1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you cope with waiting?

Jul 9, 2021

    1. I just kind of put it in the back of my mind and forget about it until the time the company might ship. I also have other dolls to distract me. I also start planning on what to do with the doll, what their style, name and personality might be even though 95% the dolls reject everything I planned for them :sweat they have a life of their own! but still, it's so fun to plan ahead and imagine different scenarios.

The longest I've waited was like one year from a Volks pre-order and the fastest was from Smartdoll, it took one week only :o

    2. I order dolls two times a year. I buy in June or July so that it will be a birthday gift for myself in September. I buy from the same companies and know how long they take to ship their dolls. The other time I order is in December when I've gotten money for Christmas from family. Then I expect the doll to arrive in February or March. So the average wait time is 3 months.
The longest I waited was for a Rui head from Bobobie via Denver Doll. It took 6 months. I would hate waiting longer than that.

    3. I try to look up owner pics or promotional materials, but otherwise I just forget about it until I get a shipping notice.

    5. First, it was strange to wait 30 days for a doll. Before BJD I never preordered anything with such a long turnaround time. But since 2009, I have got used to it. The world has changed to 'limited edition', everything is custom made, so I now I have no problem with placing an order and make payment months before the delivery if I trust the seller. It is the same with fountain pens (I am a big fan of these), action figures, kickstarter projects. It has become normalcy for me. But I remember how stressed I was back then when I first had to pay quite a big pile of money and wait at least 30 days until receiving my order. I totally understand the anxiety. But don't worry, you'll get used to it. The hardest part is the last couple of days after the order is shipped. It might take just a day or two for the doll to get to you, but that feels longer than the whole pre-order period.

    6. I rarely have a problem with it. As long as I know I'll get the doll eventually, the wait doesn't bother me much. But I have to admit that I also collect video game statues on the side and the waiting times for them are often even longer (in some cases two years or more). Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised that the waiting times for dolls are comparatively "short". But it probably also helps that I love the feeling of anticipation.

    7. I only own a smart doll so I think I have it easier than most, however I still have a hard time waiting. I typically like to browse Etsy for clothes & accessories, maybe even buy them in advance. I like to try to make my doll as unique as possible so I plan on what I can change the most from the doll lol.

    8. gosh im way too sensitive to wait longer than 6 months.
I usually prefer to buy secondhand or in stock because of this.
I actually get more anxious the closer it is to getting here. I have a doll that should come in tomorrow and I'm freaking out.

    9. Mostly I just don't think about it much. I back Kickstarter projects fairly regularly, so I've gotten pretty used to waiting on things.

I usually do look at clothes/accessories/inspiration for them a bit, but it's not so much to cope with wait times as it is I just generally enjoy doing so!

    10. the only thing you can do is…Just divert your attention !!!!꒰ ᐡ •̀ ̫ •́ ᐡ ꒱

    11. Now I get to join in on the wait time! +1 for being someone who had backed a number of Kickstarter projects pre-pandemic, and only now are they beginning to ship or even start production. In the mean time I've browsed Etsy looking at various outfits and accessories, but I know I gotta wait before I have them in hand to figure out what my dolls really need. And now I gotta sit down and seriously hash out a budget and adhere to it to see how much wiggle room I have for this hobby -- something I should've done beforehand, haha. I want to learn how to sew and make clothes too!

    12. Since I'm also into lolita fashion I'm kind of used to long wait-times for things. I usually try to just place my order and forget until I get the shipping notif, but with a new hobby I can kind of get hyperfocused on it, haha. Right now I'm trying to fill my wait time for my first doll to arrive with trying to find clothes and wigs for her!

    13. Either by buying a previously loved or in stock doll or by concentrating on my other hobbies. But yeah, the wait can be excruciating at times.

    14. I'm in the figure/toy community so I'm used to some long waits between preorder and having in hand. Usually, I just bounce to another hobby to tide me over if it will be a long wait. It also helps that I'm fairly forgetful so after a while, I tend to forget unless I have some sort of constant reminder.

    15. I prepare my doll’s personality/ outfit/ wigs during the waiting down time. Sometimes, I will also write a story for them. If the bjd have been released before, I will look at photos or unboxing videos from YouTube or social media to get myself ready. I don’t often think about the waiting process, as time flies by quickly these days. Cheers to everyone here! Let’s all excitedly wait together!

    16. Short answer? Barely. I haaaate waiting in all aspects of life.

Long answer? I busy myself with other creative endeavors. Currently started on a couple of paid art projects for people since I have an agreement with myself that at least 60% of my doll money must come from art and not my actual paycheck. Also scribbling out some designs for myself!

    17. I stare at photos other have taken of the sculpt and start creating their backstories. I do kinda forget about half the time as I have ADHD so, you know, out of sight out of mind. But that's what I do when I do remember

    18. I usually just try to forget about it and focus on my current dolls. But usually I just end up buying more doll stuff, or a new doll while waiting for the other one. It’s my guiltily habit.

    19. Try to distract myself by buying clothes/wigs for when they arrive :p

    20. I will spend a lot of time on buying accessories to distract myself.:atremblin*_*
