1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How many dolls is too many dolls?

Feb 6, 2014

    1. I believe there is already a similar thread, but here it goes!:

I believe 6 will be my max. I probably will NEVER get 6 dolls, but if I get there, I'm staying there.
I didn't buy any last year due to the fact that I was just learning about the hobby (researching).
I bought 2 this year though. One in March and one last Wednesday. I'm hoping to get one for Christmas from my parents since the one I want is way below my parent's budget c:

    2. I think too many would be when you can't pay your bills because you've spent all your money on dolls. So as long as you're not in major debt, drown yourself in dolls, or just buy the one if you so please!

    3. I got 4 last year. I set my limits with the sizes. 5 each size and I have every size available but I'm reaching my limit with SDs so the next doll will be a MSD or tiny.

    4. True! That would be the end of the line for me LOL

    5. I got 9 dolls last year, although 2 full dolls were from events and raffle prize. :o Now I have 15 dolls and I think it's already enough. I like to take photos and sew clothes, so 15 dolls with various size are perfect for this hobby but more than this I don't think I can pay much attention to them.

    6. I bought four dolls last year plus two floating heads and a body.

I think that too many dolls is when you're buying dolls instead of paying bills. After all your needs areml met, I think that extra money can be used for whatever you want. Too many dolls also just depends on the person. I think for me I want at least ten SD and larger sized dolls.

    7. True enough - but I have them to play with - I dress them and pose tham and take them places with me {pauses to look at the one that came into work today and is sitting on my desk beside my computer as I type} so it's one of my criteria.

      Teddy

    8. I do this as well and actually would've brought one in today but I need to run errands after work and lugging an SD around in +30C... not gonna happen.

Currently I own 31 dolls of all sizes and will soon be purchasing #32. When I started in this hobby, I thought I'd never have the means to get to double digits. Things change and here I sit approaching 3 dozen dolls. I used to think anything more than a dozen was too many. Then I had a dozen and it wasn't and 2 dozen became the new wow so many dolls number. Hit that mark and bumped up my idea of what's too many. I think now I can say with some surety that I have too many dolls if I can't remember all their names and what sculpts they are. Since my memory is fairly good, I think that number will be pretty high.

    9. I love BJDs, for me We cannot have too much doll !
To have 5 dolls wants to say nothing : if you have 5 yo-sd It is very different to have 5 SD ! The only problem it is the place which they take ^^

    10. to me
too many is when u need some time to think of what u have and not just reflectively be able to name all ur dolls out right away

becoz that means u ar really not piutting enough attention on those that take u sometime to call out its name...

    11. I have 33 dolls and waiting for 2 more. And have a couple more planned.

It does sound like a lot but when you come into my room it really does not look like it's that many!

    12. IMO, you have too many dolls when you are too poor to pay the bills.

    13. You have too many if you don't have time for them (and that bothers you), space or money for them (meaning, don't have money to pay your bills).
It's hard to say I will close my collection since there are som many dolls being released every month. While my wishlist is small now (only three dolls), it can always appear a new doll that I will fall in love with.

    14. When your featured in an episode of Hoarders.

    15. This is a really hard question.. I personally think it depends for everyone, for me the number is ever wavering. For me I think 20 is a lot, I don't own 20; if and when I do I hope it's far from now.

    16. This question haunted me in the beginning cause I'm new in the hobby and I always thought that one would be enough. Alas as soon as I got one, I already bought another. And still want 2 more for characters I plan on shelling.

I guess I'm gonna apply KonMari method for dolls just like everything else in my life. I'm gonna surround myself with things that spark joy and not gonna regret it. But I need to set limit cause well, mostly because space and money problem. I still need to pay bills and fund other expensive hobbies lol

For now I think 5 would be my max number: 1 MSD I already own, 1 yo-SD in the waiting, 2 SD for characters I want in the future, and 1 reserve for "holy grail". I don't have that-one-doll-I-must-have yet atm and I dunno if I ever have, but I'll reserve 1 spot just in case ;>

    17. @neko.yuki I thought the exact same thing in the beginning X'D I'm also fairly new to the hobby, have one 19cm girl, a 68cm boy waiting to ship out, and three more dolls in my wishlist sob.

It really is a matter of personal preference, it seems. For me, I'd probably say 10 would be my absolute limit - frankly just thinking about that many dolls feels overwhelming... then again, I'm still new to the hobby and only have one with me right now lol

    18. @cosmicish seems like we're in the same state at the moment XD I would love to own more dolls but really, I own. too. much. stuff. :sweat But since I failed to keep my limit to just own 1 doll before, to be honest I don't trust myself enough so it's safe to just say "never say never" lol

    19. I don't like to give myself limits on things, so I think as long as I have space and I can afford it no number is too many ^^
Oh and also that I'm still enjoying them and don't feel overwhelmed :sweat

    20. I would fill my entire house with beautiful dolls, if I could afford it :aheartbea:aheartbea
