1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long and How many?

Feb 20, 2024

    1. How long did you take to finally get a doll?
I'd say a decade or more; I first found out about BJDs in middle/high school when I was poking around DeviantArt. I was more into sewing plushies then and wanted to find more about it, but kept running into doll groups with lots of BJDs! Their articulation intrigued me (these were the days before MTM Barbies after all). But being a high schooler without any source of income, I was just admiring from afar. Let's say this was around 2009-2012.

I got back into dolls some more during college, but again, not a lot of cash to throw around! So more Barbies and all that. After college, I got a tech job (not even one all that high on the pay ladder...) and did more experimenting with customization on thrifted playline dolls. I promised myself that after I paid off my student loans, I could get myself a BJD to celebrate.

I don't remember how I came across Impldoll, but I found their Avery in... mid 2020? Silver lining of the hell that was that time was the pause on student loan interest; I blew through my payments with that goal in mind and purchased my Ara in January 2021! And then I saw Seed Arts was putting stock Wol heads up for sale the month after and grabbed one that became Nova. Got the head a week later, Ara a month or two after, and Nova's body that fall. So I have two "first dolls!"

How many dolls did you get after a year?

Five - four of which are on topic for DoA. My tastes stayed pretty cheap until I was introduced to Black Cherry Dolls...

      How many after 5 years?

Fourteen so far! Hopefully not gonna increase all that much more. Storing everyone's clothes is as bad as storing the dolls themselves...

      How many in 10 years?

      Not there yet!

And if you've sold how often did you find you sold? (1 out of 5 dolls, 3 dolls total ECT)

Out of fourteen, I have one earmarked for sale to a friend when they get the chance. I impulse purchased a Resinsoul Zhen and even though she's a perfectly lovely doll, I just couldn't click with her.

    2. So, to provide some cursory answers—all of these are subject to memory issues, because as a person with ADHD I have 0 concept of time.

I took virtually no time to go from wanting a doll to having a doll. I was an impulsive teenager, and layaway existed. I ordered on impulse after breaking up with and then making up with my really horrible ex. Yes, I spent around $800 USD over a breakup. I was 17, and working 16 hours a week. It was bad. I don’t regret it though.

after a year, if my memory serves me, I had 4 or 5 dolls, which was the most I was able to afford with my part-time job, spending literally every cent I made.

5 years would put us in 2020–in which my collection ballooned because I was sad and it was COVID, and I was selling old dolls to afford new dolls. Old photos would indicate I had 22 dolls by November of 2020, and there were definitely dolls on order then.

It hasn’t been 10 years yet, that comes up next year, but after 2024 I will have 56 dolls, which, I never thought I’d crack 50, truth be known, but I solidly don’t mind being over 50 at the same time. I’d say I’ll never hit 60, but I’d be lying. I definitely will. I’ll hopefully never his 100, but that’s where I draw the line.

As for sold dolls, I’d have to check my PayPal, but that wouldn’t even include trades. I’ve sold an absolute ton of dolls. I’ve traded probably almost as many. I’m ye olde revolving door collector, so I sell dolls like that’s a second hobby. I’d conservatively estimate I’ve sold 50-60 dolls, heads, and bodies. I wholly rebooted my collection in 2020, and sold most of the dolls I owned at the time to fund dolls I wanted more, because I got out of an abusive relationship, and I no longer wanted the characters I’d made with that ex.

    3. How long did you take to finally get a doll?

Within, I think, 6 months of finding ABJD.

      How many after 5 years?

      Seven, I think.

      How many in 10 years?

Twelve in the first decade. Then I took a seven year break, roughly. Then almost twenty more.
