1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How fast did your collection grow?

Nov 13, 2019

    1. I literally just started collecting! I didn’t know about BJDs until recently. Needless to say, I was amazed at the seemingly limitless options for character creation with these dolls, and purchased a tiny which I am still waiting for. But I couldn’t wait to get her, so in the meantime I bought 2 resinsoul mini girls from a shop who had them in stock, and now have my first 2. One came with a faceup, and I’m working on her body blushing and making her an outfit. The other is a basic, on which I just started doing the faceup. I’m really excited about developing these two characters and will post photos as soon as they are done.

    2. I started collecting just last month, and now I have 2 on layaway and another one on the way . I know for sure I would probably get another 2 fantasy ones, just depending if I see the right ones! :dance

    3. Mine grows by leaps and bounds. Sometimes I don't buy any dolls and then all of a sudden I find three or four in a row that have been on my wishlist since forever...
I wish I could say my NY resolution is to buy no more dolls, but the moment I say that, DC Jodie will pop up somewhere. (Hmm. Maybe I should make that resolution and try for a bit of 'reverse Murphy's law'??? LOL!!)

    4. When I first joined the hobby I bought a SD and was so in love. Then the following year I bought two SDs and three tinies, thanks to a lot of budgeting and layaways. After that I've limited myself to one doll a year, unless something amazing pops up on the market place. It's so hard to limit myself with so many amazing dolls out there. :)

    5. My friends start this hobby at 2008, which is my first exposure in the doll world.
Spending few years for researching and graduating from university, I own my first doll in 2013.
I have difficulty to make decisions. Thats why there is only one newcomer in a year. My recent collection number is 9, 7 at home and 2 are processing. In between i sold some of them and refill with new dolls.
I feel busy to take care of so much dolls.
I will put some on sale list.

    6. My pace has been on average about one a year, and even that seems to be slowing down. I am relieved to find that I am quite picky. Also, I don't make a ton of money besides. I have only 1.5 left on my list, but that doesn't mean much. Inevitably, when I get it down to one doll or less, another hops onto the list!

    7. I've had my only doll for 6 years now so it's... not growing ;_; Well I got a Dal this year though, and I love her, but I'll have to wait till around mid 2020 to save up for my second on topic doll. I'm already getting her some clothes.

    8. I brought my first doll home in January of 2016, and I currently have 18 full dolls and 4 floating heads, so...fast. Too fast for comfort, especially when I fess up that almost 90% of my collection was bought during my first 2 years in the hobby. My only dolly purchase in 2019 was a mystery bag with a head and 2 sets of eyes.

At this point, I can’t imagine buying another doll even though I have some on my wishlist that are perfect for unshelled characters. I’d like to eventually buy a few bodies—I always feel a bit bad for my floating heads—and I plan to redo a few of my dolls, but those are my only doll plans for the future.

    9. 2005 is when I started...grew super fast. Didn't buy any for a while then got back in....I own over 200 bids.

    10. In my first year, I got five plus one extra faceplate (I'd meant to just do one, ever). The next year was about the same, completing the faceplate with a body, four more full dolls, and two heads (and maybe a body for one of them then? I can't remember)... ultimately, if I count in the dolls that will arrive shortly (before my next hobby-versary at least), and the very few I've sold, it's roughly kept that pace of a little less than five per year on average.

Not in reality, though, thanks to a long break and a couple of splurges, but on average it works out.

    11. I've bought so many dolls this year! Well, last year technically. I only started collecting in January! It's been a year and the collection has grown alot, it's so hard to not buy more since I have a job LOL... I should be saving XD

    12. I group bought my first 2 dolls with another hobby member around may/june of last year. I recieved them in october. I also recieved a 3rd and 4th doll about a week later. I ended up also doing a group order with the same person to get the the Rudy moose antler rerelease. So I bought 5 dolls in roughly 6 months. I have my eyes on four more I'd like to obtain by the end of the year. I've been working so many extra shifts but I gotta slow down since I'm moving this year

    13. With layaways, I’ve managed to bring home roughly 3 per year since 2006, which has been a nice steady pace for my budget. It sounds pretty good and responsible, right? But it can really sneak up on you over the years. Once my 2020 layaways are finally paid off, I’ll have 39 BJDs! That means it’s time to finally slow my roll because I’m running out of space. I’m way too much in love with my crew now to ever give any of them up, so I really need to think long and hard about buying new resin.:...(

    14. It grew too fast! I started out with two Elfdolls, Lydia & Red, yes, at the same time then quickly acquired big Narea & Narin, Luts tan Lishe, tan El and a number of others. No, I'm not wealthy at all but I sold most of the rest of my doll collection & bought BJDs. I only collected 1:3 dolls for a long while, then got into the slim minis & finally 25cm tinies. Over the years I've sold most of my collection, it was huge, waaaaaaay too many dolls. I'm still culling the herd & have bought my last doll for a long while. Finally content with just what I have.

    15. Slooowly. I got my first doll two years ago, sold it after 6 months, and after other 6 months my actual boy arrived. Now I am paying a layaway for my second doll ( or third if you like). I am sure that she won't be the last. I don't know when will I buy another doll, but that's sure that my one doll happiness is over.

    16. I was at zero last year this time and i'm up to......6 plus 1 in customs and 2 on layaway. :')

    17. I got my first bjd in 2016, and went through 4 dolls 2016-2018, but only ever had one at a time. But 2019 I somehow went from one doll to now having seven :sweat

    18. I've been collecting since 2005. The only doll I have from my original collection is my Volks Shiratori, because she's literally so limited I have to fly to Japan in order to get one. I'm gonna be honest, I have a really cushy job for my graduate degree, and my collection has sort of exploded. I went from having around 9 to 18. I sold ones I wasn't into and got my hands on ones that I've really wanted over the years and never thought I'd get around to getting. Totally and completely worth it though.

    19. My collecting (if it can even be called that) is extremely slow. There was YEARS between my first and second doll, and years before I bought any more. Probably because I have long periods of time when I don't even touch or think about this hobby at all, then suddenly it's everything I can think of.
I still buy dolls only when I know what to do with them and - uh - 'who they are'. It's slow but suits me nicely. I like to spend more time with the characters than their dollshells

    20. Fast. I think I discovered BJDs in February 2018 and the next month I bought my first two (the one I'd originally fallen for because a perfect one came up on the second hand market, plus another from the same artist that I loved). It's now a year and ten months on and I have five human dolls, five small creatures and two on order.
