1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you feel about modifying your dolls?

Oct 8, 2013

    1. For me, it depends on the doll. I collect DDs, as well as BJDs, and I have modded DDs before without regret. However, I don't think I would ever mod my BJD, simply because it is an LE. I plan on wiping the factory face up, but that's as far as it goes for me XD

    2. I suck at modding. I have modded ears, teeth, lips and ruined an entire faceplate. I am still trying to restore that thing. It is my practise FP, so yeah, I hope I will get better at it. Eventually.

    3. I love following modding projects and all that, but for me personally I'm way, way too scared to try. I also don't like doing something that I can't undo easily. Perhaps one day when I'm a bit braver but for now the furthest I'm willing to go is around the leveling of sanding seams.

    4. I haven't tried any modding and I'm not sure if I ever will.
The thought of doing something that I can't undo scares me. :<

    5. Yeah, I feel the same way. I've seen some awesome mods, but I doubt I'll ever do something like that myself.

    6. I've done mods on every doll I've ever owned so far, even if it was just a little project like seam sanding. I've contoured faces, put new noses on, I did a FtM mod, changed lip shapes, done a LOT of nipple sanding (I can't stand it if I can see the nipples through clothing...it's weird and awkward to me...), I added magnets, changed joint shapes, opened and closed eyes, and very likely other things I can't remember right now.

I like modding and like someone else on the forum said (maybe a couple), the dolls were built to be customized and that's what makes them special for me is working off a base and then being able to create exactly what I want with them.

    7. I can change a shape of doll's nose or it's eye shape

    8. At first I, too, felt that modding dolls was scary. But then I dyed my Voch, and it was the turning point from "I think I ruin the doll" to "oh hey, this is fun". ^^ Now I have Istyros on WIP-stage, and plans to do some slight mods to Chandira and Shalunia both.

So, I can say, that despite the fears is beginning, I like modding the dolls: making them look just like I want is big part of the hobby, and modding takes that to whole new levels. ^^

    9. I don't have the skills to try modifying them. I would be too scared of damaging my precious.

    10. The greatest thing about this hobby is gathering the courage to learn a new skill though modifications, be it a grand leap or a baby step. Oh, and its scary as hell, the pressure is always on, but its the best feeling in the world when you succeed. That, and I feel its one of the greatest ways to bond with a doll as you place so much attention and love into it during the whole process.

I've only done one major modification to a doll, but I've dyed a handful of them to restore them from a very yellowed state, and each time I get the same surge of anticipation and anxiety, but I've never been one to let fear rule me in any aspect of life. I hope to someday invest in a dremel, though, and maybe then I'll be able to do even grander things with my collection!

    11. A picture is worth a thousand words.

      Mod-a-holic.

    12. I want to play around and mod my guys lips just a little bit but I'm a bit hesitant to do so. It seems like such a risky chore simply because they are so costly and some mistakes wont be easy to fix. I don't want to make that mistakes.

    13. Haha I also feel scary, so I do not touch the outside of dolls... instead, to get more freely movement, I custormise its tension.

    14. I haven't tried to mod my dolls and don't think that I will so, unless my doll gets damage and has to be fixed.

    15. I WANT to mod someday, hopefully in the not-too-distant future. Seeing how other people have taken those steps to further customize their dolls is so cool to me, and I just...I really want to try my hand at it. I know I want to do some additive scar mods on Rikka (and on Dita, once I get him a body), and I'd like to give subtractive mods a try at least once. It's just a matter of finding the time and materials to do so. And, of course, plucking up the courage to go through with the mods!

    16. There is literally not a mod left I have not done, I think? I've opened eyes, sanded seams, noses, faces, you name it, dremelled large amounts of resin out or off for posing improvements, FtoM mods...soooo many FtoM mods, scars, both painted and carved, faceups, body blush, tattooing, full body dye jobs, full body spray painting, tinting to match, yellowing to match, fixing damaged hands, bodies, heads...hell, I belt sanded a torso once, hacksawed another. Basically, at this point, resin holds zero uncharted territory for me.

    17. This winter will be a resin dusted haze of teeny, tiny saw blades hacking large chunks of LE dolls faces out to form a cleft lip, additive genitalia mod’s so leggings look more realistic than a small mouse being smuggled in them and a large stack of spray cans ready to turn NS into the darkest tan you ever did see. The majority of which will be performed by the talented stylings of the woman who has posted above me and will require the sort of respirator equipment that makes Halford's wince.

      Good times.

    18. I'm quite scared to actually mod my girl. I think it's the fact that I spent the money on buying her and the fact that if I mod her something could terribly go wrong and I would end up with a broken several-hundred dollar doll. Hahaha. I think for now I will just enjoy the way she is. (^-^)

    19. I modded my soom wolf human head eyes.. So it open wider...
I also modded the elf ear from luts even head because elf ear cant wear hoodie..
The others I only sand them to remove moldlines and reduce the yellowing..

    20. Sad and very scared. I recently damaged the face up of my Mystic Kid and was awful make a new face up on her.
