1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long on average do you take to complete a Doll Project?

Sep 2, 2022

    1. That's my fear! I also prefer to get my projects done ASAP since I tend to lose interest quick but seeing how its going already there's just no way. I already adore my dolls but I'm definitely going to need to be patient.

Can't rush art after all and since I don't have the wonderful skills of eye making/wig making/sewing etc. I'm just gonna need to hold tight. I'm excited for the day they're complete though! :D

    2. I’ve been in the hobby for over 14 years, so apparently my need to keep moving and changing hobbies doesn’t apply here! To help speed things up, I usually shop for eyes, wigs and clothes while waiting (unless the doll is a very unusual size and needs custom clothes). This way, I can put the doll together as soon as I finish the faceup and blushing/tattoos.

    3. To find the right person to do the makeup is the most time consuming part for me, the longest time I waited for is more over four months. I just lake the talent for this. [TAT]
But the ortherpart like clothes\eyes\the props for taking pictures can preparie before my babies arrives home, so it saves a little bit of time.Trust me, the wigs are the easiest part to make! And... I use tattoo stickers(Is this translation correct?) instead of body painting.
In fact most of my dolls will never be 'done' xD, I like to change clothes according to the season, like we live together like real humans.

    4. I don't even know really... I guess I'd have to find a definition of "complete" that would work for me. A lot of my dolls sort of evolve over time as their character develops. Some seem to sort themselves out quite quickly, while other are still not fully fleshed out years after I first got them. I mostly stopped guilting myself over this some time ago... mostly,

    5. That's brillaint!!! Thank you for the suggestion! I'll have to remember this when purchasing from a maker.

Currently all my first BJDs have been purchased from the secondhand market so getting them tends to be the quickest part. But then it's all the steps after that take me forever :sweat

    6. I understand that entirely!!! Every doll having their own personality some stagnate and some change.

I tend to do the same with my characters where they evolve as I do over time or on their own even (my dolls are based off characters from my own illustrations/comics so they evolve alongside them).

@Teddy Like you mentioned I could imagine it'd be amazing fun to have not just one look but a wonderful wardrobe to change your doll into via seasons/events! Then you can change them as their personalities evolve. I've been trying to cobble together a small collection of items already anticipating this.

    7. Buying secondhand is usually when I try to buy clothes and accessories secondhand too, or in stock from dealers in my country. :XD:

    8. Once you start getting multiples of dolls within the same size-range, the process becomes easier as you have some wigs and eyes in the right size on hand to try on new dolls to help narrow down what you need to achieve their look.

    9. I never complete my dolls, but that's part of the fun of it :D Always got some goal with them. I get to a point where I'm happy to show them off on the shelf, but even then there's things I want to change or tweak.

    10. I still don't know. I'm seven years in and with 43 dolls and my first doll still has mods I need to start and finish in order for me to call him complete. I have everything I need to get started...

    11. 43 Dolls! Wow that's amazing!!!! :D
Yeah my first doll still doesn't have shoes and a wig, literally the last things I need for her to be entirely complete. Not even really difficult things to find.

I've been too busy trying to hand sew something for my newest girl at the moment whose not even close to complete. I couldn't tell you why either :sweat

    12. So far, as I'm revamping my entire crew, out of 18 dolls... NONE are complete, and some are going on two years of having their new characters. :doh

    13. I don't complete my dolls. I generally get them to a point where they seem complete (If I'm lucky, sometimes they're blank for a long, long time) and then move on to something else, and mess with all of them when I'm in the mood. The dolls I can't find anything else to do with (aka "complete") are the ones I get bored with and they sit on the shelf and collect dust. Or I take them apart and do something else with them (which is my new version of selling them off).

Complete for me usually = the right combo of head/body/faceup, hands I like (either jointed, multiple options, or just really nice hands), a couple wigs for those that wear wigs, the right hair for the ones that just have hair, eyes I actually like that fit (I am lacking in this department currently), several outfit options per doll with shoes and socks, hand and foot blushing at the very least, full body blushing is preferable even though it gets dirty and damaged I still love how it looks as apposed to a blank body. Accessories depending on the doll. Right now I have one doll that meets most of these, and he doesn't count because he's my favorite.

    14. At least 4 months for me usually. Waiting to get the right faceup artist is always the longest part. Then waiting to win the lottery sale from a specific dress seller...:atremblin:atremblin
