1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you cope with waiting?

Jul 9, 2021

    1. Focused on the dolls I Have and the projects I created for them. Still so much to do because I do all of my own customizations such as wig making, face-ups, clothes, props, eyes... but I do not make shoes. I usually have plenty to keep me occupied while waiting.

    2. Not dealing with it the best way, really. I keep buying stuff I'm hoping will fit. I have several wigs, sets of eyes and clothes for their eventual arrival.
In between those I keep myself busy by being bad at naming so at least I have plenty of time to come up with a name I like. ^^

    3. I've only ordered a few clothing items recently, and they were all in stock so it only took a few weeks to get here. Earlier than the shipping notifications were saying too, which was nice. I'm far busier than I ever want to be, so it's easy for me to not obsess over waiting for something. In fact, it makes me feel less guilty for not having time to play with my dolls much because I'm waiting on something for them.

    4. I plan! I make detailed character profiles, design/create/buy outfits for them, plan faceups + wigs and obsessively look at other people's interpretations of the sculpt. I'm a pretty patient person and I find that the wait helps me build more excitement for the doll as well as allowing me to get everything ready for their arrival.

    5. Usually whenever I buy a doll, I have a character already and just need a shell for said character so unfortunately I don't have time to use to flesh out a character beforehand and end up obsessively looking at company pics promo videos :sweat

It was until recently that I realized that doing layaway actually helped me out with the wait time because I ended up focusing on the next due date for the layaway, more than actually waiting on the doll. The doll ended up feeling like a reward for making all the payments on time, which technically is true, but layaway definitely helps me take my mind off of the doll taking long to get to me and instead I look forward to my next payment that I can payoff :XD:

    6. I usually have more than one order on the way, so even with long wait times there's something coming fairly soon. New clothes, a wig, a pair of eyes, another doll...

I admit it's not financially the best way to cope, but I do tend to spread out the more costly orders and settle on smaller things meanwhile.

    7. Play with old dolls and not think the new one. In fact, I think it's good to wait for about 2~3 months, so that I do have enough time to conceive face-up and name. But of it might take longer than one year, I'll not order it, because I don't believe I can bear with that.

    8. When it's >2 months away, honestly, my ADHD means I have a hard time conceptualizing time like that? :sweat So that's not too hard. It's just one of the many things my brain ping-pongs to: "Oh! I have a doll coming at some unspecified future time! That's nice."

...when it's an in-stock doll and it's just a question on shipping times... this is a little harder! Especially since I'm waiting on an impulse buy, so I haven't got any real concrete plans. I'm taking the time to try and make some plans, come up with things I want for her, loosely plan out wigs and clothes... I have *some* clothes that will *probably* work, but I just don't know if they'll be the right style! I probably still won't know until I have the doll in my hands.

    9. I’m always so frustrated when it comes to waiting for dolls. Sometimes I want to sell them before they even got to me purely due to the waiting time, and covid definitely isn’t helping.

The only doll I have ever happily waited and excited throughout the whole waiting period was Fairyline60 Miwa from Fairyland. Something about this girl just really attracted me.

For other dolls I generally look for clothing and other accessories while I wait to distract myself from the long wait.

    10. In my case I have been planning the character itself, outfit and personality because I didn't do that before. I also like to draw the character while I am waiting for the doll. :)
If I have enough money, I start buying some stuff for them, or craft some items.

    11. This might sound horrible, but typically I go right into planning which doll I’m going to buy next. The only problem with this, is if you do it too many times in succession, you end up like me and totally forgot you ordered a doll in the first place, until you get an email saying they’ve been shipped.

Definitely not the most economical way to pass the time though…

    12. Layaways. Focusing on my pay schedule helps pass the time.

    13. My latest coping technique is to completely erase all the memories of ordering a doll. That way I don't stress out that it's taking too long, don't have to count the months, and am pleasantly surprise when I receive a shipping notification.
This is the only way I can cope with waiting for my Dollshe orders.

    14. I personally love refresh the order form over and over again. Even though I only ordered the doll an hour ago; and it will take 3 months before it even ships:frownyblush:

    15. I'll either buy for them (Wigs, Clothes etc) while I wait or buy a in stock doll that can ship to keep me occupied. Mostly the first one. I never had to wait long at all with the companies I buy from.

    16. I've been waiting on my first BJD for a little over a month. September passed by pretty quickly because I couldn't process the fact that I was actually going to get the doll I wanted for a year. Recently, I've been searching Etsy for eyes, mohair, sewing patterns, fabric, etc. to prepare for her arrival, as well as planning her faceup. The problem with planning all of this to pass the time is that it actually feels real to me now, and while I haven't gotten too impatient yet, I imagine it'll only get worse when I start ordering stuff for her. That's not going to stop me from doing it, but safe to say it's not the best coping mechanism.

    17. Since almost all of my dolls are for shelling characters, I tend to write or draw. Before I find the perfect sculpt, getting how they look from my head to paper is really hard. However, having the doll as a reference, even if its just company pictures, helps me work out how to draw them. Writing is also super helpful since I can use the time I'm waiting for them to develop their characters.

    18. At the moment I'm kind of...not dealing with it. In that I'm eyeing an in-stock doll on a different site which can be here sooner than my current processing order which has production time and shipping time.

    19. I will probably order eyes wigs clothes etc. I would also make some clothes according to the measurements. But yeah it is hard to wait no matter how much time we kill.

    20. I tend to cope with the wait by looking at accessories I can buy for the new doll. Or browse the sale sections... which I do not recommend xD
