How much do you spend on one outfit?

Aug 14, 2011

    1. $250 and now i hate it...lol, that was a volks outfit

i just put down a heap on two volks DD bunnygirl costumes, black and white

    2. I think that it really depends on the doll size! For my littlefee/Pukifee... I'd say anything over $30 is getting pricy, I sew for my own dolls--So I haven't had any experience buying clothing for them... Yet... :)

    3. it seems to me that if you are spending $500 to a $1000 on a doll, why would you put a cheap bad quality outfit on said expensive doll.

    4. It depends on the outfit and how much you love it as to whether the price is reasonable or not. ;) I mean, they are doll clothes and no one NEEDS them (except maybe your theoretically nekkidy dolly!). Sure, for a 6 piece outfit I'd say that's a very good, normal price.

I've paid over $250.00 for outfits before- however that is more of a collectable thing and not the norm and I had to buy internationally to get what I was looking for. It was complicated. For me, the magical thing about this hobby is that it can take a bend on which ever way you want it to go- casual, collectable, etc. It's all really wonderful to see what people create!

      Good luck shopping!

    5. I like detailed outfits. I go as high as 200$ for them

    6. I've never spent more than 25 dollars on anything I would wear myself.
That being said, as much as I love my dollies, I do not plan on spending anything over $25 for an outfit.
I can find many pretty things for that price second hand, and it doesn't affect me at all.
Besides, sewing is a skill that can be easily picked up, and with enough time, can be done. I plan on making any outfits that are too expensive to purchase otherwise after school is finished. :)
Although sometimes, I feel it is okay to just fling money into something extravagant, who doesn't? :D

    7. Depends on the outfit~ there are a couple ones I'm currently eyeing that cost around $100-130, so... as long as it's a good, nicely detailed outfit with enough pieces (and/or options) to justify the price I'm completely fine with it.

    8. It depends on the outfit; quality of the material used, design, is it factory made or home made (custom by a tailor) or what comes with it.

My most expensive outfit (factory made) is from Volks, it's on of the sets I got with Haruka Amami (but it came with dress + boots)

    9. I make the majority of the clothes for my dolls, and am in general really cheap. The most I've spent on a dull outfit was around $10. Anything over that and I don't think I'd be able to justify it, even though I know the time and effort that goes into making an outfit.

    10. An outfit is worth it if you really want the outfit and can only get it at that price --and you can afford it!

Doll clothes are not easy to design, find fabric and trim and in-scale fastenings for, and to sew. If you try to make something very elaborate yourself, you will understand that it will take you a lot of money just to buy the fabric and supplies, AND it will take you a lot of time (which counts as money, even if you don't pay yourself!).

$69 is not bad for a well-made, pretty detailed outfit with many pieces.

It used to be a very average price for a whole outfit (clothes only--not wigs, shoes, props).

VERY elaborate outfits with several pieces are easily around $100, or more.

Special designer outfits, ooak or from small makers, are around $150 to $250... or up.

Lower costs in China and other countries have made some nice outfits available for less than that, and more simple clothes (t-shirts, dresses), at good prices.

I am used to spending $69 for a nice outfit... I would be happy at that price, actually.

Lately I have been spending around $250 (WAY too much) for some ooak outfits from makers I really admire... I try not to do that often, though! For many years I had a limit that outfits must be under $200... but I have recently broken that rule... so now I'm going a little insane... *_*

      ----
for myself, I buy fashionable stuff, but always around $25 or less, if I can... but human clothes are mass-produced, so that keeps the cost down... if I were buying a hand-made, individually designed ball-gown--it would easily cost me thousands of dollars... WAY more than a similar dress for my doll!

    11. I spend more money on doll clothing (per item, and in general) than I spend on actual human clothes.

    12. This has been a great discussion 'cause I debate this with myself all the time...should I, will I, blah blah blah. So thanks; it kind of frees me a bit. Next time I see something I love that I label "expensive" I'll think of this convo.

    13. My dolls only get one outfit each. Because it has to be perfect for the character, I'm willing to spend some money. And since I usually commission someone and want a quality piece, it isn't uncommon for me to pay $150-200 for it. But, if an outfit is very expensive, I'll expect elaborate pieces with lots of detail.

The way I see it is that if I'm willing to spend hundreds, if not thousands to get that one doll that appeals to me, I'd better dress it up properly. *laughs* I guess that explains why my collection hasn't grown lately.

    14. One outfit that my girls wear fairly often consists of "Hug Me" tee from nubanded ($5) and pleated skirt from blythism ($9) and black mary janes from Mimiwoo ($10). So $24 for one outfit. Most of the other outfits are pretty comparable, or are less expensive. Sometimes they wear the $5 tee and some pants from nubanded ($5) or shorts ($4) instead of a skirt. Sometimes they just wear a dress from catwalkangel ($5) and the shoes. I don't feel like I spend a lot on doll clothes compared to other people in the hobby who have larger dolls and more intricate outfits, but my mom still frowns upon me buying more clothes for my dolls than I buy for myself! :sweat

    15. I usually buy one piece clothes with max of $50 only if theyre irresistible >< and full outfits max 100$ i could never go beyond that cause my source of money is quite limited :(

    16. I think it also depends on the size of a doll, I probably wouldn't spend the same amount for a YOSD outfit as I will for an SD outfit.

Dollheart, for instance, has some high prices that can give you quite the sticker shock but you have to take into account what you get in that bundled outfit. I just plopped down around $100 for one, which is probably the most I've ever spent on one outfit. *_* However, there were lots of pieces in there that I can mix and match. :)

However, there's another thing you have to keep in mind. You can plop down $25 for some jeans, $15 for a shirt, another $25 for a hoodie, $30 for a pair of boots, $10 for an accessory-- that all adds up fast! $105! And don't forget to add in the shipping cost of all those things!

What I've started doing is to mentally separate the outfit into pieces and price it out. Often times it's not really as bad as it seems.

    17. Well I want some doll heart clothes soon... one outfit(boy msd) is like $100 and a lati yellow size outfit is $50 so I'll probably end up spending close to 200 bucks on the outfits I want. It all depends on quality, number of pieces, and doll size, the bigger your doll more material is needed. I guess it doesnt seem bad when i look and see my much more expensive clothing.

    18. I usually pay not more than $30 for outfit but if that outfit contains many pieces and I absolutely love it, I willing to pay $70-150.

    19. hmm I don't know, it really depends on the clothes, but here's the my list on the price range of my choice:/

      shits - 10~20
      pants - 10~20
      dress -50~100
      shoes - 20~80
      sets -80~150
      accessorise -1~30

    20. everything is so detailed and handmade thats why its so expansive. I sew my dolls clothes so I tend not to spend a lot.
