Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How do you feel about modifying your dolls?

Oct 8, 2013

    1. Oh, there is one modification I would love to do, but I am really scared about it. My Iplehouse SID girl's fingers are all together, so she cannot wear gloves. But they are made in a way that I am really very afraid to separate them. I even bought her a pair of jointed hands. Unfortunately, these look too small. Thus I am still debating whether I should risk the finger separation or not...

    2. So far I've mainly done sanding and (permanent) additive mods. Just minor ones (adding elf ears to a non-elf sculpt), but I'm planning to do some more extensive mods once I work out the best working conditions for it. I don't have a good ventilated work space, so I need to test out some methods of working resin that limit/eliminate dust before I start on the bigger projects.

Aside from the logistical part, though, I'm looking forward to trying it out! It'll be two dolls getting similar mods, a combination of additive and subtractive (something I've never tried), and I think it'll be a lot of fun to do!

    3. I forgot about finger separation being a mod....I've done that.
Along with eye and mouth opening, sanding necks down for heads, hip socket sanding for posing (which did nothing XD I totally did it wrong!), sanding down elf ears, reshaping eyes after damage, reshaping nose after damage, repairing other damages, complete de-gendering, FtM and MtF mods, reducing the "baby fat" on my Dollmore boys (all but one), and last night I carved out the neck hole of my MD Mir so he could fit on a Lati body which I had to shorten the neck on, then sand it down to meet somewhere in the middle so neither piece had to be that drastically modded. Head fits like a dream now, and I didn't lose the thickness or detail of the neck :)

I have no problems modifying my dolls if I need too. I'm not one to just run around with a dremel and sandpaper like a cray just for the sake of it....especially when it comes to the face. I have a huge amount of respect for people who can look at a doll and think it's perfect if they just change the mouth/nose/eyes/face-shape...then actually do it. I usually only buy a doll if I like it as is XD
Exceptions might be elf-ears. Someday I want to add some to a doll just to see if I can (I have two heads ready to go for practice...I've just never done it XD).
Bodies are different...I have a lot of odd height requirements, and body shapes and genders don't always match up to what I want :/
Then it's time to break out the sanding gear.

Sometimes I want to try a few things...I would love to bring out the cheekbones on one of my Kara Klums, but the fear of ruining them keeps me from doing it, and I'm kind of attached to all of them as is. Maybe I should get another one to attempt it on...

    4. *revs dremel*

I've done small stuff like adjusting the fit of a headback or opening eyes, and I've done big stuff, like chopping up and hollowing out various resin bits to make them jointed. (Like Soom tails and RS Pixiu feet) and of course, just about everything in between. I also do additive mods with epoxy, but I LOVE my dremel!

    5. I don't modify my dolls, but I'm not against modification at all! Some can be really well done, others not so much. But my own dolls are already like I want them with the exception of my Soom Shale whose character is asexual and needs an asexual body. It doesn't bother me enough to sand away his boy bits though.

    6. Yeah, I really like big noses, but so far my doll's noses have all stayed the same because modding their face is one thing that I'm slightly scared of.

I've modded my Unoss's face out of necessity. The problem is that because I wasn't an adept modder, faceup artists have commented that it's really hard to paint my doll. I'd like to send her off to an adept modder so that I don't have to put faceup artists through any strife when I send her to them.

    7. I'm not into it.

I've opened eyes in sleeping heads. I've widened eyes in dreaming heads. But that's it. I felt bad enough making those changes, since they were rare heads. I don't buy heads and dolls unless I really like the sculpt, so I don't need to make changes. Maybe only small changes, but that's all.

    8. I am fearless about modding, I've broken one of the two heads I'm sculpting almost every day this week, and if I can keep rebuilding him each time, sturdier resin dolls will be no problem. Between sculpture and pony customizing, I'm really not afraid of what dolls need.

    9. Haha, totally something I'd want to practice first. In one aspect I think it would be fun, but in another, you can't really 'erase' that kind of mistake all the time... So I don't think I'd ever be very ... comfortable with it, but I guess that could all change, after getting comfortable with everything.

    10. I don't have a doll yet but I'm planning some mods for my first doll,
scars on her thigh, I'm thinking of maybe seeing if i can buy extra thigh parts just in case.
Also going to mod a head for a faceless look, but for that I'm going to get the cheapest head I can.
Since i'm sanding off the nose and putting epoxy on her face to smooth into a slenderman type look XD
For her non faceless look tho, she's going to have blind eyes and a scar on one eye,
might mod it or might just do it as a faceup, less pernament.

tho i might end up not modding a thing since it would be my first doll and modding terrifies me o.o

    11. I'd love to be able to mod my dolls, and eventually I think I could get there, but right now I'm too afraid. I have a doll that needs a gender change, but I'm not brave enough right now to make her right. I'm generally a very nervous person, so even taking off heads can sometimes scare me. An irreversible mod? Not for a long time. I will say, however, when it comes to taking my dolls outside and in sun and out in public, I'm very brave. That's why I think that there's hope for me yet.

    12. I don't mod my dolls or feel any need to. Basically I buy dolls that I love just as they come from the factory. While I enjoy seeing what other people do I'm not sure I understand it,unless it's to depict a character that looks a specific way.

    13. I'm going to attempt adding elf-like ears to a head for a character. Otherwise, I don't think I would change a sculpt just to change it.

    14. Seeing as I tend to buy dolls I like as-is, I don't see myself making mods anytime soon. I commend people with the vision to do it, though.

    15. I haven't done any mods to my dolls yet, but I'm hoping to do some mods to some future dolls :].

    16. I would not dare to! I will make clothes for my doll and I might switch wigs from time to time, but any changes to the face, head or body are a no-no. If I do not love a doll as is, then I will not purchase it. Kudos to those who do modify their dolls so amazingly. I am in awe!

    17. I remodeled the entirety of my Dollfie Dream Head 03 with help from my best friend xD and when I mean entirely I do mean it! We reshaped the cheeks, chin, lips, nose, opened and changed the shape of the eyes and of course faceuped it ourselves xD;

I've also sent my Switch Seoha out for a change in his eye shape because I wanted a very specific shape and will also be sending out my Fairyland Minifee Woosoo boy as soon as he arrives xP; meaning to say, there's also the option to send the doll to a professional if you're afraid of doing it yourself!

    18. This tempts me a lot, but at the same time it scare me soooo much. I like to sculpt, but I'm really incapable x__x so I'll probably end doing something wrong *sigh*

    19. completely and utterly terrified!!!!

    20. I'm not averse to the idea of modding, but I won't do it myself: I don't have the equipment, I don't have a ventilated space, I have three very nosy cats, and I have some physical nerve issues that cause the muscles in my hands to cramp and spasm if I hold something for too long. I would definitely send my dolls out to someone else, though!
