How many dolls is too many dolls?

I have three full dolls, one I just ordered, two floating heads, and a body for one of the heads that was shipped today. So I'm within days of having four dolls LOL. There is no limit in my mind. But soon I'll need to invest in a different storage method, I have too many to sit on my dresser now.

 

I have 2 off topic, 1 on topic head and another on topic doll that I'm planning to order first thing next month.
So 3 and a floating head, tentatively.

I hesitate to say 3 (on topic) overall that I'd get as a maximum because while that's what I reasonably see myself using, the character I'm trying to shell comes from a story where she's the guildmaster...with 12 other members (had to go and count, I tend to lose track) that I want to turn into dolls.

That's 13 from one of my stories and there's plenty of my other characters I'd love to turn into dolls.
...Good thing I'm going for a high paying degree I suppose. I'm gonna need if I do decide I want to go that route. But for now I definitely want to say I plan to stick to 3.

...and now I just doomed myself because whenever I say "I'll just stick to x" I never do. Just ask my alarm clock how many times I say I'll stop hitting snooze after the Xth time.

 

Whenever someone has asked me that question, I've always said "Too many!"
That was my answer even back in the early days, when the only dolls in my crew were Harumatsu and Tien Jen.

These days, my collection is a bit more extensive than just the Shiwoo twins, but I honestly don't keep a count. I never have. If you're really curious, the gang are all listed on my profile page, though. They've grown into quite the small tribe over the years.

As for how many more may eventually show up? I'm about out of room in my display cabinets and I refuse to let them expand beyond that boundary, so there won't be many more. The inn is almost full and once I light that proverbial "No Vacancy" sign, that'll be the end of my acquisitions... I have to make the last few spaces count.

 

After five full years in the hobby I'm at 19 dolls and 15 heads, as well as waiting on 4 dolls and a head... There's room for precisely 6 more dolls in my family and another 6-7 bodies for the floaters to share among themselves and I'm quite unwilling to budge from that limit. So the total headcount will be 45 when we're done here although several will always share bodies with each other and I think that's quite fine to preserve space while having all my important characters here~

That being said, I've never thought I'd have so many when I first started the hobby although I went in with the mindset of not limiting myself if I could. I love being creative and being surrounded by the shells of all those characters that otherwise only live in my head and writings ...

 

I've been in the hobby for 6 years now , and at the moment I have the most dolls I've ever owned at one time , and it's 13 and a head . Though I am changing my collection up a bit moving on to more realistic and large dolls , so I put the floating head and an msd up for sale , so it will be 12 when they are gone for a while. Also thinking of putting my Bobobie isabella up on the mp since I don't do anything with her anymore and that would make 11 .
I think that with the space I have now and will probably have once I move my limit will be around 25 for space limitations. When I entered the hobby I dreamt of having 50 dolls at some point , and still do , but only if by some miracle I'll have the space and funds necessary for that kind of thing .

 

Here's the most recent photo but it's changed a bit. I'm reshelling one and I gained another girl since I took the picture. And that doesn't include the ones on order. As for how many? I don't really know. I think I'd like to stay under 30- just for space reasons.

 

I only have 1 BJD, but I eventually plan on getting quite a few (9 to be exact) but we will see how money and space are in the future. Right now I can really only have 2 max.

 

i have 1 doll coming to me in 2-3 months. i want to have 5 dolls as my limit but my maximum would have to be 10 dolls. i don't want any more than 10 doll just because bjds are very pricey plus, i feel like if i had so many doll i wouldn't be able to give all of my dolls the attention they deserve.

 

I have three dolls now and I'm planning for a fourth to complete a set of characters, I'm waiting for a luts SDF head who'll be the companion of another doll. So for the moment I have six planned. I don't plan to have many of them, and I feel better if I have a character for them (but actually I fell in love with the Romance Carmine head and I'm creating a character for him to pair with the other SD I had planned XD). I suppose I'll see how it goes? I don't have endless space and I like to spoil them a lot XD

I tell myself I don't want a lot of dolls but I end up wanting to order more.
When I get close to 10 dolls it will be time to stop, hopefully.

I'm pretty content with my group right now. I'll probably get at least two more dolls before I say my collection is perfect for the time being. I doubt I could handle more than twenty dolls.

Now I have 3 dolls, my initial collection has 10 dolls listed but I would be very happy with only one more doll.
I don't think I could give home to more than 10 mainly because I have no space and I know I wouldn't be able to play with each one of them.

 

I think ten is the most I could give adequate attention to. Right now I have 4 (plus one I'm trying to sell) with three more coming, and there's no sculpt I'm dying for at the moment.

 

My family (collection) keeps growing! I'm sure I replied earlier in this thread, but I've added more since! Apparently there is no end to dolls! I periodically sell off some, but not very many, not like I used to. At this point more are coming in than going out.

 

The mods merged two different threads, so I suspect a fair few of us have ended up with more than one reply in the resulting "frankenthread".

 

It depends on people. For some there is no such thing as "too many" and for others "too many" could be 5 or 10.


As for me, I have a limit per size, more than that would be "too many" for me.

No more than 5 SDs, 5 MSDs. I love tinies so my limit for them is 10.

Right now I have 3 full SDs, waiting for 1, and one head I want to get a body for. That would set my limit so no more SDs for me.

I have only 2 MSDs, that means I can get 3 more lol I have 1 in mind actually (probably next year)

I have 3 27cm dolls, 1 35cm doll, Soom faery (fashion size) and 2 pukis. I don't count the pukis because they're very small and I don't want more but I can see myself with 2+ 27cm dolls, 2+ 35cm and 1 faery more.

That means that more than 20 would too many for me^^

 

There is never too many dolls. I have around 500-600 dolls right now, mostly monster high and ever after high, and now a few bjd. It's up to you. Some people can't handle so many dolls.
