1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

1. I care about the face more. Obviously the body is important to the point that I'm not all that interested if the body sculpt won't fit in with my other dolls... Or if it's ugly. Haha. But like Shantel above me said the body is much easier to replace.

2. I'll look at the face first to determine whether or not I want the doll. Then if the body is too childish or young/thin/not mature looking (or if the muscles seem kinda weirdly done or something) I'll think about just getting the head and popping it on a different body that does suit my tastes.

3. Interesting question. I pay attention to the face and the ears mostly, as i'm an elf ear addict. The parts I only really pay attention to on the body is the breasts (if it's a girl, I don't want 15 dolls with huge bewbs), the arm and leg joints, and the abs.

4. When I just started out in the hobby, I paid attention almost exclusively to the face sculpt. Though, to be fair, back in 2003 there wasn't nearly as much of a variety in BJDs as there is now, so one can only be picky about bodies to an extent, especially since only a few companies sold to the US market. I bought my first BJD - Custom House Choa - pretty much based on her face sculpt alone. And, while I still love her, I am certainly not in love with her body and would not purchase another doll on that body again.

Now, while face sculpt is what first catches my attention with new dolls, the body is always the deal-breaker. If I don't like the body, I don't get the doll. There are many sculpts that I adore, but will never own due to dissatisfaction with the body (I am not into hybriding my dolls). I am particularly picky about knees - if the knee caps do not blend in with the rest of the leg smoothly, I will never own that body. On the flip side, I will also not buy a doll just for its body. For example, I really like the Dream of Doll DoT new girl body, but I do not like any of the head sculpts; so, until DoD releases a head that I like, I'll be admiring that body from afar.

5. First and foremost, I look at the face sculpt. If a company has nothing I like, I don't want to get a head from that company. Ideally, I like getting the full doll, so if the body doesn't look good, then I used to not consider the head either.

But now that I'm more BJD "savvy", I understand that I don't have to get a full doll. I can buy a head, and put it on a more appealing body.

When it comes to the body, I'm willing to overlook a few things such as muscle tone/definition. I don't want a super-realistic body. I'm not a big fan of bodies that go above and beyond (sort of like those with veins in the arms). I'd like a body to have torso pieces that look like they belong together, and don't draw attention to the fact that they're each a separate piece. I notice that this is an issue with a lot of 3 piece torso joints.

What I AM a big stickler for - and it surprised me that this actually bothered me - is how the wrists and ankles look when meeting the hands/feet. My BBB Apollo's body (also BBB) I can tell is going to pose pretty well. His stringing is horribly loose, so he can't pose at all right now (need to prop him up so he can stand, too) but I have absolutely no issue with his joints except for where his wrists and ankles meet his hands and feet.

It isn't as... streamline as I would like it to be, and if I could, I probably would do some sort of modding to get things to look more together. On my DM Kid Flocke, her hands come with a little piece that comes between the hand and the forearm, resulting in her arms and hands looking like they were meant to be together.

With my Apollo... well, it kind of gives off a look like he's constantly wearing a coat, or something. It looks like his 'real' arm is inside of the thick resin that is his actual arm. For his feet, it sort of looks like he's wearing some strange pair of thick resin pants. When I was considering BBB or RS as a first doll a long time ago, a big thing that turned me off was how the ankles and wrists looked. I was leaning more towards the RS side of things, because those dolls didn't have that same look.

Truth be told, though, his wrists and ankles don't look as bad as I had pictured, but they still hold that same look to some degree. His hands and feet still pose well, too.

6. Perhaps the body is important too, but a face is always more important. The eyes, the brow, a tiny smirk from a pair of bow snapped lips, that the emotion of the character which the doll inhabits. A body for me is a piece of the art that I enjoy trying from different companies. I am not the kind of person ho seeks off things that they don't like because it's hard for me not to like something. Sure, there are likes and dislikes of any doll except perhaps for a dream doll, but those things just add to who that doll is to me rather than annoying me enough that I feel like it's a throw away part of the doll. I'm just kind of sentimental like that though, and maybe it's not practical, but anyone who knows me, also knows that I make no apologies for the things I believe in.

7. I like a doll with a nice face and a nice body. I don't mind if it's the default body as long as it look good. I really prefer not to do hybrid unless I have to because I really hate worrying about resin matching >.<

8. I care both. I hate bodies that cannot sit well and badly sculpted fingers. Right now many companies are making heads only and I found it very difficult to find a nice body._.
Not to mention colour matching as well, it's just annoying ‘~’

9. I was just about to make a topic like this! I care about the face a little bit more, but I won't settle for a body I don't like. But buying head and body from separate companies seems complicated. I'm afraid to do it, but the next doll on my wishlist has a really unattractive body! I keep thinking, well I'll just cover it up with nice clothes. But still I don't know if I will buy the body. Is it worth it to spend more money on another body that I will just cover u with clothing?

10. When I just got into the hobby, I used to think along similar lines - why be picky about the body, if it's going to be clothed most of the time? However, that didn't really work out this way for me - there are various types of clothing out there, some more revealing, some less. Right now, for example, most of my dolls are dressed in summer clothes and, thus, I can see quite a lot of the body sculpt. That, and, there are so many different body sculpts out there now that you really can have it all - a beautiful face and a beautiful body.

11. It's the face ....always the face ....I would never buy a doll for the body...but I would buy one for the face...if I hated the body there are hundreds out there to choose from...so face all the way

12. at the moment, I am in a way, similar to Anna.
when I browsed, I see the face first, if any catches me, then I check the body, if it's no good, then I won't buy. But some companies' body sculpt is not too bad (although not making me jumping up and down either), in this case I'll be keeping them in mind.
Because I'm new, I am not thrilled with hybrid-ing, maybe if I get more knowledagble I would.

I too like the new body of DoT, but in my case, I'm after msd first, maybe next time I'll get one of DoT ^^

13. I tend to care about the face more- at least with more anime-like dolls. But with more realistic dolls like Iplehouse for example I am more specific about the body (big bust, mobility tights) because they wear lingerie a lot ^-^

14. The face scuplt factors much more into my decision, but some bodies I just fall in love with, regardless if I have a head for it or not. Like the volks SD17 body, the hands and feet are so insanely detailed.

15. I care about both equally, which sometimes causes problems, when I like the head but not the body and reversed.
I end up making a lot of hybrids...

16. i care about the face more, after all its the face that pulls you in, well it does for me anyway.

17. If I don't like the body, then the doll won't be coming home with me, unfortunately! Ive had all kinds of dolls, and the ones that always leave, save for Hyperon, are the ones with the most annoying/disproportionate bodies. Yes. Bodies definitely matter!

18. Though I do not have a Bjd, yet... I tend to look for good looking bodies, as well as heads. ^_^ They are both important to me!

19. If I see a body I absolutely love, then I will try to obtain it. However, face is also very important to me, so if the company does not have a head sculpt I like, I will make a hybrid.

On the other hand, if I see a face I absolutely love, then I will buy the doll regardless of how much I like the body (unless the body is exceptionally ugly.)

20. For me, the body is almost as equally important as the face, since it's the biggest part of the doll.
I look for lots of detail in doll bodies, like outie belly buttons, ribcages, hip bones, shoulder blades, etc. (I also look for great posing!)
I'm really picky ;___;
