1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How does your family react to the hobby ?

Jul 31, 2011

    1. My parents doesnt like it too, but they will try to understand my hobbies these days. Im getting really really lots of stress from my work and my dolls only give me happy.....

    2. They pretend to think I am a bit crazy but they inspect my dolls carefully and ask many questions about them. Bet they would love to own some dolls themselves LOL

    3. I needed to sort of formulate and argument/reason why I should use my money on expensive dolls. Other than that, I never mention the price and just use the term expensive. So long as I can support myself and they see me working towards what I said I would, they're happy to see me having an outlet.

    4. My husband supports me and he has his own doll

    5. My husband thinks it's interesting but doesn't really read much into it. He knows I collect a lot of things including anime figures so I think he feels it's just like a big action figure XD My Mom wouldn't understand at all, especially if I were to tell her the prices of said dolls. My Dad would just be like "ooookayyyyy" and move on. It wasn't my first hobby or my most expensive XD I also cosplay 'fulltime' and for over 10 years I was a competitive Irish Dancer. THAT was my most expensive hobby. I also played Club Soccer for 10 years and that was pricey too but all my hobbies have or still enrich my life, which you can't put a price on imo. :)

    6. My parents support the idea of me buying one (or even more) but not exactly financially. Through time, they got used to my dolls and when my mom saw YoSDs, she herself wanted one.

    7. My family is a bit...weird about it?
My husband calls them creepy, but frequently encourages me to get more/find cute stuff/etc and even goes into the doll aisles to find accessories for mine
My mom is a bargain hunter and generally supports it, though she doesn't like how expensive they are and will do a sort of "you paid how much again?" thing when I get a new one or chat about modding
My dad thinks I'm a child but he can go...y'know
My stepmom tried to get into faceups for vinyls and doesn't really understand the differences between her fashion dolls and my BJDs, but overall she's alright about it
My sister (12) makes fun of me till there's no tomorrow XD

And my friends don't know because when I mentioned them once, they all got kinda creeped out

    8. My parents think that I'm weird, well, everyone think I'm weird, in all of my interests, but my mother says "Your dolls are pretty, I like them", and it's the most important words for me. I like it, and this is MY hobby. That's why I never react on "SELL THEM ALL THEY ARE TOO EXPENSIVE AND STUPID!1!1!!!!!!1"

    9. I've not yet purchased one, so I'm "windows shopping" a lot right now. My husband accuses me of ogling over pictures of "alien autopsy dolls". He generally supported me... even admired several of them... until he saw photos of them nekkid and/or dismantled. Now they're all aliens to him. Hehehe ;)

    10. Well, my family thinks it's too expensive, otherwise they are not interested.

    11. I think my dad's family wrote me off as weird ten years ago, so they just humor me when it comes up. My mom's family dotes on my sewing skills and how pretty she is.

    12. None of my family knows. And if they found out about it, I probably would never tell them how much they cost. >.<

    13. Haha my parents are so weird, they actually didn't react much.
I was asking my dad to help me with fixing the s hock and stuff, but he just.. didn't ask anything, and my mom comments on them (like oh you are playing with your little dolls) every time she sees them but that's it.. funny <3 I just started this hobby one years ago, but they act like they already get used to my dolls Lol

    14. My interest to BJD came so suddenly, and I was lucky to pull my mom into the obsession. (Thanks to Enchanted doll actually! ^.^)
My Dad is actually supportive too because he thinks its a good way to make money when I start my business making clothes and other products, and knows my creative prowess, and the artistic potential.

      But everyone else is like....
What?! You spent what?! YOU'RE DOING WHAT?! WHY?! HOW?! WHY?! WHAT?!

And although its nice to have some back up, its so hard to explain what is so captivating. Why I'm interested. How can I explain to them that this is a strange passion of mine?

    15. My parents think they're too expensive, but my sister is in the hobby.

I've never felt a need to explain my interest in the hobby past "Because I like them." Why does anybody like anything? We just do! :)

    16. This is the best title for any BJD collector i must say i can tell you when i herd BJD since '06 when i was in high school that time so i was doing all my research to know what this BJD b4 u know it i buyed the book and started to be very hook up like ...LITERALLY and ever since then i made a promise to myself when i work i save it up to buy my first one and i did i don't let down what i promised trust me :D (not only that i too my high school counselor and fan too were like wtf too much mullah and blah blah and why spend amount of money to buy a certain doll that cost money (of course anyone that see this precious :P doll would be like o is like barbie bono hun once they look at the price is a a BIG NO!!!

    17. Very true. I just don't try to explain it too much I think, but I want other people to understand my excitement! I think there has to be a lot of people that spend their money on a lot of different things, that might be weird to other people. Its not the dolls mostly, its just the money that they freak out about. But what's the difference between spending that much on another hobby?

    18. At first everyone was surprised when I had my first doll
I don't think anyone liked him at first
Then when I got my other dolls my mom complained about them
Well until now she complains about them but it gets better by the years at first she was scolding me about the money now I think she cares about them ^^ because when I decided to change my furniture into small basic ones she was asking "then what will happen to ur dolls?it's their place?" Haha

    19. My family thinks its nonsense and a waste of money. I generally say they cost around 100 and even then I get a lecture about how that's way too much for a doll. .. Ah, well.
