1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you buy dolls?

Jul 28, 2016

    1. I prefer to buy new, but in the case of some of my artist dolls, I've had to find them second hand.

    2. I buy my dolls as a mix of new and pre-owned. I generally prefer pre-owned because the wait time for the doll is so much shorter, also it's usually easier to arrange a layaway that fits my needs so I can obtain the doll. It's hard to buy new for me because money is usually really tight. So far I really haven't had any trouble with the secondhand market, I get all of my secondhand dolls off of instagram since I don't yet have access to the marketplace here.

    3. I’ve bought new direct from companies and from dealers, used through the Marketplace, and used through Mandarake. I love the shiny newness and sense of knowing my doll’s whole history that comes with buying new, but I also love the no wait times of buying used. I don’t feel like I have a clear favorite.

    4. I usually prefer to buy dolls new unless it's a sculpt that I can't get new anymore! Even then, I will buy the head second-hand and buy a new body if at all possible. Doll bodies have changed a lot over the years and I feel like the newest bodies have the best posing; plus they will last longer before discoloring!

Otherwise, if I can get a doll new I absolutely will. :) It doesn't always make for a better experience though, one doll I bought took over 2 years to come home! But the worst part is, I love the doll enough that I am considering getting another from the seller despite my experience.

The rest of my dolls (so far) have come home fairly quickly. But I only have 3 dolls! I am waiting on one body, one MSD, and one animal doll right now, so I'll have more experiences to talk about soon I am sure.

    5. I have a hard time waiting for pre-orders or made-to-order, so I usually love when I can find dolls secondhand. If it's someone local who I can meet in person, even better!

    6. I prefer used, mostly for shorter shipping time. But I've bought new. Sometimes things are too sought after or not popular enough to buy 2nd hand.

    7. New, i realized that buying old dolls are just paying them at the price of a new and makes it totally not worth it considering the fact that why should i but a old one at a price of a new than a new with a new price?

Plus I don't really want yellowed dolls unless I'm the cause of it hahahah (stupid yea)

    8. My first doll was secondhand from oobiedolls, my second doll is brand new on layaway. I think it's up to the owner to decide whether or not they want to own secondhand.

    9. On ins tag or facebook, also taobao and xianyu!

    10. Since I usually like unpopular or just released dolls, I have to buy from a company.

    11. I got my first two dolls new because I wasn't too sure about the second-hand market at the time. I've relaxed a little since, and my most recent doll is a hybrid from both markets; I got her head second-hand and her body is new.

    12. I like purchasing direct from the doll companies, and okay with an agent like Alices Collections, and Stacys Pink Ocean, Also happy with purchasing pre owned. :-)
