1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you feel about modifying your dolls?

Oct 8, 2013

    1. I haven't done any yet, but just from reading a thread on the customization forum I am inclined to do more minor mods before opening the eyes of my Real Puki Sleeping plate. First might be cutting the excess resin from between mu Soom Mini Gem's fingers. While I admire many of the more elaborate mods done on the forum, I don't plan to do anything more complicated than opening eyes.

    2. I want to have a go at modding a doll so badly, but I'm worried I'll just mess up. Maybe before I mod anything I'll buy a cheap/practise head, but really the sculpts would have to be almost perfect for me to want it in the first place.

    3. I shaved off a tiny bit of one eyelid on my Impldoll Eden cos it was slightly droopy and bothered me. And I sanded my Resinsoul Pi's chest to make it a little less pointy. I don't trust myself to do much more than that though!

    4. I am horrified of modding, but it's also something I want to explore. I'd only do it on "cheaper" dolls at this point, and that's what I've done. I modded open my Doll Leaves R's eyes, and I have an extra W head that I'm going to ~experiment~ on with fantasy parts. I got that head for free so it's a guiltfree experimentation xD I've also dyed off-topic dolls before. But that's about my experience with modding. I'm still so new that I have no confidence in my skills. But the only way to learn is by doing, right? (And tutorials) So I'm making it work.

    5. I am all for modding dolls, although I think rare limited dolls.. there's something timber said about not modding them. I see those dolls like a piece of art.
Anyways, I have mostly modified noses to have them smaller and cuter lol. My first experience modifying my doll went really well so I after that I am not scared to mod them, although they are not 100% perfect the outcomes have been closer to what I want my doll to look like

    6. To update from my prior response to this thread... I am in fact going all-out modding two dolls. And I didn't go cheap, either, they're both FairyLand dolls. I was a little intimidated when I started the first bit of carving away resin, but as I've been pulling the pieces together and getting them to look right, I've gotten more and more excited about the project, and more and more looking forward to seeing it done!

On top of that, I also did mods to the feet of two of my dolls; they represent the same character (in different sizes), who lost a toe to frostbite. So I sliced a toe off each one! Again, these weren't budget dolls (one's a WithDoll, the other a FairyLand again). I was definitely nervous about modding dolls in the past, but I seem to have lost that fear, particularly since starting on this heavy mod. (I am currently running a project journal for it here.)

    7. I've been wanting to mod my doll to have smaller/more closed eyes, but I need to figure out how to do it first :sweat

    8. I haven't done it. There is no power on earth that can make me try it. I know myself. I am a perfectionist and I judge the things I make harsher than any other critic ever can, therefore I know that I would hate my attempts. I like my dollies too much to risk hating them.

    9. When you start customising you thing they're perfect but in time, when you start watching new ideas and models, you want to give it a try and improve your work... I've done it several times and they're much prettier now!

    10. I have done this a few times. My favorite thing to do is pierced ears. I have modified a few because I have wanted dolls that are just not made. I have two Cardassians, 1 Bajoran and a Klingon. I try not to modify dolls that are limited or rare but I have still done it a few times. I have no problem with it If the companies don't make the doll you want then why should you suffer make it yourself.

    11. I was going to mod a head that didn't work out for the character I bought her for (my aforementioned Elfdoll Yuan, who already had her neck hole widened for hybridization purposes) and turn her into another Bajoran - the one I already have was supposed to be a test run, she doesn't really fit in with the rest of my crew, aesthetics-wise. Yuan does, but she's since been discontinued and that's making me hesitate. But right now she's sitting on the shelf being ignored, so modding her might be the better solution ... and she's the spitting image of the OC she could become with the mods. I should really grit my teeth and do it.

    12. I've done scar mods, cut off fingers, added elf years, painted, and resculpted parts to my liking. I'll pretty much do whatever in order to get the doll how I want it. Haven't ruined anything yet!

    13. I don't think I would dare do this yet. If I wanted to modify a head, I might just buy another head to do it on or something. If I wanted to do something with the body, I would probably buy a specific doll for modifying needs.

I don't think I would do it on a doll that was limited edition (if I ever get tempted to get one of those) since I wouldn't be able to buy replacement parts in case something goes wrong.

For now though, I'll just stick to getting a practice head for face ups and attempt to learn about stringing.

    14. I might have crossed the line from sanding to almost *g* modding when it comes to separating fingers/toes. I love it when I'm in the mood for heavy concentration. But that's not possible everyday unfortunately.

    15. Since. nearly half of my boys are very very fantasy base, they all will need some custom work done, finding the right person for the job is half the challenge :XD: but a lot og them will need it, they are not human after all :XD:

    16. I want it, but I'm afraid it will damage my dolls.

    17. I would consider it if I really wanted to do it. So far, there are no dolls I've wanted to do a really big mod to. I've made repair pieces before and done sanding and the like, but that's all I really feel a need to do right now. Most likely though, I'd send my doll to someone I trusted to do the mod better than I could... orz

    18. I've never done it myself, but I don't object to most mods. One of my second-hand dolls started life as a boy but she came to me as a girl. :) I'm not sure I'd ever mod a doll's eyes open if they're closed but then again, I've never tried or bought a head that had the mod.

The only mod I really don't like for some odd reason is ear piercing - poking holes in your doll's head just seems weird to me. It definitely affects my decision when browsing the marketplace but I'm just picky I guess.

I've seen some gorgeous skin colour mods - huge kudos to anyone who is brave enough to dye their doll!

    19. I love to modify. A lot of my characters have very specific looks that are hard to find in doll form. I've spray painted a limited head, did an eye mod, and done a few other simple mods.

    20. When I got my first doll I was too scared to mod her but she doesn't need any mods done anyway, but now I have the head of my second doll on the way I know for a fact there is a few mods I need to do to make her into my character. Ear piercings, maybe some sanding and i'm going to try and make a semi permanent stitched up eye mod (she has two open eyes) I'm a bit hesitant to close it up permanently maybe I will do it if the semi permanent doesn't work as well as I want it to.
