1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How does your family react to the hobby ?

Jul 31, 2011

    1. My family thinks that this is a stupid way to spend money, but they can't fight the curiosity and come ask things about the hobby. My stepdad even tried to help with improving the poseability of my doll, and I think that's sweet.

    2. My mom and sister think there is something wrong with me. My mom always wants to know why. And for some reason finding out that they have more than one outfit and that I might have to dress them freaks my mom out more than anything. She asked today if it was because I dont have a girlfriend...like I get some sort of perverted pleasure from them. Makes me want to take a break from bjds so i can save money and get out of here so I can fully enjoy them.

My recently acquired addiction to MLP hasnt helped. Strangely enough though my mom took that better than the dolls. fml lol

    3. Well the thing is they wouldn't mind so much if I put this much effort into buying my own clothing. I would pick comfortable clothes over pretty ones, but for my dolls, it's all about the prettiness. XD

    4. My boyfriend (I'm living together with him) thinks this is a strange hobby with a lot of small, curious stuff like rements or little clothing-stuff. But he totally accept it as "my expensive hobby" ^-^
Nearly every boy reacts like this...that's ok ^-^

My Mum likes my dolls! Secretly she wants one, too! Her comment was something like "Those dolls are really pretty! I want one, but they are too expensive just for putting them in a shelf ._. "
And she's laughting everytime when I'm saying creepy things like "I have to order new eyes" or "The body is crap, I think I change it"

    5. When I got paid for my first job, my instant thought was, "Ah! I can finally buy a BJD!"

So, I did, and THEN I told my parents about it... When I did the obvious "That much for a doll?!" Was asked, but I told them exactly why it was that much. They didn't agree with me, but said it was my money, and I can spend it however I wish. Which is true!

I'm hoping they'll like her when she arrives.

    6. My mom actually wants one now. Muahahaha I have converted someone. My dad and brother are both very interested in my stories, wigs, clothing etc and my boyfriend thinks "awwwww your so adorable for liking dolls". LOL.

    7. I wish I could convert my parents! It'd be so cool if my family were into the hobby. I don't think that'll happen though...!

    8. I live by myself but am very close with my mom and brother. They're sort of used to my unique obsessions at this point but I was still expecting a fair bit of flack for starting to collect bjds. To my surprise, my mom seems curious and totally non-judgmental! I don't think I'll be sharing any time soon how much I have and PLAN to spend on them anytime soon, though...

    9. My husband is somewhat creeped out by dolls, but finds some beautiful, and collects anime figures himself, so it's not like he could say anything against it... XD lol
He's also a huge Star Trek fan like me, and any dolls I buy/put together are likely to be made into Star Trek characters, so he's interested and curious. :)

    10. I love that your dad collects anime figures!!! That is so cool. My boyfriend loves anime figures so he is majorly supportive of BJDs!!!
My mom thinks I'm crazy though. She doesn't quite get it but is still supportive haha.

I love that BontanyCameos does Star Trek dolls!!!! That is soooo rad.

    11. My husband considers that it not the correct investment of money. But some dolls and to it very much are pleasant.

    12. My little sister is the only relative that knows about my dolls. She's just kind of like, "Eh, whateves. It's her hobby." and doesn't think much more about it. We don't get to see each other much, her living 700mi away from me so dolls usually aren't even the subject of conversation when we get together.

    13. So far I have told a few members of my family about the doll. My sister said that he was creepy and my mom doesn't really seem to care. I told my grandma about the doll and she seems thrilled about helping me make clothes. I didn't tell any of them how much money he is. They would keep bothering me that I shouldn't have spent that much money.

    14. My husband thinks the hobby is really cool. My parents and siblings think I am a bit weird, however. I don't think any of them really understand the appeal, but I have always collected dolls, action figures and other toys, so it definitely was not as crazy for them when I started with bjds...I think my family has kind of come to terms with my collecting and love for dolls. My mom seems interested in them, especially the amount of customization involved. I think my dad thinks I am insane sometimes though. He always thinks it is weird if he sees photos on Facebook showing my dolls posed in scenarios or showing off clothes I made and things like that.

    15. They dont know how expensive are. They are ignorant in this matter and would never understand.... thats why I cant make my dolls arrive to my house sigh..

    16. I would add more. I dont think people here have parents more worse than mine. If they would know the price of one of these dolls they would become totally mad with me! But my parents are not normal, are those kind of parents that use violence and also still spank me if they dont like what I do! And Im not even a child anymore! But as I said, I dont think someone have bad parents like mine, aggressive, rude against everything I like! So i have always to lie them. My mom asked me the price of my dolls, and I always said 30 $ ! She dont have idea so she thinks was the right price! Really she almost was starting to say 30 $ is expensive for a doll! D: if she would know the real price, would insult me forever and tell me that Im totally crazy (as she already think about everything I liked)

    17. My family is a bit shocked when I say I bought a doll in SD size with particular, only my father is supporting me and helping me in ordering my doll.
When it arrived with a blank head, they like to tease me with jokes like it will move at midnight, or kill me like those horror movies. Lucky that I don't see the same way since I feel the doll is very beautiful, especially after longing for 3 years to have one.
After I done faceup, now they comment it cute which make me happy :) But I have to limit or my family will get angry after spending a lot just for a doll in their opinion

    18. Even 10 years later my mama still likes browsing for dolls with me. I think is goes along with the idea that I'm always going to be her little girl =^.^= haha…. My dad on the other had understands having a hobby, but I think they kind of scare him. I find this funny though, because he is a very manly, man. And I have the idea that my Dad shouldn't be scared of anything. My brothers think its odd, but they get it. Saying "Oh that's just you", and chuckle. Outside people on the other hand, Ive only met a handful over the years who understand.

    19. My mom understands because she used to be a doll collector as well but porcelain. She is not super intrested but she loves what I do with my girls, the boys not so much.
Dad doesn't really care and for him I think that is the best response I can get.
My friends are actually very acceptuable about this hobby. Two of them are actually thinking to get one of their one. The only thing that is holding them back is the price for one.
The boyfriend actually knew about them so yeah. He has no opinion about them either.

    20. My daughter got me into BJD's, so she is on board, big time! My husband thinks it is expensive for our daughter, who is out of college, but still not gainfully employed. He will like it better whan she can pay for her own dolls.
