How do you feel about albino dolls?

Feb 4, 2013

1. Heh, I sometimes refer to Pete as my 'white rabbit' because his coloring is not at all realistic for a human-- but I love albino animals too. When I write about him, he is more realistic than his physical depiction.

I'm with you on wanting both-- I love how striking he looks with the pop of red against all the white (and I mostly dress him in all white, with tiny pops of color). But I have an albino character who, if I got him in doll form, would need to be done realistically, with the platinum-white hair and violet-blue eyes. For me it has to do with the fact that his world is more realistic and less cartoon than Pete's is.

(side note-- it wouldn't be racist, though it could be seen as fetishizing a medical condition.)

And Kymchi, there's a thread in picture requests for albino dolls! They run the gamut from cartoony stereotypes to well-researched and realistic, and are lovely.

2. That's quite nice! I agree with you on that. The red against white is definitely much more striking, but I think the actual physical looks of the condition are just as beautiful. I might try to buy some white and blonde wigs as well as violet-blue and red eyes myself!

(Also woops. I just think the colour combination is pretty. Ah well!)

3. I like the albino look for some dolls, but some just can't pull it off. My BBB Ariel is white but I could never see her as albino whereas my RS Long who is also white could totally pull it off. Now that I think about it I might try it out on him just for fun.

4. I really enjoy seeing dolls that have the same kind of imperfections or pigment disorders that humans/animals have. It's a welcome change to all the super perfect dolls out there . Though I don't think I'll ever own one myself, I like albino dolls. They look very pure but also a little ghostly and mysterious, which is pretty cool. I prefer dolls with darker eyebrows and eyelashes, which is why I don't think I would ever have an albino doll, but I really love a pale skin and light colored hair.

5. I think albino humans are beautiful. I see nothing wrong with an albino doll. People are far too worried about offending every one else these days.
My girl Asaneth is an albino girl and I think she's lovely.

6. Morriscode- your doll is stunning!

The thought hadn't crossed my mind but my pale skin saint Victor could probably be made albino and be rather good at it :)

7. Well...one of my characters is an albino child with blue eyes. I did get her colorless eyes but that didn't feel like her anymore. I find pure white clothes for YOSDs are hard to find so dressing her has been a problem and requires that much more effort.

8. In my view, I think albino dolls are a hit or miss. I've seen albino dolls that look AMAZING, whether it's by the sculpt, the wig, eyes, faceup, clothing, etc. However, there are some I've seen that just doesn't look good at all and would of been better with some sort of pigmentation in the resin

9. I think albino dolls are really cool , I love the combination of the red/pink eyes and white hair- ooh you inspired me :)

10. My first doll was Luts Noella, i also made her albino looking :)

11. I have a bit of a fascination with albinism, and a few of my characters have varying degrees of it. Of my dolls, though, I only have one so far. Her skin is probably too white, but that's a matter of the way the company makes it. Her character is from a loose enough world that being a little too pale is not a problem to me.

(her appearance as a doll is based on her stage look- she's a performer, so she wears make-up, falsies, colors her hair, etc. She's also blind, hence the eyes being clouded over)

I've got plans for two other albino dolls who would be more realistic looking. One of them has it only in the eyes, the other is full albino. It'll be a long time before they become reality, though. For the full albino one, I'd go as far as to fully blush him to make the color right- those characters should look as real as I can get them.

I guess tl;dr: I love albino dolls.

12. I love albino's. People call my husband albino too because his hair is really white and skin too. But he's just very blonde, his eyes are blue and he can see very well. So I had a doll with white hair and blue eyes. I love red eyes also. I'm always lurking here at the photo threats to search for albino ;) Wow your doll is amazing and the model also!!

ps: search for Ava Edney. Amazing girl!

13. my DD 'Carly' is all white, white body dd with white hair and red eyes so i guess you could call her albino, i like it :)

14. She's beautiful :3

15. albino dolls are lovely, having a kind of elf feeling, very attractive;
all white dolls with coloured eyes are great too!

16. Where did you get those eyes?! They're beautiful <3

I love Albino dolls. I can't see myself owning one, but I love looking at them :D

17. Wow I'm super late to this thread but I have a doll with albinism. I did my best to do plenty of research before creating the character as I know it can be a touchy subject to some. I've explained before that the reason why I went for white skin and white hair in the design was more for aesthetic reasons on a doll, as I think it brings the look together in a theme that I wanted for the character more than for the albinism factor. Anywho, sorry if any of you have seen him before but this is my character, Morgen. I have another head/faceup planned and hopefully will have more realistically albino eyes. Again, these were temporary and more for this exaggerated look than for accuracy. (And sort of placeholders until I could find the best eyes for him haha)

I also enjoyed browsing the thread, everyone who has contributed with photos have gorgeous dolls ♥

18. Molliebean,
Wow she is beautiful. What color is that you used for the eyebrows? I love it.

19. They're from http://mysticeyes.blankiblue.com/
I wish they had more preorders, their eyes are so pretty and detailed. ♥

20. I think albino dolls can be gorgeous and while I initially had no plan of having one, a white skin doll I ordered ended up being super SUPER white and I can't think of how to style her except for just making her albino *_* but we'll see
