with me - but since I do most of my sewing and stuff downstairs, I get a bit self conscious of my family watching me;; (even though they are supportive of my hobbies... it's just me being easily embarrassed, orz)

    20. The dolls that I'm not working on are usually in their boxes. But the ones that are posing for backdrops, or modelling for clothes, or waiting for tattoos are strewn out and about. Sometimes I'll have bits and pieces of resin here and there. I don't really cuddle them or do stuff (like watching movies) with them. I've paid the price numerous times, like messed up wigs and scratched faceups. But I WILL go and check on them just to admire them. Sometimes I catch myself stroking their hair or faces. It's fun reading other people's experiences.
