It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How do you display oddly shaped dolls?

Jul 1, 2022

    1. Hi all, not sure if this question belong here or somewhere else but I’m wondering how you would go about displaying uniquely and oddly shaped dolls so that they’re secure from falling.
My personal dilemma involves a hybrid with a minifee head and Dollzone Tarot the Moon body, the body that ends in just a spine, no legs.
I have seen pictures of them displayed in boxes and bell jars which look great but I’d like something more upright like a stand of sorts maybe?

      Any ideas?

    2. An under arm support could work.
Either in the shape of a basic waist stand simply positioned to rest in the doll's armpits. This would be somewhat visible, of course and it may require a bit of hunting for a stand that has a fairly slim upper part so it doesn't interfere with the dolls arms too much, but on the positive side it make it easy to remove and replace the doll in the stand.
Or suspend the doll, using wire, threads, or something like it. This would require something above the doll, so it may or may not work for your situation. Depending on the place for the displey it may be possible to fix it to the roof, the shelf above or even to build some sort of a frame or shadow box.

I think it somewhat depends on what the doll represents to you.
If it's an actual body it wouldn't just float unaided in th air, so if it's ment to be something like a scientific dispaly you could use that theme to make a visible support.
If the doll is ment to represent something like a ghost, then making it seem like it's floating would make sense, so something like fishing line could be used for a close to invisible suspension.
If it's ment to be some sort of living dead or corporeal ghost, then letting the doll itself hold whatever pose it can with the parts that is has would make sense and it could be fun to experiment with poses that the doll could hold itself up in, using furniture or other props to aid it.

It's always interesting to see what people do with unusual dolls!

    3. Thank you @Lillith, very helpful ideas. I think the underarm support sounds more functional and along the lines of what I was thinking. I’m certainly open to any advice, people on here come up with so many wonderful and clever ideas.
Now comes the question on how to go about making such a stand! The stand would be part of her overall design/look.

    4. The Unoa Chibi stands involve an angled metal stick that goes into a hole at the base of the scull just below the wig at the back.

Perhaps somethign like that would work for your hybrid, if you can bear to drill a hole in the back of the head....

@Lillith 's suggestions sound much less invasive though.

    5. Lol, I discovered that concern when I brought a pair of DC Centaurs to a doll meet and realized my round-the-waist doll stands weren't adequate for when the back legs decided to go sitty. Ended up bending the rounded wires vertically, to hold them around the tummy.

    6. One of the best displays of a mer-fish bodied doll I have ever seen was an online acquaintance who twined theirs around a "jewelry Tree" stand so all of it was visible in a naturalistic way without it just hanging from a waist-hugger doll stand.

    7. Oo that's such a clever idea! I should try it

    8. I like @Rosslyn 's idea! You can get a jewelry stand at any craft store and sometimes big box stores like Kohl's, Target, Walmart, etc. So you could try one of those! Otherwise a standard doll stand - also available at some craft stores and definitely online - could work under the arms. I believe there is even one on ACBJD that is supposed to look invisible, so that might work?

    9. Wow, so many great suggestions, thank you so much everyone!

@Teddy never knew such a thing existed, would probably be a great idea for someone but not me…..far too chicken to try drilling a hole :)

@hobbywhelmed glad you sorted your problem out. Just goes to show doesn’t it as I would have thought centaurs to be a bit more stable (if you pardon the pun) than that. Probably look quite comical when they ‘go sitty’ lol

@Rosslyn would never have thought of that, what a clever idea! Might make a good starting point, thank you!

@jessholy I shall have a look around, I’m in the UK but I dare say there will be similar here. Will have a look on ACBJD too, thank you for the head’s up!
