1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you feel about modifying your dolls?

Oct 8, 2013

    1. I actually love the idea of modding.. I actually want to create a design which involves removing a huge part of my dear's stomach and side areas... But I have no guts to do something big without at least some kind of practice before hand. :/ As it is, I'm sanding down my dear's fingers (he's missing 3 fingers though I'm only sanding 2 down and gluing the other on). I'll be placing some plates over the removed fingers. Hahaha. :>

    2. I'm not good at crafting at all ;w; so it scares me a lot, well, that's if its me who's gonna do the mod, I wouldn't mind if someone else does it, but I'm scared too of sending my dolls out... :(

    3. I'm actually not all that great with crafting either, but that's what practice is for(though modding practice would be quite expensive... yes?). Of course, taking your time can be beneficial. I tend to take 3-5 times as long with new hobbies(such as making a wig. Making wefts is so tedious and sewing it together is still a mystery for me pff).
But yeah... Do they allow purchasing of broken or damaged goods on the marketplace? If so, that might be a good way of receiving pieces relatively cheaper to practice with...

    4. I really enjoy the process of modding a doll, but unfortunately so far I haven't had any dolls that need mods :XD: I'm constantly tempted to dream up some crazy elaborate character so I have an excuse to seriously modify a doll, but most of my characters are pretty plain (outside of fantasy parts).

    5. I've never done any mods, but I like the idea. And I'm planning to modify my Iplehouse Bianca's fantasy ears (even if it is limited)I would prefer to give them another shape.

    6. Buying a cheaper body to hybrid a floating MNM onto, it's going to be dremelled into submission since the character is a cyborg

    7. Not for me. If i need something done then i will send it off to someone with the talent. I buy everything stock and with face ups as i cannot give face ups & cannot sew.

    8. As a sculptor myself, I often have things I want to change about a given doll. I just got a limited head off of the MP, and I immediately shortened her nose and widened her eyes. And now I'm super happy with her. :)

    9. I, in fact, do fur wigs <3 I like the process a lot but they're not that good ;w; you're right though, with practice everything gets easier with time. Maybe I'll buy a practice head or one with stains so I can do whatever I need to learn to modd, thank you for the tips:)

    10. I'm actually making mine through synthetic hair from my older wigs that I stopped using. Which means either chopping it and then remaking the wefts or removing the wefts individually, both of which I've done.
And I plan to buy any damaged goods on the marketplace after I've received my other dears from Pre-order just to have a feel for them... I really want to start this project soon because I have so many ideas. x-x

    11. its fine :D
i mod my hujoo yosd abs before....at first i dont like her as much as i want to be.... but after i mod her, she became my favorite one :D
i have upcoming tiny delf otw, i think im gonna mod her too ^^
although its gonna be more frightening, i wish i dont ruin her...but i've learn from my first mod...you just gotta do it slowly but sure
i always said to myself, if you ruin the sculpt, you can always buy the same head sooner or later....as long as its not a limited doll im good with it... XD

im still dont have the courage to restring my msd though.....

    12. I bought a doll that was modified and so long as it is done well I see no problem with it.

    13. Not afraid, though i do not do much modding. Usually i tweak a profile (nose or lips) because i prefer more rounded and such, but i have not done any large mods besides mouth and eye carvings.... yet! ^_^ still trying to decide whether to just sculpt my own, or keep searching for the perfect body.

    14. I will do simple modding, but I have a few dolls that will be pretty challenging, and I feel better about commissioning someone else to do it for me because I can't afford to mess it up. And I would hate myself if I screwed up a mod and I couldn't fix it.

    15. I'm terrified of messing up when i get my hybrid and start modding him!
I love DC's kid-08 body but the character will need carving an dadditive mods, and i reeeaally don't want to spoil that beautiful body.
I intended to get something damaged to practise on but so far the cheapest i've come across that isn't a head was £60 plus a small ammount of p&p. I know that isn't much in the bjd world, but it IS for me in the rest of the world so i'm really torn on what to do. At the moment i'm praying a winter event will provide me with something free to practise on.
The other thing is that i have a wish list of dolls and every £ going on practise, isn't going on one of those dolls..
Despite this, i'm definatly going to give at least some of the modding i need to do a go myself. I love looking at other people's mod projects and they create such unique characters. =)
The one thing i will definatly be asking someone else to do is eye opening. I'd really worry about eyes not sitting right after.
I'll need the lips and cheeks of the DZ Freddy head i'll be using to be sanded, but i think i'll wait till he arrives (very soon i hope!) to decide if i'm up for the challenge. The face being exactly right is very important to how well i'll be able to identify him with the character he should be shelling.
............sorry this was so long lol xD

    16. I'm going to be entering the realm of modded dolls soon! XD I have plans for my Soom Captian Hook when he gets here. Utilizing those reptilian feet and hands of his to be for a dragon instead of a croc. The wings I want for him will require me to mod his back to have slots for him. I will be scared and excited at the same time? I will make sure however to be careful and research it thoroughly. I may opt for different options if the idea of modding him becomes overwhelming but we shall see.

    17. I really want to modd Mara's lips, as of now I'm not very fond of them.
It's just that I keep postponing it, because I'm afraid of ruining her face xD
But, eventually I'll have to do it... I guess.
The problem is just that as long as I don't do it, I won't allow myself to work on her new face-up or Neve's face-up.
And that is rather annoying, because I really want to do Neve's face-up xD

    18. I'm not gonna lie i having that in my to do list soon and order some sandpaper soon and mod the Xun asleep eldolon hen neck hole and copy the exact iplehouse neck hole so once i do that. I hope it fits well and the wigs too . So pretty much is not so bad i hope hehe.

    19. Not afraid but anything beyond shaping the lips and jawline are to much for me.

    20. I am really scared about modifing a doll. I want to get creative with them but I am such a puss and think that worst case scenairo's will happen.
