1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you feel about modifying your dolls?

Oct 8, 2013

    1. I pretty much modify all my dolls in small ways. Usually it's reshaping eyes, sanding noses or cheeks, altering back or hip joints, ear piercing, or separating stuck together fingers. I don't buy dolls that would require a lot of modding for me to like them though.

    2. I don't have a doll yet, but I can't imagine I'd be too keen on it.
Only because I'm not skilled enough, but if I knew what I was doing I'd be really up for it!

    3. I really want to mod my dolls..
      I'm scared to tho! :c

    4. It's definitely something I want to try in the future, because if you've got the care and the patience, something really amazing could happen! But practice makes perfect, and for sure, if you spend upwards of $400 on a doll, it'll make ya balk at doing anything permanent to them.

    5. I would love to modify my doll depending on what the modification needs to be on. For example, I'm all for piercing my dolls' ears, though it does freak me out a little. I know you have to be extremely careful to make sure that it's done correctly, but I would love to give it a try. Especially considering that there are so many nice earrings you can get for your doll!

Though mods like sanding or carving out detail would probably be something I wouldn't touch AT ALL unless I really knew what I was doing.

    6. I made a few shoe sizing mistakes when I ordered my first EID doll and when she came half her shoes wouldn't fit. :/ so, I ordered a second pair of high heeled feet and shaved and sanded them down to make them fit the shoes! Turned out pretty good if I do say so myself!

    7. I love the idea of making permanent modifications- and scared witless at the idea of messing up. If I decide to go for it, I'd like to buy a cheaper doll or 2nd hand and practice on that one first before I try the doll I really want to modify. Practice would give me the confidence I need so I don't freak out and mess up too badly.

    8. I'm eager to mod but scared to. I've already purchased things I'll need for it, but I keep putting it off.

    9. I have the supplies to mod, but I'm too scared to start. I need to make my boy's eyes bigger. He's a sleeping head with a preexisting mod that opened the eyes, but I'd like to change the socket shape. I'd feel terrible if the process goes wrong and I end up ruining the head, but I'm having a hard time staying interested in him as is. I've watched a few modding videos that make it look easy, but I imagine it'd be kinda nerve wracking. Guess I'll find out soon enough!

    10. I'm scared to even think about modding my doll!
I have enough body mods for the both of us :sweat

    11. I don't see myself EVER modifying my dolls. I feel like what's the point of buying a doll if you don't like everything about it? Personally, I don't see the need to.

    12. I haven't done it yet, but I'll probably do it someday!

    13. At the beginning, I was scared about it... but, finally, I decided to change the face up of my doll and to do the body blush... And... I loved it ! :)
For me, it's the better way to live my hobby for bjd !

    14. I wouldn't modify my dolls personally - I'm not a good sculptor as it is, and I cannot wear masks that cover my lower face (bit of a big problem there). I have, however, modified a 60cm Obitsu head, little different from resin though. I'll probably pay someone with more experience to mod my resin dolls ^^;

    15. I have modified them by giving some piercings but I probably wont do that again, I would probably have them sent out if I wanted something drastic done.

    16. My feelings exactly. I'm not confident I could do it without messing him up, plus to me, he's perfect just the way he is.

    17. I am a dremelhappy fool!

    18. Modding isn't necessarily about thinking the doll isn't "perfect." Sometimes it's bringing in some quirk of a particular character that doesn't--and wouldn't ever--exist in doll form. (My two frostbitten boys, for instance.) Or sometimes it's about the "perfect" doll just not existing at all at the time, and finding one that's close enough that it's perfect with some slight mods is the best we can do. (My elf-eared LTF, bought when no elf-eared LTFs existed.) Or maybe it's about getting the closest option from the marketplace. (My two "rescue" boys with eye opening mods.) Or maybe just about taking on a challenge. (My automail mods.)

I would never have said any of those dolls I've modded weren't "perfect." I loved them all from the day I got them. But I have 9 dolls I've modded in some way so far, and each time it made them more personal, more identifiably "mine," and I have no regrets on a single mod.

    19. Oh yes, me too!

    20. I probably wouldn't want to touch my Grail dolls although I'm interested in modding my other dolls. I actually got a modded one from an Australian BJD'er which I plan to mod further.
