1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long do you wait before getting a new doll?

Jun 2, 2013

    1. That depends on how much it took me to fall in love with another mold and save money for that;)

    2. I usually wait for the first doll to arrive and then I give it about a month before I start thinking of buying another doll.

    3. I'm just like you, Enredadiza. I try to put a month of cush between one doll coming home and then ordering another. I like to have a little bit of time to enjoy each doll as the newest in my family before bringing another home. In addition, I won't bring home a new doll until the most recent dolly purchase is completely paid off (whether layaway or credit), or (preferably!) until I'm done saving up for the new doll. That helps me space out my orders even more.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with doing it any other way! I'd love to bring home two dolls at the same time someday! I'd love to have dolly twins, hehe! :)

    4. Yes! I feel the same way Pixachii! And I would also love to be able to buy two dollies at the same time. Maybe when I win the lottery, hahaha.

    5. Just ignore this answer... I've got newbie splurge syndrome.

    6. For me, I can't stand it if my dolls doesn't have their own pairs. So it won't be long for me to buy another ^^; the quickest one is I buy this guy then a week later I buy one for his pair...well, just call me weird...

    7. Hello! I've been searching for a thread like this, but couldn't find it. Sorry if it's out there:sweat

Anyway, how long do you usually wait? What were your longest and shortest wait times? I have enough money, but not enough willpower T_T

    8. I don't have a rule and I really can't remember. In general I try not to order a new doll when I'm still waiting for another one.

I do write down the arrival date so I know that I got my Minifee just one month before my Soom Yrie and I also got one head on the same day.
My waiting times go from a few months to one year, of course now it's a bit longer since I'm getting a new one and the last one was from four years ago.

    9. Difficult to say. When I first joined the hobby back in 2007, I noticed there was a pattern of waiting anywhere from 2-5 months between purchases. But then, after a couple years, it began to trickle off a bit and really slow down. Now, I just recently received a new doll body after having been on a little bit of a hiatus of 3 years, and now I'm waiting on her head to complete her (so about a month between when her head arrived and her body arrived). I admit, I'm now feeling the itch to complete my collection now as I am actually quite close, but I'm going to hold off a bit and continue to take my time.

    10. I don't remember what the LONGEST period was in which I didn't buy a doll. Probably several months. My average of dolls bought per year used to be three so that would make it an average four months. The SHORTEST period I've ever bought dolls in was two dolls in two days earlier this year ...

    11. I don't quite know as I don't have a rule... sometimes it may be months in between purchases, sometimes mere days. The fact that I have three layaways running at the same time as well as two preordered dolls doesn't help either as it makes it seem like I bought a lot of dolls at once when really it's just them accumulating over time...

    12. That depends on funds and whether there are dolls I even like to buy. Sometimes I buy two dolls in the same month, sometimes there are months in between purchases. ^^

    13. It depends on whether there's something on the wishlist available, whether I can afford it, and whether I'm waiting on something else to become available, really. The longest period was for a couple of years, while I was on a break from the hobby, and the shortest was about 10 minutes, if that. :sweat (Orders from two different companies on the same day!)

    14. As long as it takes me to save up for a new purchase

    15. Honestly, I have no rule or period of time, because it depends basically on savings

    16. I havent bought a doll in over a year now. The last one was a trade I guess its been longer. However I started this hobby like I do every hobby, with a buying frenzy. I bought 8-9 in the course of a year. But I've definitely gotten a handle on it since then. This years tax return may see an end to my doll buying hiatus lol.

    17. I'm the same way, it just depends. I have two layaways right now and last year there wasn't a month where I wasn't waiting on a doll.

    18. When I first started, I bought four dolls in the space of 3 months (3 in the space of a few weeks!). I've since slowed down a LOT, and I went about 3 years between ordering new dolls (I bought one doll in 2010 and then didn't get another until 2013). I did buy three dolls between last August and now, though... two in December/ early January. Whoops... but so much of it depends on what catches my eye and what I can afford. I knew I was going to buy a Luts doll at Christmas, but I was not expecting my other wishlist doll to show up on the MP for a good price. Couldn't pass her up a second time!

    19. I have had two long breaks in buying dolls. The first was May of 2008 until March of 2010. Then I took another nearly two year buying break soon after that.

When I fall off the I am not buying dolls wagon, I tend to get two multiple dolls in a short time frame. So despite the fact that I had nearly four years of down time, I average one doll for every ten months that I have been in the hobby.

    20. So far, all of my doll purchases have been instigated by sales and/or availability. I purchased my first three dolls roughly a month or two in between orders. The first was on sale and retiring. The second and third are only available on a monthly rotational basis and I was uncertain when the company would have them for purchase again. Otherwise I may have waited before buying those two.

I have plenty of dolls I would like to purchase, but I have been waiting to buy them. Ideally, I like to research a doll to be sure if I really adore the sculpt since face ups can be deceiving. Some sculpts also lose their luster for me over time, so I get a better idea of which dolls I really like if I wait a while before purchasing.

Also, I have been trying to get my current dolls to a comfortable state of being, with face ups, wigs and clothing that fits the visions I have for them. I don't like to buy too many new dolls while I have 'unfinished' ones sitting at home in boxes. Despite this mentality, if a doll I am after presents itself at a good price, I would be prompted to make a purchase regardless of the state of my current dolls.
