How much do you spend on one outfit?

Aug 14, 2011

    1. Depends on who the maker is. I will gladly pay $100+ for a limited Volks outfit. Most recently I bought a lion pjs from Volks that set me back $55-60.

For me clothes make or break a doll's look so I wanted pieces and outfits that work even if I have to save for a little while to get what I want. Although every so often I will find a deal. I've gotten a beautiful Luts outfit and a funky AnotherSpace look for a fraction of their price. But those deals a few and far between.

    2. I completely agree. For the limited Brand outfits, this is a reasonable price to me (though I would prefer closer to the $150-$200 mark). With the shoes, hair pieces, clothes, accessories, and layers of clothing that comes with these sets, I think that it makes sense to spend more. Of course, I am also of the school of if I want it for my doll and have the money, I get it.

    3. I'm new to BJDs, but I've had a lot of friends who were collectors and hobbyists, and from what I've seen $70 for a six-piece set is a fair price, especially with free shipping.

    4. I have this thing about spending more on a dolls outfit than I would on my own clothes. Not going to happen. I make all my own dolls outfits. I do sell them too but try to keep the price down so they are affordable for most people. There are some outfits that I would love to have but I'm pretty cheap so I won't be buying them.

    5. That sounds about average for a complete doll outfit. I regularly spend $70 on a single pair of doll jeans and happily because they actually look good and fit perfectly, as opposed to looking bulky like I have seen cheaper jeans look. The most I've paid for an outfit was around $400.

This is an expensive hobby. The things in it are all produced in low numbers generally by hand by artisans. Prices will always remain high. You get used to it or learn to live with what you can afford.

    6. wow, $500 on a single outfit? Yikes. Even $70 seems steep to me, but if it's high quality hand made I think that is justifiable.

    7. $47 is the most I spent on one outfit, it was Cass' uniform and I bought it along with him from Dollmore. I don't think I'll be buying anymore either since it'd be cheaper (and more fun) for me to simply make my own uniforms for my dolls. I certainly wouldn't spend more than that on one outfit set regardless of the make. I love sewing, and I take it as a challenge to create decent pieces that mirror the quality that I'd otherwise pay for. Even in terms of fabric, I've probably spent about the same as a nice dollheart fer set. And for all that fabric, I'll have hundreds of outfits- I know this is an expensive hobby, but I don't personally believe I need to channel all the expense into one part of it- I buy nice wigs for example. 2 are from SWITCH, one's coming from Crobi who's my new favourite company for wigs. I also don't mind getting nice shoes. But handmade clothes will remain a cheaper alternative for me.

(For the price of some outfits I could get a new doll:o I'd rather do that too since I have a monster of a wish list... )

    8. $69 sounds very reasonable. The most expensive outfit I've bought is a Dollheart set, but I get a lot of Iplehouse and a few Volks stuff as well. It was all exactly what I wanted and I could afford it.

I'm impatient and a perfectionist, and I know that my skills with a needle don't meet my expectations. I also know that at this point in my life I lack the patience to muddle through and have a doll dressed like foot* while I try to make the vision in my head a reality. I could either spend $$ on an outfit that is what I want or I can spend that much in supplies and patience and end up with a blistering headache in my eyes, incredibly pissed off, overheated, stiff, and without an outfit at all. XP

Echo: It's an expensive hobby. If you like and want to buy outfits for your doll you can expect to pay at least what the same outfit human sized would be.

*seriously. Footy foot. My sewing attempts make the sock creations I made my Barbies when I was a kid look like gold.

    9. When deciding about buying (as opposed to sewing ) an outfit, I simply ask myself,
"Self, would you make that outfit for that price?" I f the answer is 'no', I buy.

    10. I spent $350 plus shipping for a BTSSB set. That is the most I've spent for one outfit....so far.

    11. For average, I spent more than 100+ for each of my outfit. I like fantasy and ancient outfits which cost a lot to make.
I wish I can sew and make my own outfit but I failed so many times. In the end I am willing to pay for outfits which fit my story. Especially I love outfit from Soom, Souldoll, Angell Studio, Volks and Dollheart.
      ^___^

    12. :Dthe outfit comes with 6pieces and it's a suit coat, tie, shirt, pants, belt ,and vest:fangirl:

    13. I don't mind spending hundreds on an outfit (full outfit or even just a single one-piece dress) if it's up to par quality-wise by my standards. Really, I feel like I've gotten spoiled to outfits I like at $100-$150 as 'cheap' because I've seen some things that are comparable to them for easily $400+. When I compare them side by side and realize I like the $100 one better I always feel like I am getting an amazing bargain. I consider myself lucky the outfits I've liked most so far are "only" in the $150-range and not the $400+ range. I'm sure someday there will be a $500 outfit I'll fall in love with and just have to have, so I really don't set any limits for myself. I'm the never say never type. ;)

    14. If the workmanship is good then this is a good price.

However, suits are tricky buys. If they do not fit your doll body will it will look funky. Make sure the item is listed to show that it will fit your doll. I would contact the buyer to make sure the buyer does know about your doll and knows your doll's measurements to confirm that the outfit can actually fit.

I have bought many suits in the past some are wonderful and when they work they are marvelous. But when they do not fit then it is not worth the money

    15. I have spent over $350 for an OOAK outfit for my Wiggs BJDs.

    16. Higher quality doll outfits are the most difficult to make, because doing smaller details takes alot of skill to make them look believable at that smaller scale. So alot of time, despite the cost of materials, it can cost the same if not more than human sized clothing. Granted, some outfits don't seem worth the cost to me (such as certain recent Soom outfits for smaller dolls that looks no more than bits of straps and beading strings) but each to their own, I say. It's, more or less, what's in demand at the time. I've tried to make some outfit pieces for dolls and let me say, that it takes some few tricks to get the seams to not look clumped up at the very least. And that's the main, thing I see now these days is how the seams and certain parts scale well.
Though for a good/decent set outfit for a tiny/yosd, I had spent about $70-80 dollars at least, and that was a decent price set on the market for the outfit I was looking for. Again, it's depending on what you're looking for and willing to pay.

    17. I spend lots on my dolls clothes. I have spent 100 dollars usa on a outfit. I am willing to spend even more if it is what i want and it has a lot of detail.

    18. I've bought dollheart, so the most expensive I've paid so far is $130. Considering dropping another $130 on one of the new steampunk outfits. *dies*

    19. I have expensive taste for my girl (Dollheart, Tatas Paradise, VOLKS LE outfits) and definitely flinch at the price of everything but I want her to dress better than I do so I gave in and spent $115 on her first outfit (which is an amazing deal considering that Dollheart no longer sells the outfit and that price includes priority shipping) and hope to never spend over that on any of her clothes in the future
it's a lot of money and a lot of thought was put into it before I actually decided to buy it (and she probably won't be getting any more clothes until Valentine's day) but I think it's worth it considering the quality of clothes she's getting
anything over $200 though is definitly out of the question
