How many dolls do you usually take to a meet up?

Jul 10, 2009

    1. The last meet up I attended I brought four 60 cm and they were pretty heavy, another gal brough a couple of her large ones and a lot of msd size ones. I can see how the smaller ones travel better.

    2. I wouldn't bring more than one doll unless I could make someone else carry the rest (or ALL of them). This is entirely based on the fact that I hate dragging stuff around with me. I don't carry a purse, hate wearing a backpack even to school, and severely underpack for every trip (usually leaving important clothing/toiletries behind). I only have one doll at the moment, and at the last meetup I attended I constantly foisted her off on my fiance. I dislike like carrying things.

Additionally, I rely on public transportation for at least a large portion of my trip. Even if I can borrow a car from a family member to get to a hard-to-reach meetup, I have to head to that family member's house via public transporation and bring everything with me. I live in the city; they all live in the suburbs. Even if I had several nice, protective carriers, it would still be awful to travel with more than one; the trains and buses get crowded and it's just plain uncomfortable to travel that way.

However, I love it when other people bring as many dolls as possible! At the first meetup I attended one collector had an amazing assortment--some small, some massive--and it was SO cool to see so many dolls! I wouldn't think someone was being a show-off--I'd appreciate that they took the time to trek out to the meetup with so many things to carry around; it must have been a hassle.

    3. Whew... this is one of those interesting questions ^.^
Like so many others, it depends on where I'm going. Or more accurately, how often.
If I'm meeting with a friend, I'll usually bring 2 of my big boys, plus my DZBB Derrik, who goes everywhere because he fits in my hoodie pocket. I figure 'hey, this is a friend meeting. it's going to happen often, so I'll have a chance to bring all of my boys in turn'.
Once a year though, I hit Anime Expo: And all the boys come. It's a challenge, (3 70cm boys, 1 60cm and 1 42cm) mostly due to weight and my limited number of arms (only 2 you know!) but I make sure to pack them all up into a very friendly rolling case and haul them out to any and every meet I can find during the con. I would feel guilty if I left any of them behind.. it's only once a year!
For the random in-between meets that happen sporatically, I would love to bring them all, but due to a weird atmosphere the last couple of times I've been to an in-state meet, I've limited the amount of work I'm willing to do. usually 2-3 of the boys. ^.^; this is gonna get harder when the next two boys get here.

    4. well I only have to. so i would take both.

If I had more (wich I am getting) I would take as many as I could. Or just ask the people wut dolls they would like me to take.

If it was an anime con; no more then 2. I would have to be walking around with them for 2 or more days. So it would be hard.

    5. I've never really been to a meet-up where I could bring my whole dolls..... but I did go to a Con where I brought my head (That now as a body) and my tiny =D

I would bring both of them to any meet though.... they are only 2 so its not really a bother =D

But If I ever get more I would onyl bring one... and maybe swap them depending on who I meet =3

    6. My limit is two, maybe three? Three only if I just feel that on that day I don't want to leave anyone behind. xD If/when I go out with dolls I just kind of think about which doll I brought last time, so I bring the other, to make it fair. xD And of course I bring my newest dolls places, just to see how they act, react, and deal with 'the world'. <3

    7. I've only been to tech. one meet-up, but it was a work-day.. and I didn't stay long. But in the future, I'm sure I'll only bring 1-3 (depending on size) Probably newer ones or my oldest (Mitsu) <3

    8. I usually don't bring more than 2, but that's mostly because I only have one carrier bag. I think that I wouldn't want bring more than 3 though...

    9. well I've not been to a meet up yet, but I'm sure when I do I'll only be able to manage one doll, possibly 2 :)

    10. All of them! It helps that my largest has only ever been an SD...and even now, my largest is MSD sized. The rest are so teeny tiny that I can tuck them in wherever there's room. XD

    11. I usually try to bring one...

But then, right before I leave, I look at the bag. And go, "well, Rat's already in there, so I should just bring him and Jay Say... Well, Lir's Ro-Ho-En bag isn't that much bigger, so maybe I should bring that one too. Plus I can pack more stuff in it... Well, Mistoph's already in that bag too, so I kind of can't leave him..."

And end up bringing two SDs and two Littlefees, and anything else I can stuff in the bags.

      I'm a horrible overpacker. xD

    12. I would only bring two, but that's because that's the maximum that would comfortably fit in my carrier and I'm not bringing two carriers without an assistant of some sort. I'm only counting MSD or larger of course. I suppose I could bring that count up by including some non-BJD smaller ones...

But even two is too cumbersome for me. I feel the need to fuss with them to get them to look perfect and packed perfectly so it's just too much trouble. I also can't comfortably hold two (i.e. "babysit") while doing something else. I'd feel happiest just bringing one.

    13. I was wondering this question as well bcuz I have a meetup coming up and i havent seen anyone in a couple months and I have added....5 since then, well to be exact the 4th boy boy was getting his face done and then I had a couple of doll "accidents" lolz.

I deff will bring at least two of my MSDs and two of my Sds but anymore I'de feel like I was...overpowerng every body elses Dollie showing off time...I dunno I'm kind of reserved and not an attention person so I wouldnt want to have to introduce them and explain wher ei got them and that Ionly could get them cuz I found some kick arse deals on here but yah...I dunno

Four would be good, five borderline, 6 I would be like Uh...you cant see these dollies!

    14. I must admit when I'm bringing Troop Tiny that I overdo it but so far haven't brought the entire collection of them. Last month I did take 7 of them along with one SD.

    15. Max I'd ever take to a meet-up is 4 dolls period, here's a few examples of how I'd round it out for my max; 2 SDs, 4 MSDs or 4 Yo-SDS. Or else like this if doing size mixes; 1 SD, 1 MSD & 2 Yo-SDs or 1 SD, 2 MSDs & 1 Yo-SD.

My normal is 2 MSDs though, such as for in house meet-ups or resturant meets where space is somewhat limited. I don't want to overcrowd, but I do like to have more than one hanging out there so there's more likely to be a doll someone is interested in seeing and in case I get isolated out I can still get my girls together for some cute pictures and hope the rest of the group warms upto me in time. :)

    16. I'd love to see all the dolls in everyones collection, but i can understand how that it can be difficult/stressful to carry around so many dolls and the anxiety of possibly hurting them by hauling them around. Tthough I dont think it would be showing off because it gives everyone a chance to see so many different types/molds and if they want to bring them the more better~

I personally would not want to bring too many dolls, just because i'd be paranoid of loosing them or their things.I'd also like to socialize with people and take pictures so having less would make that easier. Then again i'll only have one so i suppose it makes it easier for me ^^; if i do get a second doll, im not sure if i'll bring them both. I guess it all depends on where/when the meetup would be. If its at a convention i may just bring one just because i also cosplay and it would be hard for me to carry everything and i would rather not risk hurting them.

    17. Ive always been of the opinion that 3 is enough at a meet , i feel like i need to be taking care and watching out for them ...and more than that and its too hard .

    18. One or two at most, for me. I think I took three to a friend's house once, but I think that was too much (once again, for me). I haven't been to a meet where I didn't know all the people already (usually me and my friends go to each others' houses or to a cafe or something), but if I were to I'd probably take resin-kids from my crew that people were wanting to see instead of just who I felt like taking, depending on where it was at and such.

    19. Last meet up I went to I took 3 dolls, an Obitsu, an AOD and my Soom Sard. As much as I loved showing him off to people, I think my Sard will stay home from now on. That was way too much resin to worry about (not to mention, he has a huge pair of Eproductsales wings O_o). I think from now on, I'll either take just one Super Gem size doll or 2-3 60cm (or smaller) dolls. I think I'll stick with the more durable and less expensive dolls as well, just to be safe. I figure I can always bring pics of my other dolls to share (I did that at an anime con I went to out of state).

    20. Considering I only have one... One? xD
Although, even if I did get more (highly unlikely), I would still only bring one. xD
