How many people think of their Minis as adults instead of children?

May 30, 2013

    1. I only have MSDs (well, a complete doll and a floating head with another doll on layaway), but they're all 15-25ish. You can get a good range of sculpts for those ages, and now that there's a good variance in MSD height (40-46cm, now), they can believable be different ages.
Though my friend has a YoSD who's supposed to be 15 or 16, but he looks like a child because his growth was stunted.

    2. I do! My MSDs are in their 20s. But it depends on the sculpts. Volks and Luts MSDs aren't that mature, but others like Minifee and 5StarDoll and Dollzone and DC (and more) aren't childish.

    3. That's how some of mine are too! x3 got to love characters that appear otherwise than what they are, plus one can do so many "different" and creative things with dolls they hadn't expected they could otherwse!

    4. My undeveloped mini is supposed to be in her late 20s, but she's on a genderless body. XD; I've never had trouble seeing her the appropriate age, though--I think most of my MSD-sized dolls are adults, or close to it. Kiki and Papaya might still be teenagers. I think Jerica's in her 20s somewhere. I have the opposite problem with my boy's sculpt, actually--the Minifee El looks too old for the character. He doesn't look like a teen at all. Oracle and Rimen could go in either direction, and they're kind of supposed to be ageless.

    5. my mini has a very mature body, which is fine but i want her to have an equally mature partner, which i have difficulty finding one i like fer her that is her size. although i act as though i am going to buy someone for her tomorrow, which i am not. even so, there is a big mix between ages with minis i have noticed. she is also really petite, too... none of her MSD shoes fit without stuffing. and alterations.

    6. Two of mine are teenagers and the other two are adults. It does depend on the sculpt. How I perceive their maturity. Like the OP, I'm also really short and I like to have at least some of my dolls reflect that. I'm a little self-conscious about my height and having a short doll helps. It is unfortunate that most companies seem to think of them as children though, if only because it's hard to find "mature" clothing for them. Not impossible, but still.

    7. I've got a yosd, that I just think of as a "chibi" version of my character.
And all my dolls as just shells for my characters to live in, so, for me, the sculpt dosen't have to look the characters age. :)

    8. my msds more look like eith college kids or high school kids just because the size of the head and eyes.

    9. I don't have any minis, but if I did, they would definitely be adults or around 18 or 19 years old (almost adults). I have three characters that I've thought about turning into MSD dolls, and they were all young adults. I don't I'd make a mini that was older than 25 though. I'm not even sure if you can find an MSD that would have features for that.

    10. My mini's are in there late teens. They are Resinsoul dolls as they were one of the only mini's I could find that looked like teens and I liked how they looked.

    11. Shoot, I have tinies who are adults, or at least close to it. Both of my Dear Pets are 20 cm, and are 16 and 17. :3

    12. I tend to like to think 45 cm dolls as adults depending on how they are used. I just think the bigger dolls as more detailed versions but they don't have the same charm. I have a dolls family planned and 2 are 45 cm and im using s 26 cm for the kid. It really depends on the doll and the owner and how they are shown off.

Plus I first saw my first BJD which was a 45 cm so that factors in where a person first starts in their collection.

    13. I don't believe in the sculpt of the doll automatically determining it's age. It should just be that a doll "speaks" to you about what age it is, based on the personality, or just the owner's choosing.

    14. I only have one slim MSD and I only plan on having one, though I did used to have two... The characters were originally supposed to be 13 and 16, but they were both Unoa hybrids and they looked so incredibly out of scale with my SDs that I reshelled the 13 year old into an SD and decided to age her character to be 17, and the other one, the one I still have, I changed the character completely. Now, she's a young adult, and she's very childlike at times, but I still view her as more of an adult than a child because she isn't... playful like a child, I guess. She's sort of an angel thing I dunno but she's very quiet and spacey and peaceful. She has that kind of innocence that most kids have at some point, but with a serenity that most kids do not ever have.

But, in general, I like to think of MSDs as children if they interact with SDs, which is why I had the 13 year old as an MSD in the first place, even though the size and age difference turned out to be too much.

    15. I have a hard time thinking of my MSDs as children because they have adult but scalded down bodies. Where I run into a problem is trying to find Parents for my teenagers the MSDs. Most are way out of scale or if I find a 50-55cm doll, I don't like the sculpt mold or skin tone is wrong and so on. Someday!

    16. For mine I consider them young adults (mid to late 20s). Right now, I have no plans for dolls who are children.

    17. Well I have two minifee girls, their chests are just to large to be children, also the shape of their bodies is more on the mature side. I really never gave any thought to my dolls ages, to me they are timeless beauties, never aging and always prefect. If i had to put an age to them then I think my girls are between the ages of 17 to 21.

    18. Since doll sculpts have limitations for ageing without modification or reshelling, my characters' ages are all pretty independent of their sculpt' age appearance. A quirk in the storyline accounts for this. That said, except for a single 1/6 kitty girl, I'm styling all mine to appear mature. Since I have 3 smaller 1/3, and vary everyone's heel height, the steps up from 42-63 aren't very jarring but I tend to group them anyway even though everyone so far has a character appearance in my main doll story line, even if just a cameo. I had some less mature looking minis and personally just didn't take to the look.

    19. My SDs are in their 20s to 30s.
MSDs are young adults to me,around that teenage age, ranging from about 16 to 19.
      Yos are little kids.
Anything smaller is a toddler or baby.

    20. I think it's quite possible to have a mini/tiny as an adult. My Puki Pukisha is supposed to be a grown up goddess living in a small mortal body so technically she's an adult even if I dress her in not-quite-adult clothes.
