How many dolls do you usually take to a meet up?

Jul 10, 2009

    1. For me, it always depends on the meet (what type it is) and just how many I'm willing to lug around. I have mostly SDs and... they're heaaaaavy. XD; I've gotten good at arranging everyone in one of my rolling suitcases, but it's big and sometimes just too much of a hassle to drag around. At the very least, though, I'd bring four--with one of them being a Pukisha, so he's almost too small to count. XD

    2. For me it's pretty much what tha_queen_of_chaos said. I used to bring as many as I could safely stuff in my suitcase, but these days I'd like to be able to watch the dolls I bring to a meet up after a few times of people undressing my dolls without asking. The undressing is not the problem. The not asking while I'm sitting at a stone's throw distance is what's unpleasant.
Maybe it's because after a while I became more reserved handling other people's dolls (much less "OMG dolly!" *touch*) and started to appreciate people who ask first instead of just touching and reposing a doll.

To pick nick meet ups I bring two and maybe throw in a tiny and to meet ups at someone's home for which you need an invitation I sometimes bring more. A lot of times I bring my newest doll and a request doll or just bring my favourite.
For second meet ups with the same people I try to get a different outfit if I bring the same doll, but I don't always want to or can't always do that. It starts to get silly when I think I can't bring a doll to a meet up, because that doll has nothing new to wear. ;)

One other reason not to bring many dolls is that I usually like to talk to people and take pictures of other people's dolls. This way I don't have much time to spend on my own dolls and why would I drag 5+ heavy dolls to a meetup only to do nothing with them and drag them back? Even when I have a meet up at my home I don't bring all my dolls to the living room, but that's because I have many and there needs to be room for other people's dolls too. People can always ask if they can see doll X or Y.

I like seeing other people bring a lot of dolls and I don't see it as bragging (unless they are bragging about how many they have), but I sometimes wonder how they can keep track of them.

    3. At the meetups I attended, I don't bringt more than 2 dolls with me. One reason is because all my dolls (except for my dollzone bunny) are 57cm and up. I simply can't bring a lot dolls with me. Too heavy and they don't fit my trolley.

But I also have a 2 doll maximum so that I can keep easily track of them. I don't mind others taking pictures of my doll at a meetup, but if I would take, say 7 dolls with me, that's a lot harder to keep track of where which doll is going.

Also, I usually bring Yelena with Skittles, because I am very proud of them (they are my favourite) and they are 57 cm, which is easier than my 70 dolls. ^^ Sometimes I take other dolls with me, depending if there is a special meet-up theme. Like with the theme "Pink", I will take Varushka.
I don't think I would take my limited dolls to a meetup. I am too afraid that they will get damaged.

I don't know which dolls I would take if I would meet the same people again and again. Maybe I'll bring different dolls then.

I don't mind others bringing lots of dolls with them. I don't really consider it a show-off. :)

    4. I usually only take two dolls with me (one when it's a convention). It's such a hassle to bring more dolls and they are heavy. Besides, just like others in this thead I like to keep an eye on them. It's easier to do that with two dolls than four and a half.

    5. Well, for the moment all I have are tinies, space and weight aren't a big problem for me, so at meets I end up taking everyone. I guess it depends on where we are meeting up, like at a Con, I'd probably only take one, since one easier to take care of and I'd rather be enjoying myself, than worrying about all of my dolls.
When I start getting more (or larger) dolls, carting everyone to a meet and back could become a hassle so I might slim it down to take only my newest, my favourite and a puki. xD

    6. For local meets I bring all four-two SDs and two MSDs. I've currently got a scrapbooking case on wheels that holds all of them. There might be room to jam another MSD or a couple of tinies in there, but nothing else. Don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by leaving them behind! So long as I can figure out a way to carry everyone safely, I'll probably bring all my dolls. If I get too many, I'll bring the ones that have been neglected recently.

I haven't done conventions or the like, but I'd probably only bring one or at most two to something like that. Seems you have to be much more careful at those.

    7. Just one. :)
Then again, Adelheid is my only doll.

Should I ever have a large collection, 5-6 would be the maximum, and definitely not all SDs either. However that is speculation. I have another doll on the way, but I am very far from having a sizable collection.

    8. It maybe a bit random for me to post here-- because i only have 1 doll and it's either bring him or don't even bother to go to the meet xDD

      But i do have plans in the future for another (as Clavis's brother) and i think then i will TRY to brin them both, depending on their behaviour or status (faceless, unstrung etc) i might only bring one ^^;;
I am one of those persons who thinks that the doll who gets left behind would be so poor, and just HAS to be fair and bring all

    9. I don't have any good, safe bag for dolls yet so I wouldn't take more than one. The smallest or just a head preferred ;) After I get a carrier-- still one, I quess, since I only have one pair of eyes XD

    10. I've got 3 dolls right now (2 MSD and an SD) and I bring them all. Since they are family to each other, it would feel a little weird to me to leave one or two at home. I am intending to purchase another doll shortly (and if fortune favours me, one more as well) and at that point, because I rely on public transportation to get to the majority of meets, I'll have to decide which dolls to bring with me.

    11. I take one big one and several tinies, usually, unless someone asks me to bring a particular doll.

    12. In the past I took all of my resinkids whenever I went to a dolly-related event, but as my doll family grows I'm finding it difficult to lug (let alone house o.o) all of them at once. I'm actually going to a meetup at a convention tomorrow, and two of my nine (it's a good thing I have tinies in that number! o_o;; ) elected to stay behind. But since I'm going for both days of the con/meetup I might switch it up a little and give everybody a Dolly's Day Out. That said though, usually, for some reason or other, at least one of my dolls just doesn't seem "up for it," and I get the feeling that they wouldn't mind being left at home to relax all day, or something. XD

    13. Depends on the meetup: where is it held? Indoors or out? Will I have to walk around there? What are the photostory ops? Will it be crowded?

Believe me after you've packed around a 7 pound EID, a 70cm DZ and a couple MSDs you start to evaluate your personal weight restrictions!

But if we are going to a park with a covered pavilion or a coffee house or something of the like, I'll bring the whole crew, just cuz I CAN!

    14. I take one. Dolls are stressful to carry around all day.

    15. Depends on where the meet is and how much I feel like carrying that day. I never bring my whole crew, as that would be impossible, but I have brought 3-4 to a meet before. (And complain the whole way.) One or two is optional and easier on the back. :)

    16. I don't bring all because I can't handle the weight and I can't look after them at the same time.

So I'll bring 1 SD and 1 MSD(1 and only MSD actually). That way I can see where each doll goes.

Due to certain circumstances, I find it hard to trust other people handling my dolls. Therefore, I won't bring all of them.

      :sweat

    17. In general I tend to take 1 doll bag's worth of dolls. Meaning, however many dolls I can get into the bag, and/or feel like putting in the bag.

If I go to a convention, I get to my room, and unpack the dolls (still just one doll bag's worth). Then I usually just carry 1 around, sometimes 2. If there is a doll meetup at the convention, I may load them into the doll bag and bring them all down, or just however many I can carry.

Now my friends usually do about the same, they however will tend to bring 2 doll bags worth of dolls. (Then they also put alot less dolls into their bags then I do.) I tend to get 4 SDs into my one massive doll bag, so they will tend to have 2 bags, with 2 dolls in each.

Then there is the rare exception to the situation. Such as a recent meetup, we were requested to bring as many dolls as possiable. So I brought 2 doll bags worth of dolls, and carried one doll as well.

My friends in 2008 brought ALL their dolls to Dollectable, and that was ALOT of dolls and alot of work. I will never bring all my dolls somewhere, because I simply just have to many of them, and not enough doll carriers (because not having a carrier/some where to put the doll for safe transport isn't wise). So I keep track of which doll I brought to what events, just so I can bring different dolls each time, or so different dolls don't get neglected.

    18. Depends on where the meet is.

For local meets, anywhere from two to all. I have a wheeled scrapbook-y thinger that I can get three or four into (they have to get friendly) so I can cart that around without killing my back. I don't have to haul them all day, so it's no real trouble to take all five if I feel like it.

For traveling? Three MAX, and that includes my mini. Two SDs. The max I can fit into one doll bag, and that be it. I tend to not cart dolls around randomly at conventions, they come out for meets and that's it.

    19. Well, I just have the 1 SD, but I haul along a little OT Doll cause she gets soooo much attention...she's quickly becomeing a requirement for entry for me LOL....so, right noiw, just the 2

    20. Depends on the meetup. Outside, walking around, I brought one, but another member had one of mine since she was painting him, so left with 2. At someone's house, I might bring 4, 6, something. At my own house, I had all 30-something out! Normally, just one or two.
