It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you feel about modifying your dolls?

Oct 8, 2013

    1. Nervous. I don't know how to do any customization myself, so I would have to send it out to someone (unless I wanted to learn). I had someone local customize my Too and I was very happy with the result, but I was able to see his progress in person.

    2. I’m too much coward. All my dolls are chosen carefully to don’t need changes. Sometimes black heads need faceup (I pay for it) and the common hybrids are my limit. (Wish I could find a good tattoo artist to paint a black/red dragon in my yokai lord).
I would never buy a MOD except this guy: https://www.flickr.com/photos/eviexm/14744647723/in/faves-94193184@N06/
If this head goes for sale I will go crazy for sure. :drool

    3. I tried to take a male body and mod it into a female. Aside from it being flat chested the body itself was too chunky for what I wanted out of it. So even if I could manage to make it bustier I still wouldn't have been pleased with it at all.

    4. In theory I love the idea of modifying dolls, it helps create something unique, but in practise I know I'd be too scared to try it. These dolls are so expensive I'd never forgive myself if I ruined one.
I might commission someone skilled to do it for me though.

    5. It depends on what I am going to do to my dolls however, I am planning to try a female to male mod and sanding down some muscles on one of my male dolls. ^ ^
I find it really terrifying both having to depend on myself to do the mod right and also preventing the resin dust from harming me because even though I am wearing a mask I still don't really trust it and also my lack of confidence if I really did checked to see if I did everything right (with putting the mask on). I get nervous easily and don't really trust myself but I think mods are really fun and something worth trying. ^ ^

    6. I found it cool, because with modding you can have one special doll for your own but i will be thinking too much if i want to mod something in fear i can destroyed.

    7. Scared out of my mind.

At this stage I still consider myself a newbie in the world of BJD and I'm slowly learning more and more. I don't think I could succesfully modify a doll yet but I'm quite interested in projects that involve modding. I haven't had the need to change any of my dolls permanently though.

I would find it wasteful however to modify a limited edition sculpt if they aren't available as a basic sculpt as well. I know the decision lies with the owner of that specific doll but still...

I hope to someday learn how to modify and get over my fears of damaging a doll. I'd love to be able to do basic things such as opening a closed sculpt's eyes.

    8. I am terrified to do any kinda mods ;A; I really wanna add plugs to my dollies but I have no idea where to start and I'm scared I will mess them up forever..

    9. Even though modding a doll can turn out really awesome I just could never see myself doing it to my own doll.
Maybe if I had a junk head I would try it. :sweat

    10. I love to modify my dolls. But I do nothing too heavy! I open eyes, close others, add scars, mod mouths by adding teeth... this type of things.

    11. I was scared as well. Scared that I might mess up my doll, unnecessarily. Once, I took the plunge though to open the eyes of a SP Mnf head, I was surprised as to how easy it was.

    12. I'm definitely still a mod addict.

    13. I love modding. As long as you work slowly its not so bad. And it makes your doll a little more unique & special in my opinion. The same way that other customizations like faceup/styling/hybrids do ~^^~

    14. I jumped into modding fairly quickly... I originally ordered a Delf El (with the dreaming head), decided I wanted the dreaming head to have his own 'personality', and shaved the eyes open some. I also sanded down the nose and chin on my El a bit after that. I've also done ear piercings, opened eyes on sleeping heads, and just bought some Apoxy sculpt to practice elf ears. I guess it doesn't phase me! :)

    15. When I had cheaper dolls I found it rather fine and would do it often myself. But nowadays, having a few limiteds/unavailable-anymore-s I'm not so tempted... I mean, what if I screw sth up, you know? :)

But I do remember my first mods (nose job etc) going pretty well... Inthe end though I was never satisfied with the doll, so I sold it. Nowadays I think that unless it's perfect-perfect, then I'd just lnot buy it at all.

Also, i'm not sure if I like when people mod LEs:)

That being said - I'm still curious what your doll looks like now, @KisakiSama, because it sounds like you know what you were doing (I didn't always know lol xD) Afterall the special thing about bjds is that they're *costomisable* and why not to make a use of it? :)

    16. when I first started looking for dolls I bought with no intent on modding. I am not very reliable when it comes to completing projects so I try to limit them. I do have plans for a future doll purchase that will require some heavy modding though so I am not against it.

    17. Modding sounds scary. I've done only one very very minor mod. I sanded down the nipples on one of my girl dolls because they stuck out a good few millimeters! I'm not artistic at all lol! So if I tried to do anything more complicated than that, it'd be a disaster. But I don't think it's bad to mod even if you have no experience. Gotta start somewhere. I also think it doesn't matter if a doll is limited edition, a mod would make it even more unique!

    18. Small modifications'm good. They sometimes need. Three of my dolls put stoppers, two open sockets to the eyes got better. I never wanted to modify the doll.

    19. I love some of the mods some people have done on their own dolls. I'm open to the idea but knowing nothing about what to buy or how to go about doing it scares me.

    20. I love modding! :D But I am a crafter and actually got my BFA in crafts so I guess that comes with the territory xD I'm not really afraid to mess them up because I know I'll be able to fix them even if I do.
