Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. how many unfinished dolls at one time?

Jul 22, 2015

    1. due to a number of factors: some overwhelming personal stuff going on this year that seemed to sap all my time and creative energy, a number of dolls i had wanted for ages becoming suddenly available, limited editions from favorite companies that i couldn't resist, and older dolls needing to be redone, i was looking at my list of dolls i owned requiring faceups and realized that i had over 20 dolls that need faceups! (some not started, some were at least partly done) :aeyepop:

so i was curious. has anyone else ever ended up with a number of unfinished dolls? and if so what is the most you have had incomplete at one time?

    2. I am fairly new to the hobby so I have one at the spa and one on her way to me :D I currently have one pair of shorts and a sweater on the way. So yea... they are pretty unfinished right now haha :D Hoping to get more clothes !!

    3. It drives me crazy to have unfinished dolls, so I usually try to complete them within a week of getting them home, or I end up selling them. The only exception is the head collection, where I've downsized the crew but keep a couple of heads I loved but don't feel the need to fully shell, or am saving for future use as my younger character 'grow' into the new form.

I think the most I've been actively trying to finish at one time has been maybe three.

    4. I consider all of my dolls incomplete because I take my time working with each one. I hope that one day, I can say that one of them is finished.

As long as I have something left such as an extra outfit or a second pair of eyes they need, the doll will never feel complete to me.

    5. Oh, I definitely have plenty of unfinished dolls around! I've got limited opportunities for faceups (spring, fall, and sometimes winter are okay, but right now the humidity's just too consistently high... plus I have classes and full-time work most of the time, and keep house solo... there's plenty to do before I can start squeezing in faceups), and as several of the "unfinished" are limiteds, it's more pressing to grab them when they're available than to grab them when I have time to "finish" them. There's also other factors, like finding the right wig and eyes, getting the right clothes, and so on, but based on just faceups alone:

Currently I have 31 in the house.
Eleven are fully blank (one wiped just yesterday). Four are going to be wiped and refreshed or completely changed. Two are in pieces for some aesthetic work, but the rest are just waiting their turn.

In fairness, I do faceups and blushing together (and a few of the "not blank" dolls just have temporary faceups until I can do their full look), which adds a significant time investment to each doll, and there's often other aesthetic work that has to be done first (mods for a couple, dye jobs for a couple more).

Having them blank honestly doesn't bother me much. I do feel satisfied when I get one pulled together, but I don't hate them or anything before that point. I'm patient about pulling them together, and can wait until the weather turns again so I can work on them again. :)

    6. I have a few who either need a first face-up or really need to have an existing one replaced, but I'm terrible about deciding who I want to send them to.

    7. The most dolls I've owned at the same time were 5 and all 5 were incomplete!
      currently I have 3 dolls, and my oldest (who is almost 1 year old) has her eyes, hair and HALF a faceup. The two others need faceups and eyes, and one of 'em need a wig. It's only 3 dolls, but it feels so overwhelming since I'm on a time limite for faceups (only paint during the weekends of summer)! X_x;;

    8. It drives me crazy to have unfinished dolls. This is mostly because my brain will see this as a creative problem that must subconsciously be worked on until it's resolved. (It's just the way my brain seems to work, so a part of me is always thinking about it, and that can be exhausting!) So within a week, I'll settle down and pull out the supplies to make it happen. That's why I always go to great lengths to have eyes, a wig, a name and some sort of character worked out prior to their arrival. Even if I decide to change them down the road, they have to start off at least somewhat completed right out of the gate or I'll have no peace.

    9. All my dolls are in varying states of (in)completion. (Mostly more incomplete than complete.)

    10. Technically, I have two... and they are the only two I own XD

Anton is waiting on a faceup. My Abadon needs a new faceup AND a fricken body. I'm thinking after Miss Kitty is all paid for, I'm going to start the saving for the body. Hopefully neither financial problems, or my indecisiveness will get in the wway this time.

    11. I have over 15 dolls and all of them are incomplete to some degree honestly... I wish I had been better in the past about finishing a doll and then moving onto the next one. >__<;;

    12. I only have one doll and I'm a newbie, but she's basically done. I'm OCD about everything dolly related, so if I had a bald or eyeless or naked (happened with me for a little while, my doll arrived before her clothes! >_<) lying around, I'd be really crazy. I'm starting to plan my next doll, and I'm going to make it a point to order her stuff way early so she actually has some stuff to come home to :XD:

    13. I tend to be quick about the face-ups, at least. Currently I have one doll without a face-up, but only because the weather has been really humid ever since her arrival. They usually get their eyes and wigs quickly too; I need them to look like the characters they represent. Blank doll faces do bug me - dolls lacking their definitive clothes don't.

Out of all my dolls, a little less than half don't have their definitive clothes (inluding shoes, jewellery and stuff). Since I make all of their things myself, and I am slow, it takes a while. Plus, I don't get to work on doll clothes until I feel inspired and have a clear idea of what I am going to do. I know my characters very well, but I tend to be hazy on the details of their costume. As such, I don't finish my dolls in the order in which they arrived. I work on them one by one, depending on which doll inspires me first. It also happens that I am technically incapable of carrying out a design - I am a self-taught seamstress and a horrible amateur :p. My second doll had to wait until after I'd made outfits for several others, simply because I couldn't figure out how to make a pattern that would neatly accomodate her fairly voluminous bosom :p.

The worst thing is that as I make progress with the costumes, my skills improve and I want to make new outfits for dolls that are already clothed. It looks like I will never be done! Then again, I say 'the worst thing', but it also means I am not going to run out of doll fun any time soon...

    14. Oh god yes, just a second ago I was discussing this with a friend:

Friend: "oh my god I have 4 dolls. I'm used to having only one doll at once and what if they're all finished?!!!"
Me: "it's weird - you have 4 dolls and feel overwhelmed and I have... let's count... 2 pukifee, 1 realfee, 1 littlefee, 2 minifee, 1 maskcat tiny, 1 narae, 2 sd's aka 10 dolls and some floating heads and I feel... saturated, and slightly overwhelmed, but I still feel there's space for more dolls! And NONE of my dolls are finished, except maybe the Maskcat tiny and the Pukifees, but those will need revamping sometimes..."

So basically I have 7 unfinished dolls O_O 9 if you count the Pukifees. But as I mentioned in some other threads it's now time for me to stop acting on all these buy-buy-buy impulses and start working on my dolls.

My other friend is like me and also has the same need to start several projects at once and keep them hanging - I always advice her to first finish the project that is nearest to completion so she has this feeling of satisfaction when she actually accomplished something. It's great advice that I should start giving to myself >_>.

    15. I currently have 5 that need face-ups and/or blushing. Only two of them are 'on display' dolls, though -- of the other three, one is a fantasy creature that will remain boxed until I finish its habitat, and two are future characters in the storyline of three of my dolls that will get done when my story gets to them. The two sitting around faceless will be done asap, though.

    16. I think the current number is the most I have ever had unfinished:

One awaiting a faceplate (due in September)

One body with two potential heads neither of which I'm sure about. Neither painted yet.

Two older dolls with part-done faceups (for the last several months, now I think about it).

One head away for faceup (done but not back with me until I finish the clothing commission in exchange)

A badly faded full doll away for repainting as part of the same deal

One head with a potential several year wait for a body (although I'm looking into modding a temporary body in the meantime)

      Yeek! That's 8 of them!!!

      Teddy

EDITED TO ADD: There are also two awaiting their proper outfits. Both outfits are started but nowhere near finished.

    17. I feel like someone always needs work-whether it be a new faceup, hand blushing, or other aesthetics. Currently I have one unpainted doll that I'm in the process of modding. He needs to be sanded and airbrushed and then he can finally have his faceup. I've got another doll that's waiting for some tattoo work. But it's been so humid I haven't been able to do anything with that yet. He certainly doesn't look incomplete without them but I know he 'needs' them.

I usually don't leave dolls without faceups for long- unless I'm waiting for pieces that need to be blushed to match or something.

    18. I have 6 dolls... all of them have the right eyes, finished faceups, and several changes of clothing each (except for my lone guy doll, who still only has one outfit... sorry, dude) and I have a shoe hoard large enough that all of them have multiple shoe options. However.... only 3 of them have wigs. The other 3 are waiting, patient and bald, for me to finish making wigs for them. So I guess I have 3 unfinished dolls. Really need to get those done.... working on them is pretty much all I do when I have spare time to mess with my dolls, but it is such a time consuming project!

    19. I just got all of my current dolls clothed and one just needs a face-up .. it took a while.
I'm getting another blank doll who will need all of that all over again and I don't even have a character in mind for her. *_*

    20. All of my current dolls need at least one thing done to them (face-up, wig, eyes, clothes, blushing) but surprisingly they all have at least one thing done. So right now I'm at four.
