1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you feel about...all that plastic?

Aug 13, 2023

    1. I feel that the bjd hobby may be the ideal way to treat plastic. It doesn't end up in a landfill. It's made on demand. It's well cared for. It's sold on when no longer wanted. The creators are paid fairly (hopefully).

    2. I also reuse bubble wraps, boxes, and other stuff. I don't really feel guilt for my doll hobby in terms of plastic related. Well after reading this i do a little now.

I don't really have a strong opinion on this because I don't know much on it. I worry more for the people in factories who work for very little money outside of Western world. It makes me sad that people don't live on the same living standards as the western world. I worry more for that and water consumption. I waste too much water i feel like. I feel sad for those kids working away their childhood while some children in parts of the world live nice lives. I know this is unrelated, but it makes me upset seeing a child get like 10 to 100 presents on one Xmas while a child from a poorer family gets maybe 1 or none. I wish there was a more equal distribution of wealth and resources.

The only reason I feel like I can enjoy this hobby is because I come from a country that is more well off and have better living standards compare to other countries. I feel like people born into well off countries are lucky compare to maybe a country in a time of turmoil or something else that effects the living standards. Sure being from a more well off country doesn't mean you will be well off, but I feel like it's a good starting point to be able to start an expensive unnecessary hobby.

    3. ^ All of this! This hobby is the last place I worry about my environmental impact, aside from maybe recycling mailing materials as much as possible, but I do that for everything.

    4. I think about it a lot. You can definitely buy less stuff. I'm sure we can replace toxic sprays with airbrush and non-toxic sealant. (My future plan.)
I often buy older heads and bodies. I try to recycle trash when making props, such as cardboard boxes, leftover styrofoam from filling electronics boxes, recycling my clothes in the form of new clothes for my dolls, and many other ways. When I have the opportunity to buy something for dolls directly in my country instead of from the other side of the world, I do it.
I don't like impulse purchases of dolls, I always think about each one for a long time.
Sorting waste materials is a matter of course. I will use many of them again.
I have a bit of a bad feeling about sanding and sealcoating, but it's a job I do once in a very long time and not just because I'm lazy. (I am. :sweat )
