Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How many dolls do you usually take to a meet up?

Jul 10, 2009

    1. So in general it seems that its a combination of different factors that infuences the number of dolls people bring.

      1- location

      2-type of event

      3-size of dolls

      4-Doll luggage availble

5- What you are going to be doing at event or meet up.

      Did I leave any out?

    2. Travel distance.

    3. Basically, you should do whatever you want.

If you do wish to please others, why not post your question in a thread about the meetup--such as, "I have doll X, Y and Z--does anyone have a preference about what I should bring to the meetup?" Sometimes someone will request a particular doll.

But really, it's up to you.

It's nice to please others, but really, you can't always do things to please others, so you might at least please yourself!

Or do you want to see all the dolls a person has in their collection?
If they want to bring them, fine. If not, that's fine, too.

Or would that be in bad form ,like showing off? But isnt that what we are there for to see each others dolls?
I don't think it's showing off. As you say, meetups are for showing dolls...

Or do you only bring your newest doll?
Hahaha. NO. I mean, I have too many new dolls, but I don't have new ones just to bring to meetups. Sometimes they are not ready to go (not the right eyes/wig/clothes), sometimes I want to bring other dolls, sometimes there's a theme and the clothes work better on some dolls than others... Besides--I don't want to only focus on my latest dolls! I like my older dolls, too, and they deserve to be shown about and taken to meetups, also!!! But, of course, it's Up To You. Bring the newest if you want. Bring whatever doll you feel like!

I only ask because the way I was raised it would be like I was showing off. If someone else brought a gangload of dolls I would be like "Cool! lets see them!" but for me personally I wouldnt want to seem like a show off not to mention have to lug them around.

Not everyone is raised like you. I wouldn't worry about it. If you don't want to haul a mess of dolls around--DON'T.

Edit: and what about the second meet up with the same people? Do you bring only one doll with a diffferent look or ?

Whatever you want. Or whatever you think they'd want. But there are no rules. People are different everywhere, so you'd have to just go with your particular group and your own feelings about them and about what you want to bring. It's really not important. I guess I've just been to so many meetups that I'll just grab a doll (or dolls) and dress them in what I think they should be dressed in for the meetup (and most meetups are different--at least here, where there are all kinds of meetups and people change from group to group), and I try not to over-think it since it never is that important...

Upcoming meetup will be at the San Diego Comic Con--so it's a big, impersonal convention, not really a small group of friends meeting, although I'll know people there. It's too big and busy a con to haul a lot of expensive dolls around, and I'd like to keep an eye on my doll just in case, so only ONE doll, and probably not a tiny, which can be easily stolen... Not sure what doll or dress I'll bring yet! Something that I think may appeal to someone who would go to Comic Con, I guess!!!

After that, probably the Royal/T meetup, which as a CandyLand Game theme... I'll have to not bring too many dolls, again, because it's a crowded party with lots of strangers and there's a theft risk. And the doll needs to wear something appropriate... So probably a doll that would look cute or lolli??? Not sure...

But really, it's up to me, since it's impossible to predict what others will think and I'm going for my own fun anyway, not for anyone else...

My last meetup (Artmaze DollHeart meetup), I brought three dolls all wearing DollHeart. I mostly had to choose the dolls that would go best with the outfits I wanted to show. I usually don't bring more than two dolls, since it's a pain to haul them, as you say. I also don't want to damage my dolls, so two is usually the most I can handle carefully...

But really, it's up to me, since it's impossible to predict what others will think and I'm going for my own fun anyway, not for anyone else...

    5. If I had more than 2 dolls I'd probably still bring all of them :'D Depending on how many bags I would have to carry. When I get two SD I'll probably end up just bringing the SD and not my MSD girl since...I dunno. I don't think it's showing off. You're there to socialize and enjoy other dolls and if you like bringing all your dolls and everyone else likes seeing them then why not? :)

    6. I'll bring them all (the ones with bodies) if I have some sort of carrier, and it's a sit-down sort of meet. If it's a walking type of meet, usually it's only one or two. Two SDs in my arms can be difficult though, since they don't always cooperate. If I can sit them in each other's lap they're a bit easier, but two can get heavy when you're also trying to manage a camera, purse, etc.

I don't worry about 'showing off' in our group because we all love seeing everybody's dolls. The new ones get fawned over, no matter who they belong to. As long as no one's got the 'look at me' show off attitude we're all cool with tons of dolls.

Besides, having all of them in one place makes for great pimp shots. ;)

    7. Generally I bring 2 or 3 but if I'm taking tinies, a whole herd may end up going. It just depends on how many I feel comfortable with packing into the carriers.

Now when a friend & I give programs on BJDs, I jam about a dozen or so of different sizes into my 3 carriers. Each will fit 2 SDs comfortably with some MSDs & tinies packed in around the sides. I wouldn't take this many to a meet-up simply because there isn't enough room where we meet to display them all.

    8. I usually bring all 3 of mine with me. Soon I will have 4 because a Soom Glot is on her way to me. Also...I plan on buying 5 or more Pukis to keep my other Puki company. And I also plan on buying 2 Minifees. And will I bring them all to a doll meet-up? YES!!! ^_^

    9. if i had alot of dolls i would bring most of them. at the moment i only have my one msd, and another boy all in pieces undergoing a slooowww mod process in to a robot boy. so i dont really feel he is ready to go out yet o_O

    10. it really depends on the situation and where we are meeting, but i will bring anywhere from 2 to...er...all my dolls. srsly. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=297695
ok obviously theyre not all mine XD but all of mine where there (minus one but it was for complicated reasons).

i love to see everyones dolls, all of them, as i like to bring mine...the more the better! for the longest time i had dolls (and for the most part still do) that no one else in the area has and its nice to have a variety and since i can add to it, why the hell not. i dont consider it showing off, and if it is, who cares? isnt that why we're in this hobby to begin with? to enjoy our dolls, our friends dolls and see new and different ones? off course i dont always bring them all...it would kill me. but once or twice is kind of fun <3

    11. So people with tinies then seem to bring just about all their collection if its tiny only?

    12. The most I will bring is 3 and sometimes I don't bring any.

One sd and two smaller ones are about the limit I feel I can wrangle myself or want to carry.

    13. For me, it really depends on the meet. I'm car-less, so I rely on public transit. The further or more difficult my commute, the fewer dolls I bring. I don't think I've ever brought more than three or four - two SDs max at any one time. I brought three with me to a meet in another province, and that was pretty much my limit, I think. I used to bring two to conventions, but it just gets too cumbersome, so now I just bring one if there's a large crowd of people. Less chance of someone getting broken that way.

I don't think that people who bring them all are showing off. They're just far more capable of toting their resin kids around than I am - and I kind of envy them for that.

As for who gets to go - usually if there's a new one or one who has a new faceup they go. Then I base it on who hasn't been seen in awhile. If it's a themed meet, I consider who I'm actually able to keep in theme with as minimal amount of sewing as possible.

    14. The most I've taken with me at once was two SDs and that I'm never doing again. So heavy! So from now on I'm only taking one doll at a time, unless it's tinies then I might consider two at the same time.

    15. To me, it really depends on the meet-up.

At a regular meet-up, I prefer to bring just one of my dolls. I find it easier to control, and forces me to socialize.

If I just hang out with my BJD-friends, I bring up to two dolls if I know I won't have to wander around for too long. Normally, I leave the choice to my friends, or to my personal mood.

All in all, I never bring more than my back can handle. Health is way more important!

    16. So far I only have two msd size, so I would take both.
But if I had more it would depend on what i planned on doing at the meet. if I could have them displayed on a table or if I would be carrying them everywhere.
If I'm carrying them around in my arms (not in a carrier or anything) ... then I would probably only take 2 at the most.

    17. The majority of my dolls are in the 60cm+ range. Generally when I go to a meetup I'll take two maybe three dolls. I figure if I'm going to be attending those meetups with regularity then eventually everyone will get to see all of my dolls at least once ;)

And if someone (myself included) DID decide to bring their entire collection I wouldn't see it as showing off, on the contrary those folks definitely know how to share hehe :D

    18. I usually bring two or three because that's how many I'm comfortable wrangling, though I've been known to bring more. It depends on the meet, and how lazy I'm feeling.

I'm definitely not opposed to people bringing more dolls or less dolls or what have you. The only limiting factor for me is what you're comfortable carrying and keeping an eye on.

    19. Edit: and what about the second meet up with the same people? Do you bring only one doll with a diffferent look or ?

I like revisiting other people's dolls, Pegapup and Britt both have dolls I like seeing again, so I am happy when they bring them meet after meet--it's like seeing friends again, and sometimes they have new wigs, clothes or faceups we can squee over. It's nice knowing some of the backstories, too. So don't worry about "boring" people with the same dolls..we like them too;)

    20. You brought up another point in the number of dolls one brings, public transportation. I hadnt even thought of that.
