    1. face number 1 body is what's cheapest i go for. and so do my friends cause we have small pockets.

    2. The face sculpt is more important to me because they're usually the first thing to catch my attention. Body sculpt comes next of course because posing and nude bodies have become my next favourite thing. ^_^ That said, even though I heard CP dolls had bad posing, I still went for one because of the head sculpt, which shows that the face is clearly more important to me. Also, despite the stories, I find the body aesthetically very pleasing to me.

Though CP's body sculpt is supposed to be bad for posing, it's been so much insane fun for me to deal with that and learning how to handle the body well. In a sense, I feel even flaws with the body sculpt can be overcome and since I don't do modifications, I can't really change a face sculpt to suit my needs.

    3. My dolls aren't preset characters when they arrive, instead its the start of something beautiful... So I'd say we're the same:)

      Sera~

    4. I care how both look... but I can always solve the problem of a less than appealing body with a swap. I've got quite a few hybrids now.

    5. I care about both, which is why i hybrid most of my dolls, the face may be from one company but the body shape i want is most likely from another so i just get both ^^;;

    6. The head is much more important for me. I've never really seen a BJD body I strongly disliked. The only problem I had with a body once was that it didn't have the chest the character needed, but that was easily fixed with Apoxie Sculpt :)

    7. XD Same views and same name... aren't we a pair!?

I saw a four sisters faceup you did for digital_grrl79 today at the doll meet I went to! She was just GORGEOUS! Reminds me of how I need to get in gear and get Chiharu her new faceup.

    8. I care about the faces more, because if I don't like the body, I buy a different one. Although if there was a doll that I loved the face of but hated the body of, and for some reason couldn't get a different one, I'd just give up on the idea of that doll.

    9. Both are very important to me. I do generally get dolls to be characters of mine, so it's important to me that they fit that character - I have a FCS Link instead of a normal one because he needed to be white skin and he needed to have long legs. The family save for Alis is all Volks, and of the Volks ones all but one are Mikey-designed dolls with similar sculpts - They need to look alike, and after Isao was perfect for the first member to arrive, Ephram, it just seemed natural. So face is important.

But so is body. If I sufficiently dislike a body, that can be enough to make me sell a doll eventually, as I find myself not playing with it. Size is also a factor. If a doll is too small it's off-putting unless it's a tiny like little Alis. Too big is also off-putting as the doll becomes difficult to take around with you.

How the body looks and poses is vital, as well. Some bodies look more like bodies, and some look like a stack of cylindrical forms. I like a body with a more realistic look to it. Interestingly, some of the dolls here have body types that suit their personality well besides working size-wise - Uptight, formal Lukas's SD13 boy body matches that with the locking joints and how it sits ramrod straight with the legs together, while laid back, casual Ephram's CP boy body with it's looseness and slight lean while sitting fits him well, as well as being a bit smaller like Ephram needs.

But even a body I like the looks of is blah if I don't like the posing. Bad posing is a killer. The more joints the better, but if that's not possible I like one that at least can move well with what it has - The elbows and wrists of the SoulDoll 60cm boy body come to mind. His wrist and elbow mobility is superb.

Hands are also very important. The one thing that bugs me badly with Ephram is how small CP hands are. It's very disproportionate. I like big strong well-sculpted hands with delicate, seperated fingers - My Arashi's hands are the best MSD hands I've ever seen, like scaled down SD13 boy hands. Thin delicate fingers instead of the chubby kid look. I love them.

But yes, the doll as a whole package is very important to me, and I will hybrid if need be - My favourite doll is one, heh.

    10. Body mold much much more to me.
I fell in love with the IpleHouse boy body for many reasons. It was the only boy body had everything I was looking for. :)
The head was important too, but the body was all important to me. :)

    11. Heads and bodies are switchable! I Loved the Dollstown Ariel head (own one now) but I'm not fond of the waist joint or hands of the body (I hear that it poses wonderfully though!) so I bought the head and she is now on a Volks SD13 girl body.

I care about both and I don't add/omit dolls based on their body sculpt- its the heads that I put on my wishlist, the bodies come later! ;)

    12. The head mold is what attracts me to a doll first but if I find the body repulsive (like a Souldoll boy) then I'll search for a skin colour match in a different company's body. If I can't find a match I won't buy the doll. After all, I'm spending stupid amounts of money on these boys so I have to want and love the whole thing otherwise there's no point.

    13. Oh, definitely you need to have both. If you have the perfect face sitting on a body that just doesn't cut it...Kinda is distracting, ya know? Luckily for me, the I love the elfdoll boys faces AND most of their body (except I would like more defined...legs. They're just kinda there. LOL). <3

To each their own, I guess. Though it does seem like most people need to have both face and body correct. Interesting topic. :)

    14. well I will be buying my dolls for pre existing characters and I'm trying to find a 'happy' medium between body (build/height) and face

I picked a DZ boy for Nathanial for example because its chunkier than a hound body, and not as broad or tall as Bishonen House. Nathanial is too lazy and greedy to be skinny or muscular  but the head sculpt still had to have his 'personality' (he is giving me dirty looks as I type :sweat )

I'm just thankful that aparently DollMore are having two body sculpts :) (being awkward I don't want any 'reapeats' either if I can help it, my BH brothers excluded though since they are related)

    15. I care about the body muuch, but I fell in love with a head - Hound - and I will still get the doll, despite the things I've heard about his not-so-perfect posability....so I think I can say that I care about the head a bit more...

    16. It's mostly about the face for me. I can't really mod anything, I'm too inexperienced, so that's not an option and there are a very limited number of dolls I really really really like enough to pay so much for them, so the body comes second, it's important and I'm not at all happy if the body is not what I idealized but if the face is perfect that's the most important factor...

    17. I think when I first started learning about bjds I focused on the face alone, the body was secondary and of little consequence.

Now that I have some experience and a little knowledge, my attitude has changed. I now appreciate the different body sculpts. Their ability to pose is of greater importance--almost equal to the beauty of the body. I look at hands now, and legs. When I was a noob, it didn't matter--it was all about the face.

That is part of the joy of this hobby-passion. One learns and one changes!

    18. For me it's mostly about the face, but I need to be at least okay with the body. My Petit Ai has the cutest face, but I hate that she can sit very well. Consequently, she spends most of her time in the box.

    19. I'm into different types of bodies. My biggest beef with doll companies that sell a range of heads is that they're slapping all the heads onto the same body. I realize this is necessary due to economies of scale, and to allow one line of clothing to fit different dolls, etc., but because my main interest in getting the dolls is seeing and getting different sculpts, rather than buying a lot of outfits, I get very bored with the same ol' bodies even if they're nice.

I'm very thrilled with the variation in bodies that's starting to creep in especially for the large guy dolls. It looks more like real people to me, and allows for a greater range of characters. I'm also not above modding a bod to make something a little different.

I love going on the Artists' forum here and seeing lots of different body shapes being made, including fat ones and uberskinny ones, bodies that generally aren't "perfect" or "fashion model" bodies. I understand a lot of these body types would not be practical for the mass BJD market, but I've never been a mass market type. Poseability is not as much of a concern for me, probably because I don't take a ton of doll pictures either and if I had to do that I'd just wire the doll or use a concealed doll stand.

    20. I am mostly concerned with a very expressive face, but I want a body that can aide that expression too.
