Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How Important to You Is It That Your Doll be Absolutely Unique?

Mar 28, 2010

    1. it's not super important but I do want her to be unique and not "just another F-01"

    2. as far as the doll mold, no. that doesn't concern me so much as my doll looking like someone else's, wig or eye-wise, for fear of being called a copycat or whatever.

    3. It's not that important to me because I know that I am very different myself so that will reflect on my doll. I think it's silly not to buy a doll because someone else has it. Like MNF Chloe for example, everybody and their mother owns a MNF Chloe but I have seen her in so many different looks and styles. I don't see the problem with it as long as you enjoy the doll.

    4. I'm not really bothered by it.
I think that the style of each doll, the combination of face up, eyes and wig as well as clothing makes them unique in their own way. especially if the face up is custom made by the owner, because everyone has their own preferences.
If I look at two dolls of the same mold with different faceup, eyes and wig, sometimes it's hard for me to tell it's the same mold.

    5. ;v; I'm perfectly fine with having a popular/common doll mold. But then again, I wouldn't get that sculpt if I didn't feel that I could put my own unique spin on it. If I felt like if I bought a certain sculpt and made a character for it and it wouldn't be at a certain level of uniqueness then I just wouldn't buy that sculpt. But I don't know, maybe its just me, but it seems kind of silly to be upset if someone else has the same sculpt as you. Especially if it is a basic doll that is readily available.

Dolls- for me -aren't just something to make look pretty or cute, they are a reflection of my creativity. Its very important for me to challenge myself to think broader every single day, so having a doll with only a small amount of thought or effort as far as unique styling/customization/interpretation is not something I can let myself do. So yes, it is extremely important for my dolls to be unique to a plausible extent. I don't mean they have to be mind-blowingly original and a completely foreign concept, but original to the extent that I feel I've shown a different perspective.

    6. I could really care less about the popularity or the uniqueness of a sculpt, what's important to me is what I make the doll into. This hobby is all about customization so even if a thousand of the same sculpt existed I doubt they'd all be the same. Yes, it's nice when your doll is truly "unique" but that's a subjective term, what really matters is how the person who bought the doll feels about it. I trust my dolls are unique because of the characters they represent and the effort I've put into making said character a reality. Everything else is secondary.

    7. I look at it this way... the mould lays the foundations for your ideas, what you build on top, is what makes them unique.

Think of it like a blank piece of paper, each one the same, but what goes onto that paper, is what creates the unique piece of art.

    8. Same here! :)

    9. My doll does not have to be unique whatsoever.
There are just too many things that can be changed on a bjd, with the right tweaking, you will definitely not be able to tell that two sculpts are the same.
Honestly, I don't care at all, I guess it feels good to have "one of the only", but if that stuff is really important to you, go make some pottery, I don't know.

    10. Since i only get dolls to shell OC and non OC characters, i am more concern with whether or not I can see my characters in said shell and faceup it myself as oppose to whether or not my friend has the same doll. At the end of the day, it boils down to the personality of doll as given by the owner. My doll is my canvas..

I have 3 pairs of dolls using the same head sculpts but different eyes and hair color from each other. They share roles and clothing but not personality

    11. I couldn't care less. If someone copied any of my characters exactly, I'd simply block them so I could avoid reading their posts, and mind my own business. If anyone had a super similar looking doll, but clearly had their own character for it, I wouldn't be bothered at all. It's not like there aren't plenty of people in the world with similar features, including hair and eye colours. And I know I've discovered certain wig colours or styles because I've seen other people using them, so it would be hypocritical of me to try to deny that to other people.

    12. It's not a big deal to me. I think its awesome when I see someone have the same scuplt as me. Everyone does something different. I am about to buy a limited Full set from Bambicrony I would more suprised to see another owner then upset since she is limited and I havent heard of anyone i know ordering the adorable tinie. I dont think its about the scuplt that makes a doll special but how you style it and customize that does. A kid delf kiwi with a lolita look will look different then a kid delf kiwi with a tom boy look or a gal look. you know what I mean

    13. I really don't care if my dolls are unique or not so long as I like them.

    14. I don’t care if everybody could buy dolls like mines. I like when everyone can have the best chosen dolls and we can trade photos. :)

    15. Not a big deal if my dolls are factory default, but I do enjoy the idea that they have something unique to them when I get an artist to paint them. It makes them a little closer to art and makes it feel like they were made just for me. Plus I like artists' aesthetic better anyway.

Example: I have a Minimee that came from a batch of 2 with a face up by my favorite artist (who no longer does face ups) and on a discontinued body, making him the most unique doll I've ever owned. However, he is not my favorite of my dolls.

    16. Nah doesn't matter to me. Besides since most, if not all company BJDs are hand painted no doll is an exact match anyway no matter how small the difference.

    17. It's not important to me at all for my gals to be unique in terms of sculpt or faceup, seeing as how none of them are. ^^;; They're standards or limiteds but in all cases have the default faceup. Actual individuality comes from how they are dressed and how they relate to one another, rather than their factory settings as it were.

So.. yeah.. I don't understand the desire to have a 100% unique doll unless you made it from scratch yourself.

    18. The Group Order politics is a little extreme, and I agree that most of a doll's individuality comes from eyes, wig, clothes, etc. That said, all things being equal, I do find myself gravitating more and more to unusual or lesser-known dolls. I don't feel the urge to spring for a super-rare sculpt; rather, I tend to look more into smaller companies (as long as they get good reviews).

    19. I got a full set doll, not LE, and she will be here soon. I don't mind that others will have the same doll and outfit, I wanted her to be dressed right away. However, eventually I plan to use some other combination of clothes that will make her more unique and more "her" as we evolve along together. But I like the outfit she comes with.

    20. honestly I dont really care since i get default face ups anywawy and buy clothing sets.someone is bound to have a doll like mine. lol I personally think its cool when someonelse has the scame scuplt as me then i get see my doll in a different light its very fun for me XD
