How many people think of their Minis as adults instead of children?

May 30, 2013

    1. I have two MSD dolls that shell two characters of mine. Meadowsweet is a Cloan ny moyrn or Adhene (Manx fairy) so she is pretty much ageless while Elspeth is a 17 year old. To me it depends on the character if they embody one or how they are presented in dress and attitude.

    2. It really depends on the sculpt, I think some MSD could fit into 16-20 easily, anything over that and you have to really start using your imagination.

    3. I have SDs/SIDs/EIDs/Idealians & Super Gems as adults (over 20).
My MSDs range from Dana Jackson (who is an Angel Region Dana) who is 10 to Kenny (a Volks Kanata - 55 cm) who is 15 & the same age as my Souldoll Kanguk (62 cm).
I don't get the mature minis (ChicLine/Idealian 52) because they look adult. HOWEVER - everyone take a minute to think about 12 year old girls. I remember MY youngest at that age - VERY full figure but still 4'9" - so I have NO problem w/having a busty little MSD doll as a middle schooler.
AND adults range WILDLY in height. I myself am only 5'2". I work w/one guy who's over 7' tall and a 35 year old woman who's all of 4'11" (she makes me feel tall :D)
So my dolls vary all over the place as well. My DZ Mo (who is actually a tad smaller than Dana) has a much more mature face - he really looks like the 8th grade punk boy). He's supposed to be best buds w/the Kanata & only a year younger - & those dolls mirror my grandson & his best bud at that same age - the best bud was sooooo short for the longest time!

    4. All my MSD / mini dolls are avatars of my characters. They are older teens and adults, ranging in age from 16 to 25. None of mine look like children (which is great because I don't prefer child-like minis).

    5. My MSD's character is about 17.

    6. Definitely adult.

Well... Pete is a MNF, so he's got more adult proportions, albeit in a heavily stylized way.

Vince is just sort of ageless, and I sometimes dress him like a little kid (right now, for instance, he's got denim short pants and an Avengers tee shirt on), but it isn't because he is one, it's because he's a doll and his main purpose in life is being cute. But he's under that 'not human character' banner, so the fact that he looks potentially childlike doesn't matter to me. When he's not childlike, he's often elfin.

Moz-the-floating-head has been done up to look elf-y, but he may end up as his character's child self, if/when I get a big honking giant man Maurice.

... Even my LTF is an adult, though I *frequently* dress him as young as he looks (because it is adorable, and also a lot easier than putting him in a suit).

    7. my minis are 10-13. I have a 64cm boy who's supposed to be 17 (my other SD guys are 19-22 and my 70cm boy is 25) so I think it'd look pretty weird if my minis were any older, even though my DoC girl has a "mature" body. I don't think she looks older than 13.

    8. My MSD is in her 20s, and so are my SDs. This question made me ponder if it's "weird" or "odd" to think of my MSD as being the same size as my SDs as I never really thought anything of it before. My MSD is the slightly younger sister to one of my SDs and I just thought her sculpt worked so well so I adopted a MSD, not really thinking about the size but just loving the face so much that any size that had this sculpt would be wonderful. :)

    9. I don't but my friend has a mini that's about 17 or 18. She had her dressed up as a saloon girl for a themed meet up and people kept looking at her weird because her mini was posed up with her SD boy and she was kind of annoyed about it. I say, let your characters be whatever age you want them to be because, at the end of the day, it's your doll and your character.

    10. I only have minis because it's the size I felt most comfortable with, but they're meant to be young adults (19-22ish). While I would have personally preferred to have their ages set a bit higher, I felt it would have been too much of a stretch based on how they look. But I also want to note that my Dollmore kid (girl) has what is considered an immature body, but it looks mature enough to me. I just imagine she's flat-chested. :sweat

    11. My minis are an odd group. Some of them are actually children, some are other creatures that look like children but really really aren't, two are elves and just small people (they are mature minis who exist with my SD scaled dolls), and then another group are my "mini" versions of my SD dolls (mature minis who exist in a mini-world separate from my SD scaled dolls). The Mini minis are very much adults, the elves are adults, the angels are adults and the other two who are...things, are adults. The only child I guess I have is my Pado, who is 10.

All of my creatures-who-look-like-children-but-aren't, are really supposed to look like human children. Well, maybe not Boo or Rose, who don't really look human...or childlike...

    12. I think of mine as young adults. I didn't get that size because I wanted then to be childlike, I just like the smaller size. Having the more youthful faces makes them more anime-like and cutesy and I like that, too.

    13. I agree with what most of us are saying, that it depends on the sculpt.
Personally, I see MSDs from being anywhere from mid-teens to adults, but this is probably due to the fact that my close dollie friends and I all have either AoD with their very mature sculpts or Iplehouse JIDs.

    14. The slim minis are adults. The MSDs are a child-looking Mire and a more adult-faced Margaret SWD, who has an older face despite the prepubescent body. I have no idea which age the Margaret/Rock headmold is supposed to have.

    15. The reason why I will probably never buy SD-dolls is that my mini dolls would look like midgets with them ..even tho they're supposed to be adult characters x'D

..so yes, I think of my minis as adults :)

    16. All of my dolls so far are slim minis and are meant to be youngish adults - 17 - 22.

    17. My Minis have adult looking AoD bodies, but child/teen looking Elfdoll heads. I kinda like the combination, and think of them as teenagers/young adults with slight babyfaces.
It depends, I suppose. If the dolls look like they could be adults, there's nothing stopping them. There's Tiny sized adult dolls too, and plenty of them, so why not?

    18. All my minis are slim minis and they are all adult. I have MiniFees, DollZone 1/4, an AOD, a Soulkid, a Lati Blue and a Narae.

One of my MiniFees even have four children - even though one of them is adopted. (Two LittleFees and two PukiFees)

I find it a little difficult with the guys though. They tend to have younger looking faces IMO than the girls. Perhaps that's the reason I have 14 women and only 3 men. LOL

When I started in this hobby I decided that SDs were too big for me but I still wanted adults. The kids - mostly LittleFees and PukiFees - came later

    19. It is really hard to find boy minis that look like adults. Have you seen Fantasy Doll's boys? I think they have mature expressions and can pass for adults.

    20. I've been looking at the Souldoll Vito line as well for mature male minis. They're a little taller than your average MSD (50 cm) but with oh-so-mature facial and body sculpts!
