It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How do you feel about modifying your dolls?

Oct 8, 2013

    1. I was thinking to mods msd doll hands with moveable fingers to make them fits my minifees. I'm good to sculpt with clay, moddeling wax and I'm not bad to sculpt with stone too, but i never worked with resin before. I haven't try anything yet, because I'm to scared(the hands are so tiny) and I doubt this kind of modding should be done as my first time to work with resin..Might try it later when I got more skill...

    2. Sounds like such a cool idea! I sculpt with clay a lot too but Im sure resin would be an entirely different challenge. How would you start making new hands?

    3. The only actual mods I did were modding hands to get a different pose. One of my dolls also lacks two fingers, because he's a thief who's been caught one to many times. But that's as far as I go myself. I'm too afraid to try it myself. Because I've got some important mods to be done (making sure heads fits on necks etc), I usually commission someone with experience in that direction.

Restringing, replacing eyelashes etc don't bother me.

    4. i always have to do SOMETHING to my dolls. What's the point of having them if they're going to look the same as everyone else's? :D

    5. I think it would depend on the doll.

    6. I've skipped out on mods until I decided to make a super-hybrid consisting of a head of one company, upper body of another and then making the lower part myself and then do mods on the existing parts. After that went well, my hesitations and fear have lessened somewhat.
It helps making stuff not connected to the doll first - like masks, weapons or other accessoirs.
Also reading up a lot on the subject of you want to do will also help giving you the knowledge of trial-and-error done by other members and you'll know what materials to prepare or how to avoid ruining a doll.

Of course I carefully think over if I really need to do the mods and if there aren't other ways. If the mods need to be done, I'll plan what exactly I need, before doing it.

Generally 'heat'-mods, which require me to modify an existing part in a different shape - e.g. fingers of hands or bending wings slightly differently - is something I have little to no hesitations anymore. I tried my first heat-mod with a free yo-sd head and it went with little complications thanks to proper research.

Mods that are premanent are something that will take me longer to do - especially mods visible on the outside.

I think dolls that are hard to get, be it rarity or limited or just super-long-waitingtimes or expensive ones are dolls I'm less likely to go ahead and mod. Those that do not belong in either of these categories... all fair game, if I want/need to mod them.

    7. I only made mods if they are neccesary, for example my byakuren head fall down and she los her small and pointy nose, y sanded it but its very hard make something so small look good :/. I sanded too my Green skin monzo because i dont like his gargoyle ears y mede it more Slim and now its a dark elf. Some times y open eyes from dreaming molds because i dont like the slipings molds.

    8. Well, I'm used to sculpting, so I'm not exactly afraid of modding my dolls. But, truth is, I've never modded them because I have no reason at the moment. I'm planning to get one to modify into a zombie (which will involve a lot of cutting, burning and sanding), a sorcerer with a burned face (more of the same, especially his eye) and the such. It's not on the near future (damn college), but if you ever see me ranting around here, you'll know I've started on them ;D

    9. I modded every joint in Danica's old DIM body and it's a work in progress. I had to do additive work around her eyes, which had damage when I got her and that needs refinement. I've done a couple of eye openings, opened arm channels so s-hooks would fit, done a full body sand to get rid of a bad dye job. I'm not afraid of modding, but I need to get better. Although I draw the line at limiteds-I had a limited head whose nose was just not right for the character and sold it rather than sandpaper it.

    10. I want my dolls to have different looks, but I'm too afraid to modify myself so I commission someone to do it. ^^

    11. I've shortened necks, cut off boy-bits and sanced over the alterations and (badly, but it was just untidy and is fixed now) modded the back of the neck socket on a head that couldn't look up because of the sculpt shape.

I haven't had the nerve to change any of the more visible features - I'm no good at sculting so wouldn't even attempt a face mod short of perhaps sanding down the tip of a too-pointy nose or ears.

I'd have a go on joints if they needed it, but I'd start with the least visible ones to get practiced and neat before trying any of the more visible ones.

    12. the most modding I have done is a nose piercing but I was wanting to shorten my rs rongs ears but I cant bring myself to do it

    13. I love it! So far I have only dyed one of my Pukifees and it was so much fun! I am used to customizing My Little Ponies so I decided to try my hands at my floating heads soon. I wanna try my hands at face-ups and carving. I know it will take a while until I will be able to get decent results but I really can't wait to try :)

    14. TERRIFIED.
The only mod I have ever done was getting rid of weird overly erect nipples on a male doll. That was simple though.

    15. I agree with Rosalynmouse.. I'm TERRIFIED too! My SD Obitsu came with a head that didn't have eye holes. I really wanted them. SO i thought i would brave it and cut them out. And cut the head open to get to it all. Needless to say i ruined that head. The doll got packed away for almost 10 years, because i scared myself into thinking i would ruin her more. BUT NOW!! She's finished. I got her a new head. Did her face up. Got her dressed and wigged. I would love to give her earrings, but i'm still terrified to mess her up. It took me 10 years to get this far LOL

    16. No offense glad i came up to this website i planning to buy a dermal or sandpaper pretty much that way i have an idea how to add it on my SID iplehouse female body sooner or later. And i had that lil fear of it lol i don blame you so pretty much will see what happens i mean i saw a topic in the forum. To modify the head then the neck so i fig i should try that which material better dremel or sandpaper me wondering hehe. any ideas i have an Asleep Eldolon xun and say the neck hole is 9.8 same number for my female neck hole 9.8 which fig lil sanding would help be wider is what i figure Any suggestions.

    17. I think I would have to practice on a less expensive doll or a doll I wasn't as bonded with :3

    18. I'm kinda excited about it. My Souldoll Lily C. Has REALLY huge boobs and her nipples show through everything that she wears! My friend and I have plans to sand off her nipples and maybe give her a boob reduction. I also have plans for another doll that I'll be getting soon that I can't wait for!

    19. IMO I would be to scared to actually DO it i've seen some things though, people have done AMAZING things, but i'm not talented or brave enough to do it, plus i'm kinda low on the budget thing too, so if I make a mistake that's it for me, i've tried mod a monster high doll, all I can say is, that it was a TRAIN WRECK. I don't think i'd ever do it to one of my resin guy's

    20. Depends on the doll. One of my heads got a complete remake you cant tell what the original head was (Iit was an event head I got for cheap on the marketplace). He is now very well known as my joker. I love him:) other dolls I cant see modifying. It just depends
