How many people think of their Minis as adults instead of children?

May 30, 2013

    1. All of my MSDs are mature, so I think of them being around 17-19 or so while my SDs are 22-25. Then my YoSDs are the children characters. xD But it does depend on the character and what story I'm working on.

    2. My first 2 dolls were a DOC Hoo and Petsha - I don't think they really looked mature, but I thought of them as adults until I got my first 1/3 scale girl. Then they were suddenly teenagers in comparison to my bigger doll.

    3. I love the Vito line! Especially Edmund,I think he has a mature look. He looks wicked.

    4. My 42cm Resin Soul Mei is an adult. She's got too many adult proportions to be a teenager.

    5. I have all sorts of minis to be perfectly honest. Some are children, some are teenagers and some are adults. It depends on the body, the facemold and the actual character (considering some fantasy creatures don't quite age past a certain point in our story).

    6. My minis are older teen to young adults. I plan to have all my minis in that age range unless the character is meant to be a tall preteen or something. I don't have an SDs at the moment and when I do get them I don't plan for my minis to hang out with them.

    7. My MSDs are the adults and yosds are kids and my tinys are toddlers. MSDs are almost too big for me. I like the YoSd and tinys better. I don't want to cuddle mine I want to take pictures and dress them up.

    8. My two MSDs are both 18/19 - so adults, but very young adults. My 70cm is only six years older than them character wise. I have a village of adult 1/6 off-topics and one off topic Hujoo that's about 14/15 so I really don't care about scale.

    9. Both my MSD boys are adults in their 20s. I thought about SDs but they're just a little too big for me to handle if I take them out and about. YOSD is my child size and tinier is younger. I have one puki who is supposed to be about 3 and I have two 35cm dolls who are also adult characters XD I aim to find sculpts that fit and then make them look their age through clothing and faceups.

    10. Depends on the sculpt, body and character. The one I have now is in the late teens, but I've seen others which I would see as being more childlike or as an adult.

    11. That's pretty much how I view my minis too. I have all MNFs (that wasn't planned, I swear). I would have preferred them to be older, mid-twenties to late-twenties, but their sculpts are a little too youthful for that, so I compromised with an early to mid-twenties. The youngest has the sculpt with the most mature features but the smallest bust possible. All of them, however, are much younger than my pukipuki.

In general, it depends on the sculpt on what age range it can represent, and often falls to how mature the body is, but that really has little to do with an owner's imagination and the infinite amount of characters that can be created. Also, stylization of the sculpting can factor in. It works a lot like manga stylization, like how one artist's character can look younger compared to another artist's character but they can be the same believable age within the context of their own story.

    12. Most minis seem more like teens to me. :3 My MSDs have always been 14-17, but I have seen sculpts that could be passed as older. Possibly young adults! XD

    13. I've always imagined my (human) mature mini sized dolls (Minifee Luka and Rosette Delilah) to be about 17/18 or so, since they've both got more grown up style bodies. My Mikhaila and Kid Delf Mango are both a little younger, about the equivalent to 15, but my Mikhaila is a robot and Mango is part of a separate story-world with other similar stylised dolls.
My Aileen Doll Brandan threw me for loop for a while, since he's a more like the 'traditional' mini (chubby and childlike), but he's so much bigger than my Minifee boy (and larger & taller would generally = older) and he has such a cute baby-face, there's no way I could imagine him being older than my Luka! So I rationalised the difference by sticking him in with my fantasy dolls and thinking he must be part giant, which works because most of my 'fantasy' dolls are tinies! XD

My Rou is a msd. To me he clearly does not look like a child.

Though some of my other mini's are children.

    15. For me, my MSD's are young adults to adult, purely because I have little interest in owning an SD (too big for me and too expensive generally) and so there are no giants to tower over my 'mini' adults! The Yo-Sd's and tiny I own are children, and the puki puki... goodness knows XD But for me, with my three MSD's, they are adults. Nello is in his late teens, Moriarty is an adult (being based off BBC Sherlock's Jim Moriarty), and Haku is... well, immortal, being a dragon, but I digress

    16. I find it hard to see typical minis/MSDs as adults/teenagers, because most of them look clearly pre-pubescent, have babyfat and lack of curves on females (and this is coming from an adult woman who is shaped like an ironing board so I do not mean 'must look curvaceous to be an adult' but simply little girls and women look distinctly different) My MSD's range from 6 to 9 years old :) Minifees/Unoa/mature mini are a different kettle of fish though. One of my girls is a Kid Delf on a Minifee body so her age is difficult to place, she has a more stylised/caricature look I suppose, but for me she's meant to be about 12.

    17. My MSD is 14 so she's neither an adult nor a child. I think that my moms Minifee and Limwha look older because of the way their bodies are sculpted so I would think of them as young adults.

    18. all my minis are considered adults. they govern over the 1/6 scale dolls who are their children.

    19. I have few Minis mostly because I'm not that into children-dolls. Most of the minis I do have are more mature sculpts, so while some still seem young, because of the size, they aren't just children... Some are fantasy sculpts, so that always messes with ages, since maybe an elf or fairy could be hundreds or thousands of years old and still look small and young...

I have mostly large dolls, so the minis, though mature, still don't seem to be totally adults, even if they are ageless immortal beings! I don't have the more mature sculpts, like the busty girls, really, so that affects things, too.

So I don't automatically think of the minis as either children OR adults! It rather depends... On who and what they are and what they are in relation to the other dolls...

    20. Mostly I think my minis are adults because more child-like sculpts don't appeal so much. However, I honestly also don't care about whether my collection fits together in 'scale' so it doesn't bother me to have 'adult' minis and 'adult' SDs and 'adult' tinies. Although, I change the age of my sleeping Pukipuki according to what she's doing... sometimes she's a 'baby' for my bigger dolls and sometimes she's my full grown fairy having a nap.
