How Do You Spoil Your Doll(s)?

Apr 21, 2023

    1. Usually buy getting them things that are just theirs - whether that's eyes, wigs, clothes, or accessories. Things that I wouldn't shove in the 'communal wardrobe' or prop box when not in use, but stays with that particular doll. In the case of one of my tinies she gets exclusive everything. She doesn't have to share a thing, and also has her own roombox, where everyone else has to share shelf/table space.

...and of course the tried & true - buy ur doll a sibling/friend :sweat:lol:

    2. For my dolls, it's definitely clothes and wigs. Some are just for them, others they willing share. And I guess a few dolls got spoiled by me buying them a friend/soul mate. But it's definitely clothes haha. I am trying to get them more props.

    3. I just like to pose and cuddle them. I have definite favorites lol

    4. I have favorite dolls that I spoil more than others, but because the only "free" thing I can do with my dolls is giving them faceups, I tend not to be able to spoil my dolls as I'd like. I try to give them all equal amount of attention, but buying accessories means being really choosy and inevitably my favorites get more than the others.

    5. I fell out of the hobby for a few years, but I’m getting back into it now and making up for lost time. My dolls are currently spoiled with plans for houses/dioramas they can live in, friends (of course), and in some cases if I find spare (human) jewelry in my collection that will work and I will let them borrow it or “give” it to them. One of my dolls came with ear piercings and now she wears a pair of gold filled studs I wasn’t using :sweat

    6. Their outfits are more expensive than my own outfits :sweat

    7. Same here! while the spoiled ones are my vinyls so far, I think soon that will definitely change in regards to who I like so spoil! :)

    8. I like to think I ‘spoil’ my dolls in many ways. I make sure to give them attention with photoshoots, clothes, shoes, etc etc, and try not to make any of them “feel” left out. Right now I’m especially keen on building all of their individual wardrobes. I also take turns in bringing one to hang out with me when I sit in the living room after work (currently it’s my brand new Crobi Nia with me!). In passing I also tend to fixing their wigs, looking after dust, and overall making sure I “acknowledge” them as I pass through on certain days. I might’ve been influenced by my love for A Little Princess in respect to dolls, but in truth I really find a lot of comfort in them, and also have invested a lot in them as well, so I want to make sure I respect that.

    9. The spoiled ones get the professional faceups not done by me. Or expensive wigs bought just for them.

    10. I've made her a bed and found a cute little dresser and screen for her at an estate sale. She has some tiny plushies. She's yosd size and I found that micro squishmallows are the perfect size for her! She has a bunch of little knickknacks too. I've basically created her own little room on my bookshelf.

    11. I used to bought a new outfit for my oldest doll every two years. She is a dollstown Soph B in tan skin (the one in my avatar). But last year she got a girlfriend, ahaha! A dollstown Elysia in ebony skin, that is perfect for beeing her lover!
I also buy quite often new fabrics for outfits for my younger oni girls. I used to buy kimonos for the whole oni family but now I feel like it's better if I sew them myself (even if it's not as beautiful).
My other dolls are neglected in comparison!

    12. Thrifting for fabric sounds like such a good idea, glad I jumped down this rabbit hole. I've personally been window shopping, trying on our fits in my head till the little suckers get here. I hadn't really planned a style perse, just loved the sculpt and figured I'd work around it. Definately been saving face ups on IG for inspiration to give them the best face ups I can.

    13. I spoil my dolls a lot but mostly with outfits, wig ans accessories. Not so much with furnitures and such, because unfortunatly I dont have enough space to do so, and also because I like to move them around the house, change their spots regularly so dioramas are not very suited for that kind of display. :XD:

    14. I buy my dolls tons of clothes!
      And make them some, too!
That's mostly all I do, haha.

    15. I try to hold them as much as possible! Carrying them around the home with me throughout the day. Also, ordered custom display bags to carry them outside! During market trips with dolls, I always get lots of compliments. Definitely like to stock up on clothes for them too!

    16. Trinkets. So many trinkets. Miniature Squishmallows, food items, weapons, and repurposed 'furniture'. Adding details to outfits with tiny beads, chains, charms, and pins. More clothes than they would actually wear because I like to choose a Main Outfit and that rarely gets changed. -with one exception, it's fun to do Holiday themes for one of my smaller dolls but the rest pretty much dont get touched.

    17. Couldn't have said it better myself! I am also a compulsive crafter, and making clothing for my dolls is one of the main ways I show love. I tend to make more clothing for my mature 1/6ths since there's three of them and I will often lose focus on other (mostly larger) sized clothing projects (I like when they can be finished in one sitting), but I'm slowly working up the confidence to work on everyone else's wardrobes.

I also show my adoration to my favorites by carrying them around with me and taking photos of them. I love bringing dolls with me places, especially when there's good photography opportunities, but they also just provide me comfort when in public. I feel less alone and anxious if I have a doll with me. I really enjoy spending time with my dolls in a more general sense. For example, I enjoy setting them up next to me or even holding them while I work on other hobbies. I like to think that spending quality time like that makes them feel appreciated, too.

    18. Oh, yes. I have mostly mature minis and a few mature tinies. While it's much easier to get nice details on the larger dolls, the fact that I can make a LOT of stuff for the tiny ones before it starts to take up any space to speak of makes it a bit more guilt free. I could easily have filled up the house with stuff for the dolls, if I didn't restrain myself at least a little bit.
I try to make sure the majority of the stuff I make is things that will actually be used and not just things I want to make for the sake of making them, but it's not a fool proof system. :XD:

    19. You make an excellent point! I’m a perfect example of the dangers here…I got into this hobby as an excuse to explore fashion to my heart’s content (and boy, did I!!!):doh Since 2006 I’ve slowly been collecting and creating wardrobes for all sizes. Today I have dressers and shelves just dedicated to wardrobes! I can’t complain though since it’s been so much fun and a fascinating learning experience along the way. But wow, my dolls are so spoiled and I’m running out of room!

    20. Those look gorgeous! I have yet to acquire a resin doll, but I will someday soon. With other types that I have had in the past, I have taken them for walks or road trips on free days. I have been on the lookout for mini stuffies for a potential future doll! I have not found anything of super high quality yet, but I am still planning on spoiling them with one someday.
